I had to stay away from the thread. I was taping the games and watching after. So, I did not want to know the scores or outcomes... it was hard to stay away.
I am super pumped to see the Cardinals and the Rangers in the WS. It is going to be tough for me to choose a team. I love the cardinals jerseys and I love me some texas ball. What is a dirt dog to do?? :sunglass: I was not cheering for the Brewers. I did not watch part of their series. And then I thought...wait I need to know more about the Cardinals before they get to the WS. So, I started to watch. Well let the slugging begin. Two teams with great hitters. Good pitching. Good BC. What more could a gal ask for?? Well.... a nice cool glass of wine and that would top it all off nicely for me!! Too bad I would have to starve that day to save points for the wine... (sad face here) |
Hm. No baseball or football tonight for the first time in weeks. Withdrawal setting in. This bites. |
Game 1 starts tomorrow, Kobi!

Is it tomorrow yet? |

It's tomorrow NOW. The high in St Louis for today is 43, with 25 to 35 mile an hour winds.....Brrr. On another note, Kobi....they are talking about it rather consistantly on the radio this morning, word has leaked that the Bo sox may have been drinking (?) hence the epic melt down. Just what Baseball needs, another black eye. I'll look for a like later. ----- MLB has asked the players union to BAN smokeless tobacco during the WS saying this sends a bad message. (also heard on the radio) I'll check in later. |
i/e the drinking Bo Sox

43 degrees for a high with 25-35 mile winds. Thats chilly and thats daytime highs. What the heck is the windchill going to be tonight? Not snowing yet is it? The Boston media has been dissecting the Red Sox team and season since the meltdown. Many unpleasant things have emerged, some have been verified, some denied. Seems there are a conglomerate of potential reasons why things went wacky. Likely will never know the entire truth, just bits and pieces of it. Bottom line, from what I have heard and seen, is there is/was a need for a change in leadership. And, players need to be held accountable for their unprofessional behaviors and attitudes. Hopefully some fresh faces, perspectives, and methods will mold the players back into a cohesive unit so they can maximize their potential next year. |
The World Series starts in a few min. I never got back to this thread.
Yes, It sounds like it's time for people to look into the mirror and accept responsibility. (i/e the red sox) We shall see what ownership does in the way of accountability. Of course it's being talked up here, because of the size of the payroll on that team and then that type of behavior goes on. I remember telling you how your designated hitter hit a cheap infield grounder and didn't even run it out, he walked off the field into the dug out and our fans BOOed him loudly. He was looking around like (what?) And when he came up again, they were cat calling Big Pappi. We may suck, but our manager makes us play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Even John Russell did. Mannequin and all....lol. But...when Lloyd McClendon was the manager, rumors circulated, he was a vodka drinker...and was often boozed up in the dug out, and thats why they fired him with something like 18 games left......so wrong is wrong. OK......I have my green smoothie ready to go in a beer mug! Party ON! May the best team win, no cheating. |
LET'S GO RANGERS!

YES, the Cards win the first game!! And it was a low score game- pitching was good. Both of these teams can rack up runs. Wonder what will happen today... |
chris carpenter did a good job against an amazing texas lineup.
and cj wilson did better than i thought he would lol. i really looked for carpenter to step up. both sides, relief pitching, did great. tonight, they may go back to a slug fest. i hope not. i love to see the pitcher work his/her stuff. big fast pitch softball fan. tony la russa is the man. you know mark mcqwire is the cardinals hitting coach. i have mixed emotions about mark. but i think he may be a pretty good coach. a player can certainly learn a lot from him. david freese says mcqwire is a big reason for his success. and surely mcqwire has something to do with lance berkmans resurgin'. if we look at the cardinals hitting stats for the season and thus far, ... something has change for the better. i guess mcqwire does deserve a second chance. i just wish he didn't need one. go cardinals! |
remember Pete Rose?
Mark McGwire, lied to a grand jury. He, and many others, tarnished baseball. Barry-roid-Bonds has yet to get his. I think NONE of them should have any association with the game. They broke the law. They should be treated like any other criminals.
I have no problem posting this about Mark. Hence my comment last night, NO CHEATING! |

