Someone save me from myself.

Although.....I really COULD use the cooker thingy. :bolt:

You can have mine, I NEVER have used it. Mainly because I don't know how.. lol

.... swelling! The bruising is still there and will take a few days to go away. But Saturday, I got rid of a tooth with a root canal that cracked down below the gum. Extractions can be tough stuff. :bigcry:

Ice please!!?:snowysmiley:

Today i got rid of a very old couch.
unfortunately one of my cats had hidden in the couch and the super did not know that and threw the couch out, along with my kitty.

Needless to say, it was some time before i figured out where my cat could have vanished to when i got home (they had tossed it out while i was out)
That was some adventure.

Is that called "kitty recycling" ? hahahahahaaha-

ALL of the wood on the porch....FINALLY

JustJo 05-24-2010 09:17 AM

Well this weekend really...and continuing into the week....

I started pruning "stuff" when I decided to move....furniture, books like crazy and all of that....but find the more I get rid of the easier it is to live in my house...more space, easier to clean, and finding I'm not missing anything that I've donated or tossed, so....

The most recent....2 giant garbage sized bags of assorted clothes and kitchen stuff, another box of books (to a book sale for an ill child...awesome!), and a big box of "office stuff" to a co-worker who's still doing the job I used to do and can use it... :)

More to come....errrr.....go

SF_Boi 05-24-2010 09:41 AM

Today, I got rid of......

My old gas line. Living in San Francisco, an old gas line could mean real troble in the event of an earthquake. The construction guys are outside working as we speak! One project at a time! :bobby:

Kenna 05-24-2010 09:44 AM

So far today.... 3 large bags of papers to shred or burn!! and several things ready for the good will.

I WILL get done with this junk today!!

Gemme 05-24-2010 11:31 AM

Today I put away a yummy sandwich and an orange. Yesterday, however, I went through some boxes and tossed/recycled old papers and bits of this and that as I reorganized some of my crafts. I started a yard sale box too!

JustJo 05-24-2010 07:21 PM

It may not be material stuff, but today I got rid of all the applications on my facebook account...no more wasting time on things that I don't actually enjoy or care about. More secure for my computer too! :)

Hmmm, if all the wood on the porch is gone, is it still considered a porch?

I'm getting ready to move to Florida :beachkids: to be with my :stillheart:

To do that, I have to get me, my son, our animals and all our stuff down there too....about 1300 miles away.

I've been pruning belongings like crazy....and yet....the moving company rep came on Friday to work up my estimate (drum roll please) and it's over $3,000 to move all my stuff.

The part that shocked me though is when he told me that the estimated weight was 6,000 pounds. That's 3 tons of furniture, clothes, toys, dishes and various "stuff" that I've accumulated...not counting the immense quantity I've already given away.

That's the weight of your average female elephant...:ellyphanty:

I think it's time to do another pruning....

I had a ginormous yard sale before I moved from Florida to Washington and the proceeds from the sale went to my moving budget. And even then, honestly, I could have sold a LOT more but I was too emotionally attached to a bunch of crap.

Just remember....STUFF can be bought again if need be but honestly...most of us don't *need* the stuff we have. Unless it's an heirloom or you or your kids cannot live without it (not including tantrum inducing stuff they'll forget about in 1.3 months), sell it. You're move will be lighter and your wallet heavier, which is the way we all like to be, no?

Good luck! Cross country moves can be excruciating not only financially but emotionally and psychologically too.

Gemme 06-07-2010 02:02 PM

Oh, I forgot what I was going to say when I came in here...

I got rid of some hair today....and money....but my waxer is quite happy.

GoofyLuvr 06-07-2010 05:12 PM

A few more pounds!!! Can you say "happy dance"?!?!?:happyjump::cheerleader::clap::dance2::weightshock :

iamkeri1 06-08-2010 09:34 PM

I cleaned out my garage and got rid of three VERY large garbage cans full of stuff that was pretty much just crap. Also I put a box of household stuff like vases and candlesticks and mugs out on the curb along with a decent condition coffee table, a twin bed frame and several captains chairs from an old converted van. People came and took them all! I was so happy. I got to get rid of them, but they did not get wasted, they got recycled sort of. I was really smiling when I saw my neighbors pick up two of the van seats. Now they are sitting on them on their front porch - they make great recliners!

Today I was eyeing an upper rack in my closet, but was too tired to go at it. Soon, baby, soon!
Smooches,
Keri

today i got rid of a much beloved tshirt. I have a lot of tshirts...but this one was special. I have gotten too chubby to wear it like i used to. I did find it a good home...my sister took it.

A rash :poc-cool:

Lady_Wu 06-17-2010 02:28 PM

Purses!

I know that this might make me seem outlandish in the femme world, but I made arrangements to get rid of most of my purses todat. Perhaps I'll put them on Queerbay-for free. I'm keeping my brown silk Lama Bag for special occasions, my dark maroon Monks Bag for everyday occasions, my big brown stripped purse b/c it's become part of the family. That is all. 3 purses. Now if I can par down my shoes.....

Gemme 06-17-2010 02:51 PM

I got rid of some trash today, started a yard sale box, reorganized some things and have started a donation box to take to Goodwill and the food bank. So, not all of it is technically *gone* but it's on its way.

femmennoir 06-17-2010 04:12 PM

Trade

Got rid of some assorted kitchen stuff, some I don't need, some I upgraded...dropped off at the Goodwill, where I picked up a signed cookbook by French author/chef, in French, and a brand new chocolate brown Irish sweater, handknit, all for $10.
These are the dangers (thrills) of visiting the Goodwill store, even just to donate! A girl can't help herself, can she? But the rule is to give more away than pick up!

