I took the dogs on a 2 mile hike. That’s about it. A lot of up and down. It was a great day to be out in the woods. But, then again, most days are.

I had a good workout this morning!

Warm up: elliptical
Stats: 66 cal, .59 mi, 7:00 min

Circuit training--focusing on the lower body and some abs--30 min.

Cool down: stretching on the mat, 10 min.

ooooOOOOooh, today I did a bunch of stuff (walking, shopping, walking, rearranging my house, etc).

I went out to Big Lot's and bought an new bedframe to go in the East bedroom and a new bedding set for my old mattress, that I turned into an bed for guests (my son's if they visit or my mother). My neighbor Bob lugged it all upstairs for me and he assembled the bedframe for me.

But I cleared out my youngest son's closet and boxed up all his union papers, resume's, anything of value, and organized his closet. Then I lugged the stuff down the stairs and three boys in the apt community saw me trying to lug it out to the dumpster and offered to help, so I let them help me. But it's scary for me to try to take anything down 3 flights of stairs, but I did it.

I also bought some new curtains for the east bedroom windows and curtains for the front patio door windows... and stretchy rods to hang them up. That took some time for me to do, and my arms ache, but the results are worth it. The curtains block out summer heat, yet they help the house stay warm in the winter, so I am excited I found them today and got them up by myself.

I also went out to St. John's to my favorite dress boutique (Salty Teacup).... and bought two really wonderful dressy dress-type tops. One for me (b & white polka dot jersey, short cap sleeves, wrap type dress) and the one I bought for my sil/bff is black with an low neck and an bow tie string type accessory at the low neckline. I had to park quite a ways from the dress shop, so I walked to and from and all around the small store.

By the time I got home, my neighbor lugged all my stuff upstairs, then I committed the rest of the day to organizing the east bedroom closet, and hung the curtains and vacuumed and dusted. I broke out in an extended sweat for nearly an hour, after working on my house projects for about 5 hours.

I've been told that if you break into an sweat and you keep working out or doing what ever it is that you're doing, for at least another hour, that you're burning up energy and calories and such. So I felt like I got a great work out in, today. :balloon:

Last week it felt like Karma was against me - I had a stomach virus for a couple days, I had a migraine over the weekend (again), so I only went to the gym one day last week.

I was determined to get back on track this week! So, despite a bad headache and dinner plans, I went to the gym before I allowed myself to go home tonight.

I walked on the treadmill for 37 minutes and reached a incline of 12. In case you're wondering 37 is my lucky number and 12 was random.

I watch "Chopped" again which apparently is on all night. (Not just around the dinner hour.)

Nov 4, 2018 NYC

Ok, so it's on. NYC Marathon is on Sunday Nov. 4, 2018.

So, 2:12:00 is qualifying time for a half-marathon
and 4:50:00 qualifying time for marathon.

Presently running 2hrs on my long runs = approx. 12mi
or a 10min mi. So, my pace time per min must come down
to qualify.

Stopped my walking with talkie friend, no walking now.
Blisters have made their visit, but are getting better.

Started hill workouts...slow, but steady on Sat 1mi
at what looked like 45 degree incline...felt like a 90 degree
incline...smiling. Yes, I have major leg strength training to
do.

To do: Qualify to race in 2019 NYC Marathon
by lottery or charity fund raising and time.

Train...train...hill workouts...interval workouts...
and strength training (not in love with this part as
it's done inside the gym, but must be done, period)
And long swims twice a month as this also strengthens
my body, and gives me time out in the element I most
love...the water.

And most important...feel and make friends with
my fear of failure, for I know that this is my way
of succeeding and accomplishing my goal.

Look forward and one day at a time put one foot
in front of the other and soon will see my nieces and
nephews' faces at the finish line...now that's a visual
that is more than motivating for me.

Also, this is a do-over...my attempt in 2010 was a disaster
that I felt profoundly. And, it may take me a bit to get
back up to "snuff" but I'm no quitter...So me and my
body are going for this, yes I'm nervous,
but am also excited! And grateful for another opportunity.

Wish me luck for this year of training.

keep on keepin' on friends, Greco

Good luck, Greco!

Kätzchen 09-28-2018 07:08 PM

Today I went out to my graduate school and dropped by my former graduate advisor's office, then went over to Career Services and talked to an colleague there. Then stopped by admissions/fin-aid and talked a bit with them too.

I walked for about three hours today, but I'm achy-breaky right now because my muscles feel the burn. Up, Down, all around, then Up and Down and all over campus. What an amazing afternoon of exercise I had today.

Everyone was thrilled to see me, after all this time, and it was great to see them too. I feel hopeful, that my latest roundtable with my former-advisor and Career Center exec will bring about the change I'm getting ready for, next spring.

:blueheels:

PS/ Best wishes and good luck Greco, I hope you have an amazing time at the marathon in NYC! *Huzzah!*

Oh, wow, no formal exercise for me since 9/17. Yesterday and today I took walks in the park. Yesterday was 45 minutes in Central park with my brother and his husband. Today was 1.5 hours in Riverside Park with me, myself, and I. Oh, and some geese.

I'm struggling now that school (aka my job) has started back up. This upcoming month is looking pretty hardcore. And I'm not sleeping well on the week nights. I've also been spending a lot of time doing more home cooking which reduces time for exercise. Maybe. My goal is to get my sleep under better control.

Adulting is daunting, but I am trying to work it out. Thanks, all, for the support.

Gemme 10-01-2018 05:53 AM

It had been a week since I worked out too but I figured today is the 1st of the month, the beginning of a new quarter and a Monday so it's the perfect time to get back to it.

I have a new plan. I'm going to work out every single day for at least half an hour through the end of the year. I have a poundage goal but also a comfort and emotional goal and I'm going to do my best to achieve it.

Elliptical stats: 280 cal, 2.76 mi, 35:00 min

cricket26 10-01-2018 06:22 AM

3.5 miles on the treadmill and some household chores

Greco 10-01-2018 03:27 PM

These qualifying times are for age my group 65 - 69yo.

Hill work going well, and challenging. Half-marathon
out here in 5months.

more later...keep on keepin' on friends, Greco

ps Good to "see" nycfem back

5k on the rowing machine and a whole lot of hustle bustle before that.

Gemme 10-02-2018 05:40 AM

Day 2!

Elliptical warm up stats: 67 cal, .55 mi, 7:00 min

30 minutes of circuit training

Cool down: stretching for about 10 minutes

Mopsie 10-03-2018 02:51 AM

After multiple migraines last week I got back to the gym this week. (And also got an increase in my migraine medicine thank goodness!)

Last night I did 37 minutes on the treadmill and watched Chopped as usual. :)

BTW - Greco: cheering you on! :cheerleader:

Gemme 10-03-2018 10:04 AM

I'm sick so a trip to the gym is not in my best interest, nor in the best interest of other gymgoers, so I'll be taking care of my 30 minutes here at the house. I might even break it up into 2 15 minute increments or 3 10 minute increments but it will happen. I'll let you know how it pans out.

Gemme 10-04-2018 06:44 PM

It was household chores last night. Today, I managed to make myself decent and run errands but am pretty wiped out now.

nycfem 10-08-2018 05:10 PM

Last intentional exercise was 9/30- last weekend. Still struggling with work. Today I followed Gemme's rule and got in "at least half an hour"- and that's what it was: 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I watched Tyler Perry's Medea goes to Jail (don't hate).

girl_dee 10-08-2018 08:11 PM

i power walked for the second half of my lunch hour, the weather is amazing and i feel great when i go back to work
