I watched a quick one season show called Daybreak on Netflix and also the remake of She's All That (He's All That) and it is eh. There's a lot of social influencing/ers in it and I like that the lead is not a size 0. I like that they brought Rachael Leigh Cook back, too.
There's a bit of that wink, wink in Daybreak too, because it breaks the 4th wall, which Ferris Bueller's Day Off did and Matthew Broderick was in both as well. In between the side stuff I watch, I'm still working through iZombie. I think it has 5 seasons and I'm in season 4 now. |
Watched Do The Right Thing on the criterion channel and I forgot just how great it was on so many fronts. The opening dance sequence by Rosie Perez, the vibrant colors, using veteran and upcoming actors, the message of changing neighborhoods, the beautiful shots of Brooklyn, the anger and violence and the very powerful music.
Think I'll spend some time re-watching Spikes films. |
Fired!
Fired!
From IMDB: When actress Annabelle Gurwitch was fired from a play by Woody Allen, she wondered how she would cope with being downsized by a cultural icon. Turning to friends in show business, she was assured she was not alone. Everyone she knew, from her rabbi to her gynecologist, had their own account of getting the boot. Featuring interviews with comedians, economists and regular working folks, and drawing on her hugely popular book, Fired! is a humorous look at downsizing in America.—Anonymous It was very good. I watched it free of charge and with commercials at www.TubiTV.com (streaming through ROKU). |
The dumbest movie ever. This is what happens when I steer clear of facts and let my mind drift off into the land of visual fiction. Basically it was just a whole bunch of gloomy gray weather, some wood chopping and a death. That and a large portion of it was in a foreign language I didn't understand which the close captioners didn't even bother to caption, not in any language. Well if those portions were as stupid as the rest maybe that was a blessing. I won't name the movie because it might peak curiosity and inspire others to have a look, maybe even watch it in it's entirety and I'm not a torturer. Besides somebody here might have made it or know the person who did but seriously come on Canada I know you can do better.

Colin in Black and White | Official Trailer | Netflix
Colin in Black and White | Official Trailer | Netflix
What you know isn't the entire story. From Colin Kaepernick and Ava DuVernay, Colin In Black and White shows the coming of age story of a kid who just wanted to play ball, but was destined for much more. Jaden Michael stars as young Colin Kaepernick in this six-part series about the athlete turned activist’s high school years. Colin In Black and White premieres October 29, only on Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/ColinInBlacka... From co-creators Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick comes Colin in Black and White, a bold new limited series that chronicles Kaepernick’s story, tackling the obstacles of race, class and culture as the Black adopted child of a white family. Colin in Black and White stars Jaden Michael as Young Colin before reaching the highest levels of American football as an NFL quarterback and becoming a cultural icon and activist; Nick Offerman and Mary-Louise Parker as his well-meaning parents Rick and Teresa; and Colin Kaepernick himself, who appears as the present-day narrator of his own story, guiding viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments. You don’t know Kaepernick until you know Colin. Coming to Netflix on October 29 |

Colin in Black and White on Netflix.
It was heartbreaking, inspiring, entertaining, and good. I very much liked learning about the teenager that grew into a conscientious man. Jaden Michael was excellent as a young Kaepernick, but I was just as impressed with Mary-Louise Parker as his loving but clueless mother who would sometimes follow her instinct without understanding why. It was heartbreaking to feel his loneliness when seeing the racism, micro-aggressions, and colorism he faced. And the tears started flowing when his buddy explained why young Kaepernick couldn’t go with him on some of his escapades. Colin did a very good job as narrator connecting all the dots. Also, kudos to this team for shedding a little bit of light on why some bi-racial people identify as Black. (The choice isn’t always theirs—it’s often a reflection of how they’re treated by society. Think: Barack Obama or Nikole Hannah-Jones. Astute parents prepare their children for this. Unfortunately, Kaepernick had to learn this on his own.) I often avoid films about bi-racial families because they seem to only want to show one side—the side of possibilities and not the side of realities, but this series rang true for me and it’s one I’ll watch again. |

The Harder They Fall on Netflix
The Harder They Fall on Netflix
Watched this yesterday and enjoyed it a lot! Almost errbody was on fire! It was funny, violent, sweet, and sad. Just what you want in an old-school style spaghetti western. And of course, the violence and shootouts were choreographed well, even though I had to turn away a couple times. I will definitely watch this one again. |
I watched a ton of horror movies and such
too many to list them all while i have been in bed the past week, for injury to my back and I'm on steroids and pain meds! |
Yellowjackets
I started watching Yellowjackets {Showtime} and before I knew it, I'd sat through all five available episodes. The first episode is good and gets your attention and then in the second episode it gets really good really fast. They drop new episodes on Sundays.

Kevin Hart has been on my shit list for years, but a friend encouraged me to give True Story (Netflix) a try and I was taken with the first episode. Much better than I ever expected and I'll watch another episode this weekend.
Have binge watched some of the 90 Day Fiancé Pillow Talk on Discovery Plus. I l love watching couples watch other couples. Quite funny at times. It's interesting how we have the right answers when observing others. Binge watched some oldies on Pluto (Medium, Life After Beth, CSI Miami). Am looking forward to catching Stephen Colbert interview Denzel. |
I just found This Changes Everything today on Netflix and devoured it. So good!

