The new Woody Allen movie, To Rome With Love.

It was amusing enough, I guess. Very stylized.

An Oprah documentary following the lives of 5 couples of various ethnicities, orientations, ages. Very sweet.

Very good movie, I heard alot about this one....

Mrs Arcstriker 08-02-2012 08:19 PM

We just got back from a couple's resort in the Poconos where we ordered "Sherlock Holmes a Game of Shadows"...which was outstanding...

Oh, and then we purchased the 24 hour unlimited porn package (On Friday AND Saturday  ) which also had its own cinematic value...

(Not sure if that applies to my cinephile cred but we did have one heck of a weekend...)

gotoseagrl 08-02-2012 08:56 PM

Dark Shadows in the theater. it's a pretty movie, always is with Tim Burton, and i did giggle sometimes ... but, i wish there would be another one made more like the original series (which i love so much & am a huge fan of) - without the cheesy retro comedyness.

A Fighting Chance

This movie can be watched on Hulu for free.
Kyle is a huge inspiration to me. Despite prejudices, hatred, etc., he fought every step of the way for what he wanted to achieve in life.

Description A Fighting Chance is a vivid, character-driven story unlike any before it. The documentary follows the inspiring story of Kyle Maynard, born with only three major joints: a neck and two shoulders. Not only has he learned to live life independently and without prosthetics, Kyle is now the author of the New York Times bestseller No Excuses and has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live and Good Morning America. With plans of fighting in an official Mixed Martial Arts match – a highly controversial and dangerous goal - the film brings us to ask the question: what is a disability and should there be regulations against MMA fighting when such high risk is involved? The film ends with the climactic fight that will change Kyle's life forever.

Winter Passing

I was surprised to see Ed Harris in this type of role. Overall the movie tried too hard to be quirky despite the depth of the subject matter. 3.5 M budget, but only grossed 101K; that should say something.

Best quote in the movie: "I just can't believe this is the same man who told his six-year-old daughter that Christmas was a Republican capitalistic conspiracy created by the Hallmark Corporation and that, if Jesus were alive today he'd be down in Nicaragua rallying the Sandinistas. Grace Away." -Reese Holden

Got a couple of movies from Redbox the other night. We watched...

Mirror, Mirror (with Julia Roberts)
and
Wanderlust (with Jennifer Anniston)

Mirror, Mirror was kinda cutesy, and Wanderlust was alright. Both of them were good movies to watch if you didn't want anything too deep :)

diamondrose 08-07-2012 02:35 PM

The last movie i saw was "magic mike" with my partner. I admit I had no idea what the story line consisted of prior to going. Its was an okay movie and it was cute watching all the women sitting around us get flustered over the men in the movie.

I watched John Carter with ONLY's son the other day. I thought it was a fantastic adventure story.

We all watched Hachi together. WOW it was an amazing story of one dog's loyalty to his owner and based on true events. It really got me thinking how lucky we are that our 4 legged critters adore us so unconditionally. I needed a few Kleenex. *blush*

ONLY and I watched Dorian Gray together. It was spooky and even a bit erotic. I liked the combo. :)

Nerdboi 08-09-2012 01:52 PM

Recently saw a campy exploitation film from the 70's called the "Switchblade Sisters" very interesting. It inspired Quentin Tarantino to make "Kill Bill" movies which I'm not a huge fan of. Definitely a great cult classic though I'm sure.

The Economics of Happiness

An independent documentary on how globalization and exported American consumerism is negatively impacting life in other countries.

Very interesting.

StillettoDoll 08-10-2012 06:09 PM

Finally got to see this.....We liked it.

TED. I found it crude and stupid.

Nerdboi 08-10-2012 09:38 PM

Saw a movie tonight called "The Future" an independent film

Description: The cinematic translation involves a couple in their mid 30s, Sophie (Miranda July) and Jason (Hamish Linklater), whose relationship is on the rocks, and their plans to adopt an injured cat, Paw Paw.[5] When the couple decides to adopt the stray cat, their perspective on life changes radically, testing their faith in each other and themselves.

It is an odd movie but entertaining nonetheless.

Lord have mercy

"A Week with Marilyn"

Thank the Goat Gods it was only a week!! Other than that I loved the cinematography! I did not think Williams favored Monroe at all, shrug kind of hard to replicate an original.

The Campaign

Eh... It wasn't as funny as I thought, but maybe I wasn't in the right mood. Some parts were really funny though :-)

A thousand words

After stretching the truth with a spiritual guru, a fast talking agent (Eddie Murphy) suddenly finds his life depending on a magical tree with 1,000 leaves, one for every word he has left. Now Jack's got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he's a goner.

Was cute, amusing, thought provoking as well.

The_Lady_Snow 08-14-2012 11:24 AM

Sad, leaky face movies..

"War Horse"

We are going to have to watch it again because I depressed everyone with

"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"

It's a hard one to watch but the acting is phenomenal the kid is amazing!

Scorp 08-14-2012 12:04 PM

We watched Hanna on HBO over the weekend. Cool action packed, "kick-ass" (literally) movie!

Red-Dragon 08-14-2012 12:27 PM

watched two movies an hr apart
the first was paranormal activity 3, it was awsome freaky if ur mind goes haywire (me) lol
the second was animal kingdom, it was a crime story i just really saw the cover of the dvd case and grabed it  but it was interesting not much action but interesting.

Ginger 08-14-2012 01:14 PM

I just joined NetFlix and ordered I Love You, Phillip Morris.

Loved it!

I'm looking to this thread for more movie ideas, so thanks everyone for sharing your opinions.

The Secretary

This one may not suit everyone's taste. I haven't seen it for quite a while and just put it on hold to see again. It's from 2002 and oddly, it's described as a comedy, a drama and a romance, which is accurate and why I liked it.

Fantastic film.

Kelt 08-20-2012 06:42 PM

I saw Bourne Legacy over the weekend. As a general action flick it was fun.

If you're looking for continuity with the first three, not so much.

In the first ones the protagonists search for his past and the meaning in it gave it focus. In this one that isn't even part of the story, now it's just a hunt for the next fix. (Won't add anything else that would be a spoiler, that much can be gleaned from the trailer).

Great mountaineering photos, shooting stuff, blowing stuff up, and a good motorcycle chase make it fun escapism though.

Friday Night

"The Hunger Games"
- boyofweather says it was ok, not a favorite, we need to read the book.

I was like :| and got bored, I know I know shame on me cause it's such a popular flick. I preferred "Lord of the Flies" if we are using children in a barbaric manner...

The Hunger Games

I loved the trilogy but did not like this movie. What made the books so appealing was not the survival stuff but the ways in which people struggled to retain and regain their humanness under inhumane circumstances. That did not come across in the movie. I was disappointed.

Beautiful Boxer

Last night on Netflix... the life of a transgender tai boxer. I enjoyed for both the storyline and the tai boxing.

I think I'll check that out.

"Hunger Games" was the most recent movie I have seen. Considering that I don't watch tv and this was the only movie I've seen in 3 months, I am irritated that it didn't go deeper.

It was ok...like "Meh, entertaining" but it totally snoozed on the class issues of richer districts having kids who didn't have to put their names in 100s of times due to taking extra food. I think they really could have done something there if they would have gone deeper.

Martina 08-22-2012 11:46 PM

My housemates are watching the Two Towers. I caught a few glimpses while I was eating. Love those films. Did The Hobbit ever come out? I am so out of touch.

SoulShineFemme 08-26-2012 09:22 AM

I watched Safehouse with ONLY last night. It was lots and lots of action, shooting and explosions.

And I ADMIT that I'm the one who picked it out! :p
