I'm looking forward to making new traditions with Teddy.....and I'm hopeful that the holiday goes a lot better than Halloween did....

It will. I have already talked to Santa

I'd like to say I can actually sit and share a meal with my chosen family for this upcoming holiday, but instead, I'll be working.
So, until I move near others I can share holidays with, my holidays will be, work, work and more work and not because I want to, but because it is mandatory.

For those able to share theirs with family and friends, Happy Holidays to you all.

This is the Year of the Ugly Divorce so things will be very different for me this year.

For many years, my siblings and our spouses and kids have gone to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, because otherwise we might not even get to see each other, but my parents will be on a Habitat build, my sister just moved to CA, my niece is in Iceland, and so we're not doing a gathering. That was ok -- I'd hoped to spend Thanksgiving weekend getting my house in order, but now my ex's closing was delayed AGAIN and so they'll all still be in my house, so I'm currently searching for somewhere to escape to for that weekend; unfortunately, the folks I might normally visit are all going to have houses full of family, so I'm hoping to find someone who needs a house sitter.

I'm praying they'll be gone by mid-December, because I have two weeks off and I'd planned to use that time to really reclaim my house and make it mine, and also because I'd probably lose my f'n mind if they were still here then. I'm not Christian but I celebrate it as a cultural holiday with my friends and family. On Christmas day I always deliver meals.

And while I have no idea what I'll be doing for New Years Eve, I hope that one way or another I can get good and kissed. Now THAT would start my new year right!

Great update -- I just heard from a local friend who needs a housesitter for Thanksgiving weekend, so the immediate issue of where to be for that day is resolved!! Now to find a place to volunteer for that day, or someone to adopt me for dinner. :)

we are all very close and try to spend holidays together. This Thanksgiving my sister has to work so we are moving our dinner to Saturday. Over the Thanksgiving holiday we will also help my sister move because its the only time she has off. So I'm making the turkey and all the trimmings Saturday morning and serving it all by the fireplace in my living-room.

Dec is Mia's birthday and of course xmas. I don't celebrate christian holidays but I do love the holidays for other reasons and winding down the year. Spending time with family, putting up lights and shopping for the kids. I'm hoping to get a natural, humanely raised ham. I stopped eating pork because of the confinement issue and of course GMO's.

I'm a little uncertain about the holidays this year. I did buy a new oven but it's on layaway and I don't think I can get it out by Thanksgiving, maybe not by Christmas either. Dunno what the holidays will be like for me if I cannot cook and bake for them... there's only so many things you can do in a toaster oven and 22 pound turkeys stuffed to overflowing don't seem to be one of them.

For me the holidays are what I do (rather than where I am, or who I'm with) and most of that is the cooking. Guess I have to think about it more, and figure out a way to have First Nations Day without the turkey. LOL, wonder if zucchini bread would fill the gap...it fits in the toaster oven.

I have options, more than I had last year. There is much less anxiety about the holidays for me this year, now that I'm not living with my girlfriend (but still involved with her). I feel a huge weight lifted.

One thanksgiving I was staying in my RV and the oven is super tiny. I was with a lover at the time and invited my sister and niece over. I bought a capon, cut it up, marinated it and cooked it on the grill. It was fabulous! In my toaster oven I made cranberry corn muffins.

For the last week I wasn't sure what I'd be doing. But yesterday I was invited to spend the holidays with a dear friend and her family...

clay 11-04-2012 12:00 PM

Typically I spend Thanksgiving eating a meal out where a Thanksgiving meal is served.
I have two options this year....do that OR have dinner with close friends. I have yet to decide.
Christmas is same. I usually enjoy a Chinese buffet someplace.
This whole season I am much appreciative of all the wonderful blessings I have. I have my own place, albeit small, it is on a wonderful Island. I am able to enjoy dolphins year round as well as a beach!!
I have my health for the most part. I have some residual issues but those are being worked on!!
So I am pretty sedate for the most part and enjoy the things I do have. I can walk fairly well, I have chosen family & friends, I have my dachshund. I am very happy with my lot in life. I wish everyone a blessed holiday season and wishes for a truly wonderful New Year!!