Just started a series that's free during Black History Month for Amazon Prime members: Black History, Black Freedom, and Black Love. It's produced by MasterClass. The speakers are: Jelani Cobb, Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, Angela Davis, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Sherrilyn Ifill, John McWhorter, Cornell West.
Black History, Black Freedom, and Black Love covers over 400 years of American history within its 54 lessons and 10-plus hours. It contextualizes thoughts of race and racism, discusses gaps in traditional education in U.S. history, and challenges these obstacles while offering tools and techniques to empower change in our own lives.I had thought about signing up for this series at MasterClass.com when I heard about it last year, but not at the $15.00 a month (billed annually!) subscription fee. So glad MasterClass and Amazon are offering this at no cost even if it is for a limited time. |
Weed The People, with my Boomer adoptive mom..who is a Retired RN...I truly never thought I'd hear her say that I need to move to get Medical Marijuana card and smoke it...
Sad thing is, the illegal growing sites are making the legit regulated growing sites, look bad. Weed, is not a gateway drug by any means, as the old bs propaganda says from the olden days, as I tell my mom. I was doing harder, illegal drugs way before I smoked weed....I was an abusing addict for 3 years, been clean off of that crap for over 20 years now. Also the show on Netflix UNWELL, Passing, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie |
Watched June Again on Kanopy.com.
From Kanopy: During a fleeting bout of lucidity from her dementia, June Wilton has precious little time to bring together her estranged children, save the family business, and rekindle an old flame. It was okay, but nothing I'd watch again. Had a Hollywood ending that I didn't appreciate. Also watched Jane Wants a Boyfriend on Kanopy. From Kanopy: Jane is a bright-eyed young woman in her mid-20s living with autism. When her parents announce that they're moving to the suburbs, they propose that Jane move in with her overprotective, recently engaged older sister, Bianca. Inspired by Bianca's relationship, Jane announces that she wants a boyfriend - and that she wants Bianca's help. Bianca embarks on a search, pessimistic that anyone will accept Jane's eccentricities. Unbeknownst to Bianca, her good friend Jack, a womanizing sous chef who wants to change his ways, becomes enamored with Jane, and goes around Bianca's back to ask her out on a date.I quite enjoyed this and will watch it again in a few years. It, too, had a Hollywood ending, but it worked for me on this film. |
SUPER PUMPED: THE BATTLE FOR UBER (Showtime)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kyle Chandler and Uma Thurman star in the propulsive new Anthology Series. Based on the shocking true story, of the meteoric rise and fall of Uber founder, Travis Kalanick. With a lift from venture capitalist Bill Gurley and board member Arianna Huffington, Kalanick takes a win-at-all-costs approach to forge the fledgling start-up into a multi-billion-dollar tech titan. But every surge comes at a price – and as his visionary drive spirals out of control, it threatens to be the downfall of it all. Trust No One (Netflix) The Hunt for the Crypto King is a Netflix original documentary film directed by Luke Sewell. Its story follows a group of cryptocurrency investors who investigate the untimely death of their exchange's founder, Gerry Cotten as well as the $250 million that they suspect he stole from them. I am enjoying both! |
Closed For Storm. Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans, abandoned after Katrina.
Project Runway for Juniors...right up my alley for creative ideas. That was me when I was younger. That Thing About Pam. |
Shining Vale on Starz. It's like this crazy train wreck you just can't look away from. Courteney Cox and Mira Sorvino are amazing in it for all kinds of different reasons.
And of course, Gentleman Jack on HBO Max. |

