By checking the "only contacts" box in the edit options area for Visitor Messages, people not on my friend/contact list will be unable to see my visitor messages, correct?

Thanks.

Do you mean the one with this:

"This forum features a visitor messaging system that allows members to send messages to one another publicly."

Hi Linus- yes, this is the one.

Not sure if I understand it completely. Thinking it could help with combating stalking behavior in a "quiet" way by
blocking access to visitor messages and who we interact with.

By checking the box- would that stop someone that I don't have on my "friend/contact" list from seeing my visitor messages and who posts the

Thanks!

Medusa 05-11-2011 03:43 PM

It should be to only receive messages from friends and contacts, I don't think it blocks anyone else from actually seeing them.

Thank you. I did have it wrong!

Why is that conscious living/green living thread (or whatever it is) set to Private?

I don't "log in" when on the site at work, so I have noticed this.

It's not the thread but the forum the thread is in. Let me talk with Medusa and find out why we did that for that forum (I cannot for the life of me remember why)

I suspect it's because June was pushing buttons in the backend ;)

I think it's ok for that forum to be public!

Sorry, that is what I meant.

Yeah, that was kind of why I mentioned it. I figured it was in error and maybe you didn't want it private.

I think it's ok for that forum to be public!

I always knew you were a backend button pusher. :nyahnyah:

Nina 05-26-2011 07:20 PM

is there a way to view who is in the chat room?...when I click on the chat room and the drop down window comes up, or down, and I click on the 'who's chatting' all I get is an error message...

thoughts, suggestions?

thanks in advance

N

Linus 05-26-2011 07:31 PM

Nina: I suspect you were doing it from the front page. That's a known issue (the developer never did help us with it and we're still trying to figure out why).

Next time, try from in the forum area itself (that is, click Forums and then go to the Whois in Chat drop down). Should work.

Nina 05-26-2011 07:42 PM

thanks...I did it...it may have worked...I got a weird kind of harp-like sound...it scared me...many things do :)

take good care...

cheers...

or automotive questions??? Maybe a DIY questions/advice thread?

I was wondering yesterday if anyone here had used Sea Foam additive for engines/ crankcases yesterday. I was told it really does help clean up engines so I picked some up, but ( even after watching their little video) I am still unsure exactly how much to use.

I'm sure there are many folks here who have experience with DIY repairs/ maint. things and it would be awesome to have resources w/i our community.
I'm not afraid to try stuff at home, but sometimes do run into questions that might be helpful BEFORE I totoally screw something up... LOL!

Great idea Kobi!

I hear mixed reviews on it. Some swear by it, some think it is not the best thing for their engines. I personally don't use it.

I do not know how much to use, so I would suggest contacting Sea Foam, or seeking out a car forum for your make/model, and putting Sea Foam in the search engine of their forum. For sure there will either posts on it or someone will be able to answer your question there.

Good Luck.

DapperButch 06-10-2011 10:43 AM

Kobi/Jess,

Why not just start a thread for each of those items in the hobbies/interests section?

Hey, this is the sustainable Forum we made a while ago, see if that will work.

Let me know :)

Neither sustainable nor hobbies etc seem to fit what what I was looking to do.

I was looking for a space where those of us who are "useless with tools" can talk about dealing with contractors, compare options, think ahead to routine stuff that needs to be replaced before it becomes problematic.

Is there somewhere else this would fit that is not catching my eye?

You could always put it in the butch zone just to piss everyone off. :tease:

I concur sustainable living would not be a suitable place, but I see that is where they placed another "home improvement" type thread when they reconfigured the forum some time ago.

Gemmes rep points hasn't gone up in 5 days. She sent an email but never got a response so I'm sending a message for her. She has gotten reps but her points are stuck at 21 million some such or the other. I don't know if this is the thread for this though but I figure somebody would look at it.

Thanks
Ebon

Hey Ebon-

I totally failed to respond to her private message. My personal life is a little bit overwhelmed right now. Sorry about that!

I believe that Gemme has maxed out on rep points. There is a system limit but I'll check and see if it can be raised.

Thanks!

The girl has broken the machine!

eta: I had to edit the number I typed, apparently every now and then depending on how the user has received rep or from whom (an aggregate of an even or odd number formula) the last two numbers might differ 1 or 2 either way

Hahahahahahah!!!!
She is the rep queen! Because of her, I've had to go in twice now and raise the daily limit of rep allowances. Who knew that 300 wouldnt be enough!!!!

(perhaps at the Reunion we'll raffle off a manually-corrected reputation level of 999999999999 *snort* )

I'm good at breaking things!

:cheesy:

I was thinking that, since the rep system and I *do* have a history together, that it was being a meanie poo poo head when I was being, as always, a perfect angel.

Rep system: REPORTED!!!

Medusa -

What is the difference between the Inner Sanctum Sensitive Topics versus Emperor's New Clothes? Meaning, I don't understand what type of topic would be placed in one versus the other.

Thanks.

Admin 06-24-2011 06:21 PM

"Emperor's New Clothes" was all I could think of to name a forum for "threads that might contain more drama than I want looky-loo's to see or threads that I don't want showing up in search engines or threads that I realllllllly want someone to be logged in to be able to read"

It's pretty discretionary for me and we have moved a couple of those threads back and forth between the "regular forums" depending on recent moderations, tone of posts, etc.