We have that weather today. I can't imagone being a fan at a baseball game. (worldseries....I'd be there in a snow mobile suit) |
i agree, no cheating. we have to earn it, on our own, no help. no steroids.
that's why i say i have mixed emotions. i watched closely when he went for roger maris' record. how emotional he was with the maris' family. he did wrong. it's about more than just cheating. he did maris wrong. maybe he should be thrown out of baseball entirely. i know for sure he doesn't belong in the hall of fame. but i do believe in 2nd chances. even 3rd and 4th, sometimes. i love to collect. i bought the wheaties box with mcqwire on it, when he broke the record. i still have the box, but it doesn't mean anything anymore. i also have the cal ripken wheaties box, ... that one means something. |
well, the wheaties box does mean something. he cheated to get it.
that box has a "broken heart". |
Yup, LaRussa cleaned it up. Something about Oakland and dirty play and it just seems like no matter what, managers or coaches in Oakland end up being called dirty, I think. The Raiders have always had a bad rep. I have never liked any of the Oakland teams and I live on the East Bay side of SF! I'm glad LaRussa left and went to the Red Birds.
When he was here, however, he did a lot of work for sheltered and abused animals and also he was a big anti-date rape advocate. His daughter was a victim of date rape and LaRussa got right out there in the faces of male athletes about it. He also was involved in organizations dealing with date rape and the use of drugs by perpetrators to compromise young women. There was a very sensitive and moving mini-doc with LaRussa and his daughter that I felt demonstrated his understanding the dynamics of date rape and how it effects the self-esteem of teen girls. I miss him being here, but Oakland atheletic teams seem to tarnish a lot of reps with the dirty play stuff. Part of me thinks it the whole stereotype that Al Davis (may he RIP- recently died) perpetuated with the Oakland Raiders. Rather be rooting for Tony in St Louis! |
Cardinals are looking good. Was nice to finally get to see them play. Carpenter is one big boy isnt he? Looks like a linebacker on the mound. I'm hoping for some batting fireworks in a couple of these games. Both these teams can hit and I would love to see some hitting! |

Cardinals are looking good. Was nice to finally get to see them play. Carpenter is one big boy isnt he? Looks like a linebacker on the mound. I was totally in my element in the top of the first....the pitcher (Carpenter) making that e x t e n d e d reach slide sort of thing to get the out at first. Then Molina, the Cards catcher, making that awesome throw, to get the runner stealing second. That throw was a half step ahead of the slide! (Pitcher/Catcher) I'm hoping for some batting fireworks in a couple of these games. Both these teams can hit and I would love to see some hitting! We may have to wait until game three in Texas, hopefully it will be warmer....I'm hoping we see 7 games. They are evenly matched. /QUOTE] Again, I have no real favorite. I like both teams. |

The home run derby, in my mind, will never be the same....they were hitting 40, 41 h/r's at a time during the All Star event...between corked bats and Roids. Has anyone hit 20 since? Fortunately, people forget. I guess the weaties box is worth something....you can say this is a cheater. In professional sports, we expect them to be superstars based on honest to goodness talent. By working hard and refining the skills. Not by corking the bats and taking the needle. Oh, and if your name is Barry-roid-Bonds, your highly paid personal trainer, outside of baseball, rubbs some special creme on your wrist. No questions, no worries. |
Another close one. Was hoping the Cardinals would go up 2-0 but Texas had other plans LOL. Enough with the pitching duels. Wanna see some slugging! |
I'm so happy that the Texas Rangers won tonight to even up the series! This is definitely going to be a good duel to the end!
|
i only got to see the 9th inning. but what a 9th inning it was lol. shoot fire!
go cardinals! |
as a child, i heard my momma say so many times lol ...
"what's worse than doing wrong? to know it's wrong and still do it." i don't think the gambling on baseball is any more wrong than steroids. both do your team mates and the game, everybody ... an injustice. i also collected so many roger clemens cards. i wanted to look back one day and say, "oh! what a rocket he was!" "say it ain't so!" |
Quote:
Can it get any better than to break it open in the 9th?...Great game! also, that extends the series by at least one more game (rubs hands together) |
STELLAR STELLAR STELLAR PITCHING.
Molina and Napoli were amazing strong back catchers. I wonder how Molina's thumb is doing? It looked wrapped up last night. Their hands must just HURT when they hit the ball when it is that cold. As a praire, been through lots of winters, girl... hands are sensitive to vibration when cold. Ouch.... Some of the defensive plays and catches were just poetry in motion. What a fabo fabo fabo game!!! Can't wait for Saturday!! |