Amazon Women on HooplaDigital.com.
52 minutes, French with English subtitles, 2015, directed by Anja Unger. https://d2snwnmzyr8jue.cloudfront.ne...20988_270.jpeg From Hoopla: In France, there are currently about 250,000 women living with only one or no breast. No pictures exist for these statistics and no one talks about it. The current medical discourse does not appear to wish to acknowledge "one-breasted" women anymore. Some brochures, including the one produced by the charity "Vaincre le cancer" (Win over Cancer), tell us that removing a breast is now regarded as a mutilation. The aim is to "restore the aesthetics of the breast" through surgical reconstruction. No one is interested in knowing whether women are prepared to put up with the attendant pain and inconvenience or whether these are the aesthetics they actually want.Amazon Women brings together several women who chose not to be "reconstructed" and who posed for photographer Art Myers for an art exhibition celebrating their choice. The documentary challenges conventional ideas about women, femininity and female beauty. https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/11426623 |
Dark Waters
Available on Peacock for free with commercials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvAOuhyunhY From Wikipedia: Dark Waters is a 2019 American legal thriller film directed by Todd Haynes and written by Mario Correa and Matthew Michael Carnahan. The story dramatizes Robert Bilott's case against the chemical manufacturing corporation DuPont after they contaminated a town with unregulated chemicals. It stars Mark Ruffalo as Bilott, along with Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, Bill Camp, Victor Garber, Mare Winningham, William Jackson Harper, and Bill Pullman. The film is based on the 2016 New York Times Magazine article "The Lawyer Who Became DuPont's Worst Nightmare" by Nathaniel Rich. The story was first told in the 2007 book Stain-Resistant, Nonstick, Waterproof and Lethal: The Hidden Dangers of C8 by Callie Lyons, a Mid-Ohio Valley journalist who covered the controversy as it was unfolding. Parts of the story were also reported by Mariah Blake, whose 2015 article "Welcome to Beautiful Parkersburg, West Virginia" was a National Magazine Award finalist, and Sharon Lerner, whose series "Bad Chemistry" ran in The Intercept. Bilott also wrote a memoir, Exposure, detailing his 20-year legal battle against DuPont. Dark Waters had a limited theatrical release on November 22, 2019, by Focus Features, and went wide on December 6, 2019. The film received positive reviews from critics and has grossed over $23 million. ____________________ It was predictable but I still enjoyed it. |
I watch the first episode of the 21st season of Law & Order on Peacock (the 21st season is free with commercials) and didn't enjoy it.
The acting felt hammed up but I don't know if it was from (1) bad acting by Anthony Anderson and Jeffrey Donovan, or (2) bad editing with the camera lingering on the actors too long, or (3) bad directing. But it was bad. And it seems that Sam Waterston was trying to play the role he played 20 years ago instead of growing into an older, slower man. The recording quality (film or video or whatever is used these days) seemed low. The racial conflict and tension didn't feel authentic and felt like they were pandering to the lowest common denominator. Had me yearning for the days of Green and Bricoe. Think I'll skip the rest of the season. |
I found The Hidden Lives of Pets today on Netflix and I'm liking it so far. There's dancing parrots and a base jumping dog and a bunny with a Guinness world record and car racing rats. What's not to like?

Mainly horror movies on Netflix
I found an app for my Roku Tv that plays only horror movies, so Ive been watching that. |
Outlander ... again
My sister and I just finished another round of Outlander. It was her second time and I'm a little embarrased to say how many times I've seen it. And while it's never as good as the first time, it's at least as good as the second. She lives in a different state so we just text while watching it and well, that's kinda all we both watched for the last couple weeks. LoL

Given My cable boxes will not arrive until tomorrow I have been watching some movies on Prime Video.
The two that I watched and really like were: The Tender Bar In 1972, 9-year-old J.R. Maguire moves into his grandfather's dilapidated house in Long Island, N.Y. Searching for a father figure, he falls under the unconventional tutelage of his uncle Charlie, a charismatic, self-educated bartender who introduces him to a handful of the bar's colorful regulars. As the years pass and J.R. grows into a young man, he tries to fulfill his dream of becoming a writer. Stars: Ben Affleck; Tye Sheridan; Lily Rabe; Christopher Lloyd; Daniel Ranieri This movie was just wonderful and I believe Ben Affleck directed it as well. This one that I would buy and watch over and over. Beautiful Boy Teenager Nicolas Sheff seems to have it all with good grades and being an actor, artist, athlete and editor of the school newspaper. When Nic's addiction to meth threatens to destroy him, his father does whatever he can to save his son and family. Stars: Steve Carell; Timothée Chalamet; Maura Tierney; Amy Ryan Another great movie that I would buy and watch over and over. This movie is based on a true story and you can tell that when you watch it. It seemed to be very factual. |
Part one of a docuseries about children old enough to know better too young to care who do things like phoning in bogus bomb threats, making fake 911 calls, things of that nature. Serious crimes, not very young children at sleepovers making prank phone calls – Do you have Sir Walter Raleigh in a can? Well you better hurry up and let him go before the police find out ha ha ha. It's a changing world.

P Valley on Starz. I'm still digging this. It's vulgar, obscene and so good. Some of the storylines (Colorism is one and Andre is another) are too thin and predictable. Sometimes I speed up the video when Andre comes on the screen. He's so annoying. But the acting by Brandee Evans (Mercedes) and Nicco Annan (Uncle Clifford) is outstanding and keeps me wanting more. I'm also taken and surprised by the complex relationships with the men. This is a show about Black female sex workers in the south and the complex relationships they have among each other and with others, but the relationships between a number of men are just as complex and surprising. And I'm here for Lil Murder and Uncle Clifford.
Animal Kingdom on TNT, Amazon Prime, Sling (with spoilers). This is an American TV series based on an Australian film, that's based on an Australian crime family headed by a woman. Season 6 is the final season of the series, thank goodness. Don't think I could take another season of Smurf (young nor old) who is easily the worst TV mother in the history of TV mamas. Smurf died in season 4, but we're seeing flashbacks of her as a young, selfish, and cruel mother in seasons 5 and 6. These days Smurf's family is still pulling heists led by J and Pope. I've got a feeling things are going to get rough and someone will die. I'm hoping it's not Pope. As sick as he is, he still has more integrity than the rest of them put together. Job well done by Shawn Hatosy (Pope). |

Have been watching the ICE tv series on Starz. It's okay but I'm only watching it because Ray Winstone and Raymond J. Barry are in it. I'll watch the rest of the season and then will probably move on because it's not even holding my interest.
