My own experience and development deepen every day my conviction that our moral progress may be measured by the degree in which we sympathize with individual suffering and individual joy.

For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And along the way, lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.

Something I wrote today....

I could tell you that you're beautiful every day, but you will never see it yourself when you are using a mirror that is fogged. You are your toughest critic; lift your head up high and stop living in the past. Listen to your intuition instead of hearing the abusive words of others from your past. Clean the lens of that mirror and look again while listening to your soul. Live your life for you and accept happiness as your final destination.

It's true that many good things are happening in the world, but we shouldn't be ignoring the progression of our many silent cancers. Part of being spiritual is being alert not just to love and what it can do to save us, but also to our shadows and what they can do to hurt us. The systematic perpetration of income inequality...climate change...child poverty in America...mass incarceration... the corruption of our food supply...limits on civil rights....the spiritual seeker should be leading, not ignoring, the efforts to course-correct nationally. The principles are the same with national healing as with personal healing: darkness has to come up in order to be released. It must be consciously acknowledged and surrendered, or else it cannot be removed.
Today, there's a kind of negative stasis...too much acceptance of things that should not be accepted...acquiescence to incremental approaches to problems for which a mere incremental approach is an inadequate mode of improvement. These are urgent times, and the relative quietude of the moment is a bit like the quiet before a storm. Sort of like the 90's, I'm afraid...and then came 9/11.
From what I can see as I travel the country, many people are doing the right things....we just need to step it up! Push the pedal to the metal! Do whatever it is we know in our hearts we're supposed to do....and do it NOW!!!
~ Marianne Williamson
