A Touch of Sugar

A documentary on diabetes.

Merck (NYSE: MRK), known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, announced today that its documentary film, A Touch of Sugar, will debut during the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday, April 25 as a part of the company's program America’s Diabetes Challenge: Get to Your Goals. Narrated by award-winning actress and documentary spokesperson Viola Davis, the film dives into the type 2 diabetes healthcare epidemic that affects people in every community across the country, including Davis’s own family.

“I’m one of the 84 million American adults living with prediabetes and I’m sharing my story for the first time in an effort to inspire others to take action against the type 2 diabetes epidemic,” said Davis, spokesperson for A Touch of Sugar. “My sisters are both struggling with type 2 diabetes and my aunt also died from complications of the disease. Growing up, we just said they had ‘the sugar,’ which didn’t sound that concerning. But, when you look at the facts, there’s nothing harmless about diabetes – it’s a chronic disease that needs to be taken seriously if we’re going to get it under control.”

Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am - Official Trailer

From Youtube

Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am offers an artful and intimate meditation on the life and works of the acclaimed novelist. From her childhood in the steel town of Lorain, Ohio to ‘70s-era book tours with Muhammad Ali, from the front lines with Angela Davis to her own riverfront writing room, Toni Morrison leads an assembly of her peers, critics and colleagues on an exploration of race, America, history and the human condition as seen through the prism of her own literature. Inspired to write because no one took a “little black girl” seriously, Morrison reflects on her lifelong deconstruction of the master narrative. Woven together with a rich collection of art, history, literature and personality, the film includes discussions about her many critically acclaimed works, including novels “The Bluest Eye,” “Sula” and “Song of Solomon,” her role as an editor of iconic African-American literature and her time teaching at Princeton University.

Directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.

In select theaters June 21st.

My personal take is Toni ain't easy to read. She doesn't write to heal people, she writes to reveal the truth. Looking forward to seeing this documentary if it comes to my town or when it's available in digital format.

This looks good! I did not even know who Elizabeth Moss was, even though I had heard the name, until I saw the handmaidens tale which is amazing. I love, love Tiffany Haddish and of course Melissa is super good in everything.

Ooo and “Peppermint” which has been out for a minute, was way better than I expected. I never really cared for Jennifer’s cheese ass acting but she was surprisingly good in this.
