Ah.. now I understand what you want.

Yes, you can name them under it. So you could call them like the following:

nina-fancy-bag-1.jpg
nina-super-fancy-bag-2.jpg
etc..

Use a number in the name to indicate order. :)

I would like to say that I love that we can ask you questions and not feel stupid. You are really an awesome guy... I appreciate all the help you give us... Thanks again!!

thank you

That's up to you but I would avoid spaces, brackets [] or parenthesis () in the name.

My pleasure. As I've always said, I do like to try to help people get the most out of their computers (which are really tools) and remove some of the frustration so that you can enjoy life more. :cheesy:

I am now off to burn my First CD...

How might one's IP address "disappear" and how might one get said address to "re-appear" sans magic of course?

Uh... HUH? Can you put this into a little more context? What are you referring to?

See, I thought I WAS speaking your language, sorry :)

Long story shortish...I was unable to connect to the internet, called the service provider, there wasn't an issue with their service or their equipment, they asked me to provide them with my IP address and when I did, they informed me that my original IP address was no longer valid, that the original IP address had "disappeared" and was replaced with an IP address that begins with two digits instead of three? so I would need to call the manufacturer of the computer for more information.

Off to google more. I thank you, Liz thanks you more!

Linus 09-19-2010 09:58 PM

Let me guess. It started with 10. something? If that is the case there is a special range of ip addresses that are reserved as "private addresses". These are not meant to be routed on the Internet. Think of it like a gated community that doesn't receive direct mail. You have to have a post office box to get your mail.

In this case if you cannot get out on to the Internet the router (the thing connected to your modem, which is connected directly to the Internet) is likely the problem. Is thisma wired or wireless connection?

Hi Linus,
I don't know if I did something or if I am having problems viewing the sight. I'm still getting to know my IMac so it coud be me. Last night I was scrolling down in a thread and the fonts got huge and now I can't get them back to normal. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the fonts may have changed. This can be resolved by going to View --> Zoom and then choosing Zoom out or Zoom Text Only and then choosing Zoom In or Zoom out.

hi Linus :)

For the last few weeks (maybe longer, who knows), my hard drive occasionally makes the noise like it's trying to read a disk, only it's empty. It'll do it once or twice then stop. (win xp)

It does it randomly; i can be reading threads here, in my email, or playing solitaire.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much!!

Do you mean Floppy Drive? If not, then I do not quite understand what you mean since reading the hard drive would indicate that there is a hard drive to read.

Now, if it is the floppy drive, did you recently access a document from a floppy disk? Because if you did, XP tries to keep a cache of recently accessed documents and is probably trying to see if it can find it. You can try the following to see if that stops it.

Go to Start --> control panel --> taskbar AND Go to start menu/[start menu]/[customize]/[advanced]

and at the very bottom click on the
[CLEAR LIST] button

Hey Linus,

I'm looking into connecting both my computer towers to one monitor. I have researched this and the best answer *I* see is the KVM switch.

Do you have any suggestions, or ideas?

Linus 10-29-2010 12:26 PM

There's a whole variety of KVM switches out there. A lot will depend on the kind of video/monitor connections you have (analog, DVI, etc.).

You can find a selection here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=778&srkey=kvm

Sassybren 10-29-2010 04:35 PM

Thank you. That is much better now

If I wanted to post the following YouTube: h.ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teMlv3ripSM

I would just take the part after the = sign and put it between the YouTube tags like so (without the space):

[youtube]teMlv3ripSM[/ youtube]

Let me know if that helps.

WingsOnFire 11-14-2010 04:58 PM

Ok, possibly a stupid question here... I got a Verizon Mifi router that connects upto 5 computers wirelessly. Damon's pc doesnt have a built in wireless system but his desktop has a Linksys 4rt54g5(or S not sure) that is plugged into his computer in the antenna slot. Its a black plastic antenna looking thing (dont ya just love my ability to describe it? scratches my head).

There is no router just the antenna. I am assuming he needs the router as well right? Or is just the antenna piece possibly all he needs? He can not detect the wireless Verizon Mifi router and everything I see online has a router with it. So I am thinking he needs the router itself as well. Hes had it for years so not sure if he is missing part of it.

Thanks in advance!

Becca

Linus 11-15-2010 09:10 AM

Ya. Rumor is Mifi and Linksys don't like each other. Try getting a Belkin or other manufacturer (e.g., Netgear?) and see if that works better.

Medusa 12-01-2010 02:44 PM

Bubba - Do you know of a quick and dirty way to see if a file was encrypted using ASCII or binary. No encryption key available and its a ghost file that nobody seems to be able to open.

Tried my decryption process and it bombed on first record import.

Linus 12-01-2010 07:27 PM

Try opening it with Notepad or use vi. Copy the file first (to ensure the original is kept safe), change the copy's extension to .txt and use a plain text editor (not word or other more robust ones) to open it. Either at the top or bottom, it should indicate the encryption type.

I finally figured it out but Im filing this trick away for later ;)

The original file was encrypted with ASCII then ZIPPED with another file and then encrypted AGAIN with binary. :|

Hey Linus,

I thought there was an arcade thread but I couldn't find it. Anyway, could we get more games any time soon?

Thanks

Linus 12-12-2010 11:26 AM

Hrmm.. Right here: http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/foru...read.php?t=453

And I've been swamped at work (60-80 hours per week for the last few weeks). This week (after Wednesday) should slow down enough that I should be able to add a few before heading to Canada for the holidays.

I have a decent to-do list for the site and that is one of the things "to do".

*depositing my 15 cents*

Hi Linus :)

Is there a way to post a pic or video in a thread that is simply on my own computer, rather than YouTube, etc.?

Thanks!

Dear Linus
I had to click on share (under the video) and take the part after the = sign from there.
we won't discuss how long it took me to figure this out:|

You can save the image to a photobucket account, which is what I do when I want to post a selection of purses or a picture of Pete. I think it's supposed to work with videos but I ended up just starting a youtube account, though I forgot my user name and password.

Correct. We do not support uploading of files directly to the forums. You have a gallery for that or you can use one of the many sites like Flickr, YouTube et al.

Hi, Linus,
I know you've posted how to post a youtube, but the videos I've tried have about a bazillion = signs. I don't know when to start copying and pasting.

Also, do you copy it after the = sign until the end? Or the next equal sign?

Here's my example:

"480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vV0KmOYfomM?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vV0KmOYfomM?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

What do I copy here?

THANK YOU! I have a need to clog up BF bandwidth with useless songs.

Gemme 02-22-2011 08:49 PM

Okay. I haz questions.

I have multiple emails. In this particular instance, email A and email B. Email A has NEVER been linked to this site. That is strictly what email B is for. Yes, BFP has its own special email addy with me.

Now, when I logged into email A today, there's links to BFP and some of the threads here, but instead of saying Butch Femme Planet on the left like my emails in email B do, it lists the poster's Facebook name.

I think I was added to a FB group by someone here without my permission, but I'll deal with that later. That might explain one of the threads that is coming up, but another one is not linked to FB at all.

I don't understand why there's bleeding from one email to the next or why people's names are coming up instead of BFP, especially since I'm not in a group that is linked to both places. I especially don't like the idea of MY name coming up when I post in that particular thread, which I will eventually do, since it's a regular thread for me.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining it clear enough, but I know you'll let me know if we're on the same page. :)

Thanks in advance!
