Clay, thank you for an awesome job wrangling. I am in awe of what came in the mail and will be writing some personalized thank you's this weekend. Right now I am still so dead tired to the world from my new job. Oh, and the best was Clay writing on the outside of the package: "Please do not bend, fold, spindle, or mutilate!" I particularly loved the use of "spindle." Clay, you are the Boss. Thanks, everyone. I received some spectacular pieces, truly.

I say DO IT!

Here are some inspiration tid bits:
  • Break up a cd/dvd (smashing it could be fun by itself) and use the bits as mini mosaics (because who doesn't love mini art?)
  • Use full dvd/cds, paint them with a thick coat of white or black paint or gesso and scribble to your heart's content
  • I intend on checking out Saver's to see if I can score some uber cheap discs, if cost is a concern
  • Orrrrrrr if you have access to something that can shave the discs, you can shape them into vague images and then paint it on the disc (flowers, faces, animals, etc)
  • If you get your hands on discs that don't have any labels or anything, you can just color or paint straight on it and have a cool, shiny background for the negative

I think you'll do great!!!

Thanks. Gemme. Thanks for for the ideas. I think I might have some percolatig. Or of my concerns is that cds are a little cost prohibitive for me so I want a solid idea before I commit. I wont be able to do much experimenting.

Here CCB are some additional ideas, hope you can find some inspiration :) You can do it!! I thought this project would be a nice little change and allow us to play with different mediums.. I have seen your etsy store, and there is nothing you can't do :)

CCB....you can used "old CD's"...I "recycled" 20 from my huge collection I didn't care to keep any longer, and I had some "blank" ones as well. You can get some used ones at a pawn shop, etc. Or ask friends if they have any to give you......

As far as "expenses", this is the least expensive project I have participated in. For once, I happened to have all the things I will need for my ideas! Hence, the name "recycle".

I am sure you will do something awesome. You can do it girl!!!!

Don't forget that you don't have to use one whole disc for each project. You can do all the projects with pieces from just one or two discs if you want.

candy_coated_bitch 05-29-2016 08:59 AM

Thanks everyone for the ideas and encouragement! Ok feeling like i can do this now. I'm still not sure what I'll do but I will find my way. You guys are the best!

Goodwill and other secondhand shops, yard sales and Ebay are other possible places to find low cost cds.
