On a context note, I want to point out how it feels when you are the young blonde, slim, blue eyed porcelain skinned female in this country. My daughter is one of those. I worked HARD at getting her to not buy into the "desired image" of our culture. She hated that people saw her as that image and devalued me, her mother, who has always been plump, curvy, dark, olive skinned, and now, older and silver haired. She has always valued people for who they are and not what they look like and has had to battle those stereotypes...as well as people who unintentionally devalue her beauty because it IS the desired image. She loves to be beautiful and will advocate her right to be beautiful but also fights to include, not exclude anyone in the realm of beautiful... she told me the other day, "Mo, you havent looked more beautiful than you do now"...wow...I was blown away...but I had to think it over and realized that she was right...and it was exactly how I felt about myself too! QUOTE] Love what your daughter said to you. Also, I'm glad you brought this context up. I think many women that do fit the blonde, leggy , perfect body type are often viewed as dumb in our culture- the dumb blonde. And yes, tye devaluing goes much further. My late partner's daughter is simply gorgeous and brilliant. Guess which attribute she continually was stereotyped as? LOL, she also was one hell of a feminist early on and not one to mince words. Yup, her Mamma taught her well! Then we have the butch looks stereotypes..... ARGH!! |
yes, ALH, many women are placed in the "dumb blonde" category, equating beauty goes hand in hand with dumbness. Wrong wrong wrong. We all know that anyway. I can remember being in Denny's restaurant after an AA meeting with a bunch from the AA meeting. I had my then 8 year old daughter with me. One of the guys was going thru a divorce and was telling horrible women jokes. We women were uncomfortable and were looking at each other but no one spoke up. Well, until my daughter did. She looked up from her coloring book and said "your jokes are offensive to women. Please dont tell them anymore" and went back to coloring.
She hasnt changed much since then. I got my strength from my mother, who could handle any tractor on the farm and still look like a beauty star out of a movie when she tried. She taught me all about business and how to deal with the logics of the world. So she was smart and pretty. and my daughter got her strength from me. And she will pass it to her daughters... in my family, the older females are revered as matriarchs. But the Bubas dont look like they use to anymore. Mine wore bubushka scarves on their heads and flowered dresses and thick hose tied up with those gawd awful rubber band type garters. Now, we wear Liz Claiborne and carry designer purses and yet we hold up our heritage as Bubas with pride. Maybe thats why I dont struggle with the aging process...I find aging powerful and exciting. oh and by the way. mariska is IT! I forgot about her! HAWT! But she needs more weight on her... |

There is something wildly intoxicating about a chiseled face (some might read that as wrinkles) with grey/greying hair on a butch/guy......and, when they open their mouths, and what I hear is intelligent, Gentlemanly, respectful brilliance, tempered with a good sense of humor and grace......and someone who gets me in all my quirkiness.......
THAT'S when I crush. Hard. |

You are the sweetest guy ever and a good example of just a damned good butch. You are OFOS in my book, Romeo. Glad we are friends. Celebrity crushes? Julie Walters. sigh. BFP crushes...grin. OrganicButch:rainbowAfro: of course as an example of how to take a friendship to romance and back to friendship without all the expected, inherent drama. I'd recommend him to anyone but have to screen most out. heehee |
