Losing Chase 1996 Helen Miren Beau Bridges Kyra Sedgwick

Chase (Mirren), a lifetime resident of Martha's Vineyard, married Richard (Bridges), and like the area, grew into the Upper-Middle-Class. Her distaste for artificiality leads her to a wild breakdown, and Richard dutifully tries to restore their family unit as best he knows how by hiring a 'Mother's Helper', Elizabeth (Sedgwick). Chase is broken, and wickedly caustic towards Elizabeth, until they discover each other's similarities. A strong relationship develops, affecting their personal and familial salvation, and destruction.

The Magdalene Sister, 2003

"Set in Ireland, beginning in 1964, so-called 'fallen' women were considered sinners who needed to be redeemed. The film follows the stories of four young women who are all forced by their families or caretakers into the Magdalene Asylum. The film details the disastrous lives of the four girls whilst they are inmates of the laundries, portraying their harsh daily regimen, their squalid living conditions and the oppressive nature of the Catholic faith at the time."

My note: This is one of those movies you'll probably only ever watch once, but you absolutely should watch it once, especially now when American politicians are rolling back reproductive rights for women all over the country.

Zulu Dawn, prequel to Zulu, which I cited in a previous post. Not as good as Zulu but more politically correct. I think the same writer did both. I don't know why I was semi-obsessed with these films at some point. They gave me nightmares, but I always watched them when they came on TV. I honestly can't imagine having the courage the Zulu warriors had, or the British soldiers. I am pretty sure I would have run away.

Beowulf -- the Robert Zemeckis one. Violent and not true to the story. But exciting.
