I'm getting ready to go out, buy some flowers and visit my parents in the cemetery. We'll have a little chat. I will likely shed some tears, put my hand on their headstones, maybe place some small stones. And then I will go home.

If you don't mind me asking Collette, what is the significance of the small stones placed near a headstone in the cemetery? I wish I had read that post prior to your visit, I would have sent some strength out to the universe for after the visit. I understand some how you feel. :) I so hope your chat was a good one!

I'm NOT answering for COLLETTE but I have always wonder too so I googled and found out that............The earliest graves may have been covered by a mound of stones. Though we erect tombstones today, a stone or pebble placed on a head or footstone reminds us of those first humble gravesites. This simple act has come to be a great sign of respect of our deceased loved ones. It is come to signify that the grave has recently been visited and that the deceased have not been forgotten. To make this simple ritual even more meaningful, some bring a pebble or stone from their own garden to place on the tombstone, or select a brightly colored stone to place at the grave. Placing a stone on the grave of a loved one is a tradition that may be personalized to create meaning and bring comfort.

Thank you for your kind response not2shygrrl and to you too, homoe, for your research.

For me, it is a simple ancient gesture to show that the gravesite was visited and the deceased is not forgotten. For some it is also a form of invitation to ask the deceased to come and spend some time with you.

A more traditional visit would have prevented the leaving of flowers but this is a more complex issue. Its reasoning is very interesting but I'll leave that research to you lol. Essentially it is based on the belief that we all leave this earth as we came to it and as equals .

So, "What am I doing today?" ...I'm thanking not2shygrrl and homoe for their kindness.

I am watching a flock of seagulls chase each other, up in the sky.

Maybe the Peregrine falcon couple will come out with their youngest baby today. They're an absolute joy to watch, as they soar the skies with their baby, talking to each other, as they teach their baby how to live. :stillheart:

cinnamongrrl 11-12-2015 07:56 PM

Trying to stay awake as long as possible. My brain has been wanting me to sleep at 830 the last 2 days... which results in me waking up at 230am.. I really only sleep 6 hours on a good night...

not2shygrrl 11-12-2015 11:50 PM

response, to a response, to responding....and so on! :)

Tonight I am responding to a post that I had a question about....after being outside readying a trailer for travels to an estate sale! I saw a few (ahem) items that I want so off I go tomorrow morning, trailer in tow! It is freezing here with this blustery wind....and although it is usually dark here due to no street lights in the woods....its a really dark sky tonight....eerily so. I am happy to be back inside and fussing on my computer here at BFP. :) listening to the thuds and bumps of the outside noises. ~ wishing I had a fire place because it would be roaring right now! ~

serious moments

I was reading posts here at BFP ... then I put my phone down and was sitting here thinking about the horrific tragedy Paris, France just experienced. Acutally, more specifically, I was thinking of the people who experienced it first hand. There they were, all out at different places expecting a nice evening.

So many lives gone in an instant. So sad! The survivors know what real fear is and will never forget.

There is really no solution to this type problem. Fanatical crazies will continue to train for these type horrors in their little secret pockets all over the world.

That scenario could have happened to you, me ... anyone here in the U.S. in her respective city.
Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet.

Bazillions of dollars are spent on security and the money numbers keep increasing ... defeating this monster would be the equivalent of trying to herd cats.

I am not one to stay in doom n gloom places but do at times pause and reflect. I don't clown 100% of the time. Actually, I have cut way back to about 98.3%.

I just had a good chuckle reading Karysma's frustration about wanting to throw the printer out the window. And DADDY4babygrl's smart coaching.

Brought back something funny to me. Years ago, it became necessay for me to learn Unix's VI
editer. One day I became so upset, I wanted to drive my fist right through the computer monitor.