Water

Food Banks always can use bottled water. Just wanted to put this out there. Summer is coming up, and we always will have the homeless and poor with us.

JustJo 07-22-2010 12:10 PM

I'm still purging "stuff" as I get ready to move. Just keeps feeling better and better...

Between yesterday and today I got rid of:
  • 12 bags of books to the library in the poorer part of town
  • 10 bags of books to my mother the packrat
  • 3 bookcases...also to Mom
  • 2 giant sized bags of assorted clothes and kitchen stuff to the charity truck
  • a 3 foot by 6 foot pile of lumber, molding pieces etc to the universe (I left it at the curb and people have been taking what they want)
  • a giant bag of kids winter clothing (snow boots, coats, hats and mittens) to the family shelter in town

iamkeri1 07-23-2010 12:04 AM

two days ago I discovered the "free" section on Craigslist and ebay classifieds
What a discovery!!! I listed and old stove and apartment sized washer that had been lingering in my garage for several years. A guy picked them up today who was unemployed and actually intended to use them rather than scrap them. He brought his young son with him. That reminded me that I had some old kiddie bikes in the shed. He took all three of them and a large "big wheel." He has six kids. He said he fixes up bikes and sells them, so one way or another, some kid will be riding those bikes. Yaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

Additional benefit - this made a big dent in the crap in both my garage and shed. I love it

asphaltcowboi 07-23-2010 06:11 AM

a bad attitude tward the ex and have excepted it as a learning expierance..

Gemme 07-23-2010 09:42 AM

Some money from my boss. It's pay day!

This weekend, I'm getting rid of a LOT of stuff in my yard sale!!! :cheesy:

Lady_Wu 07-23-2010 12:38 PM

Everything!

I have been trying to declutter and have not been able to do so. As soon as my foot heals (I has surgery Tues), I am going to do a "clean sweep" approach that I read about in a blog I follow. This involves putting away literally everything I own. Then as I need something, I will retrieve it. At the end of 6 months (my own deadline), everything unused is going to be disposed of! Viola, end of unneeded items!

iamkeri1 07-25-2010 11:46 PM

Now that I have discovered the "free" section of craigslist, I feel like I can take on (actually, get rid of) anything. My son and I moved a bunch of boxes from a place they were not easily gotten into, to a more open space. Tomorrow I am going out there with a pad and pencil and I'm making a list of the things I want gone. Then I will be listing them on craigslist either for free or a small sale amount. I might actually get rid of everything I want gone.
Yaaaaaaaaah!!!

Gemme 07-26-2010 08:03 PM

Yesterday, I got rid of:

clothes
shoes
scrapbooking supplies
books
stuffed animals
collectible doll
knickknacks
household goods
a grill
bedding
costume jewelry
candles
perfumes
ornaments
cds
dvds
office/school supplies
and a ton 'o miscellaneous

My footprint is shrinking! :cheesy:

socialjustice_fsu 07-26-2010 08:10 PM

Today I got rid of my guilt and regret. It had been consuming me.

Gentle Tiger 08-05-2010 08:16 AM

I did this yesterday but just now seeing the thread.

I got rid of three shirts that no longer fit. I gave away 50 more books. FIFTY! I feel faint. I will be boxing up some more tonight. The list will grow as I continue the move process.

Oh joy unbounded!
:seeingstars:

iamkeri1 08-07-2010 01:19 AM

Got rid of more stuff out of the shed. My dad had an old wheelchair that no one I knew wanted, so I posted in on free/craigslist, along with several large old tarps that were really in my way. The response for the wheelchair was immediate, and the lady who came to get it really needed it. The same people took the tarps, so I got a two-fer.

Watched Oprah's show about hoarding. Hoarding, thank god, is not a problem I have, but still it made me want to go home and get rid of everything. I have claustrophobia and could barely stand to watch that clutter on TV. I would not be able to live in it. Anyway, I still want to give/sell lots more stuff. I have a bunch of stuff put together out in the garage for a sale I hope to have next Thursday

Gemme 08-07-2010 03:24 AM

I gave LOTS of money away today.

*sigh*

No wonder I don't hardly ever go to the doctor or dentist. :glasses:

On a slightly brighter note, I've been working the rest of the day (that wasn't devoted to one doc or another) on getting things ready for my last yard sale here on Sunday. It's not gone yet, but it WILL be shortly and I already made a sale!

chefhottie25 08-07-2010 08:59 PM

it was actually 2 days ago...but i went through my closet and dresser and got rid of clothes i don't wear anymore. now i have room for new ones.

femmedyke 08-30-2010 06:32 AM

Yesterday... I got rid of. . .

an old computer chair, an old table, tons of clothes and shoes, a vase and some some 'roots' that were in said vase.

Gemme 08-30-2010 09:39 AM

I cleaned out the fridge and freezer.

I was initially terrified but am glad to announce it's reasonable now.

Soft*Silver 08-30-2010 09:43 AM

I have been purging my house of all that should not be here. I have had clothes removed, books, garden items I will never use again, furniture, etc. But...lol...I have also brought inthings I need...clothes, books, garden items, furniture....

Greyson 11-23-2010 02:36 PM

Hey Words, I have never seen this thread until today. Last year I sold my place where I had been living for the past 17 years. I had a major purging of "things." I am still going through some things and getting ready to do another paring down in the Spring of 2011.

The hardest thing to part with are my books. I am trying to use a library more often and less of purchasing books. Now, if I could purge the few extra pounds.