Us Canadians already did Thanksgiving, I was staying with friends and we had other friends over and had Turkey wars. It was great.

For Christmas I am going to my youngest daughters. My other daughter and stepdaughter are coming as well. I am really looking forward to having my 3 girls together in one place with all 3 grandbabies. And now only the 2 son-in-laws, the 2 I like will be coming. I am really looking forward to having family, and baby time with all of them. Plus I will be going back to the city I just moved from and will get to see friends that I left behind. It should be a really good holiday.

Thanksgiving in Lake Tahoe and Christmas in Florida (as usual)

Looking very forward to Tahoe. I have never been there. We've got a room in a lovely inn and dinner reservations. I need to get away. I was just in Florida in October, but I need something that's new and different (to me).

OMG how excited am I right now? Tooooooooooo damn excited because its time to get into the xmas swing! I'm a HUGE xmas nut and I'm already thinking about decorating! I love snow, gifts, shopping etc ~ this has always been my very favorite time of year so my potential future partner will also hopefully be a fan of the holidays :)

My poor Pete works every other Saturday, and

Sometimes those Saturdays fall on holiday weekends.

This year, she is off on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, but

She has to work on Friday.

I think Christmas falls during the week this year, and

She'll be able to leave early on Christmas Eve.

Pete's work schedule and her responsibilities towards her dependent mother usually determine our plans.

ruffryder 11-04-2012 03:37 PM

We will be spending Thanksgiving with some dear friends here in FL from the BFP site at their place. We all will bring a little something to eat up, traditional and not so traditional. :)

Christmas my daughter will be joining us and I'm ever so thankful for this ! We definitely will be seeing Zimmehs mother and family either Xmas eve or Xmas day and perhaps we may even see the beach!

Zimmeh and I may be working in there somewhere too as we work retail and hospitality and we are always open, with holidays especially busy!

But we will enjoy all the time we can with our loved ones. Zimmeh was already pulling out the Xmas decorations and cards and asking me about when we were going to decorate. I said, "After Thanksgiving, please!"

On a normal holiday the family meets at someone's house and we eat and make a day of visitation. In the past I have spent Thanksgiving at the beach and I have spent it in the mountains. I have spent the holidays here at home for several years now. Thinking about taking a trip Thanksgiving week. Don't know if or where I'll go but I'm thinking about it.

Always spend Christmas with the family. Church Chrismas Eve night, spend Christmas day with the family.

When I had the kids at home still, I spent the day before Thanksgiving baking. I had to listen to Christmas carols while I was doing this. It put me in the holiday spirit and the kids loved coming home to the smells of baked goods and Christmas carols. On Thanksgiving I would get up super stinkin' early to prep the turkey and begin breakfast. The kids usually had cinnamon rolls or pancakes and bacon. The parade would be on the tv and the bird was named. Yes we named it so that when it got it's butter bath I would call it by name. The kids loved this!! Our first one we did this little tradition with was named Butter Butt. Another year we got a breast... her name was Dolly. :D

For the past two years others have hosted Thanksgiving and I have shown up at their place. It's worked okay and, as a matter of fact, Spritz and the General will be here with me for Thanksgiving this year. We will either go to someone else's place or host it all in my little apartment. Next year and on, we will have it at our place and the kids or whomever can return to spending it with me and mine.

Christmas is a whole other story...

starryeyes 11-04-2012 10:18 PM

Since I can't spend Thanksgiving with my family and Justin (my mom wont meet her still...after one and a half years) and Justin doesnt have any family (only a son the baby mama won't share on Holidays), we will go to misfit Thanksgiving at a good friends house where all the misfits bring a dish and hang!

Probably the same for Christmas as well, unless there is some sort of a breakthrough. I am not holding my breath. It's their loss, and our gain.

Happy Holidays!