Yes, that was one of the best WS games ever played! I was thinking these teams and their big bats were going to take center stage, but, wow, the pitching has been something!! And oh yeah, defensive plays! Both teams are giving us quite a Series thus far!! Argh, yesterday's quakes out here brought back memories of the '89 WS between our Bay Area teams- the A's & Giants. The Loma Preita quake hit right at the start of a game in SF and the WS was delayed- and well, people died and were hurt. I thought, damn, please don't let the "big one" hit now!! I didn't want my TV knocked out. Well and also don't want people hurt. |

i remember the quake in 89, ... very big deal.
and to those that lost loved ones. (f) you know, the rangers have the #1 ballpark for home runs. kyle lohse on the mound for the cardinals. right-hander. he has 16 homeruns, 2 in the postseason, ... hit off him. 2 starts, 2 losses in post season. matt harrison for the rangers. left-hander. 13 homeruns for the season, 0 in post season, ... hit off him. 2 starts, 1 win in post season. era, w-l, so, whip, ... their records are pretty much even for the year. we will see how it goes. go cardinals! |
I am soooo ready for a game with the DH involved. Maybe, just maybe there will be a wee lil slug fest. I have never seen Lohse pitch but have seen Harrison throw a few gems at the Red Sox this year. Yellowband, the Sox saga continues in the media. Same stories, same players, same quotes, different writers.....can't believe they keep printing the same stuff over and over. Then again, I couldnt believe all the press Patriots QB Tom Brady got last year for growing his hair long. |

First, some Good news. Micheal Mchenry has been retained! I'm so happy. The pirates will not pick up Catchers Ryan Doumit or Chris Snyders options, Or Paul Malholm (Pitcher). Those three are worth 19 million next year. Suddenly our low payroll got alot lower. Makes me wonder if Micheal is going to get a million. We have a catcher in the minors, Jason Jaramillo, who is ready to come up. The only reason he didn't get the call when Ryan broke his ankle (and the sox gave us Micheal) was JJ had a fractured jaw. So we are set at catcher. That frees up alot of cash. I say keep moving. I can't help but remember how many games we won with HUNGRY minor league players, while our veterans were out with injuries. The tale of two teams. The sports people seem to think the warmer climate in Texas will bring on the hitting. I'm ready! |
Quote:
Something to be said for minor leaguers with something to prove and nothing to lose. They play because they enjoy playing. What more can you ask for? Any chance the Pirates want Lackey and Dice-K at rock bottom prices? Sox should have made the both of them go along with Epstein to the Cubs. |
Can't wait for the game today! Even if it is a gorgeous day here and I hate being inside when it is like this. Hummmm.... maybe tape it? I can listen to it while walking my dog later, too, but I like watching the WS games.
Yellowband- I think the Pirates are going to be very good next season, actually. They are coming back!! I'm not as hopeful concerning my Giants, actually. I feel like we may go through some re-building that will take a few seasons to get us back. But, we do have a young bullpen with guys that are proven. The offense is the problem.... |
Quote:
As for Derrek Lee, the last I heard, the Pirates would like to retain him. But Derrek hasn't said if he wants to play another year. Now that the Catching situation has worked itself out, the two corners have to be decieded and then wait and see if they keep Ronny Cedeno at SS. (he's only at 2 million) for some reason people hate on him (left over Jack Wilson lovers maybe???) I don't know why. Gee we are not even out of the WS yet and my mind is in spring training!! Yes, the year of the Pirates. We actually had sunshine! So, yes I am in complete understanding of watching the WS when it is on..... |
Slug Fest!!!!! |
GO CARDINALS |
Dumb ass kid. Throwing that ball on the field
|
Wow, Albert Pujols!
Love how the Rangers would pitch to him, but always walk Cabrera when they played the Tigers. Whatever. And I love how Pujols did not mock the pitcher when he hit a 100 mph fastball for a homer, like Nelson Cruz mocked Verlander when he hit a 100 mph pitch for a homer. Pujols is a class act. |
Quote:
WOW, "King Albert" in the books with the Babe & Mr October!! Plus he is a good guy- and talked about team effort. I sure do bet that Card fans want him back next year! |
