From Youtube commenter Wolfsky9:

"Just know, this is NOT--NOT, Jo's original '52 version. This is her Capitol version from 1960, when she & Paul Weston remade several of her best songs. This version is--amazingly--one second longer than the '52 Columbia version, also of course, masterfully arranged by her then Fiance , Paul Weston. I love both version myself--Jos' voice is simply THE best, ever...."

Its a shitty mix or enhancement IMO. The arrangement sounds the same though. I have a collection of Jo Stafford, and with Dorsey and Weston. Smokin My Sad Cigarette, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, September in The Rain are terrific I think. But the best was her version of Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe with Johnny Mercer. I like almost everything she did except Jambalya. You have good taste. She fit right in with post swing 46-54 and pre rock n' roll along with Kay Starr, Johnny Ray, Keely Smith, Teresa Brewer version over, Margaret Whiting, Patti Page, Kitty Kallen, Gale Storm, Tony Bennett, and Sinatra who all did original stuff and covers in segregated radio.

I guess we can agree to disagree about the "shitty mix." She is in a class by herself and imho at her loveliest when singing the traditionals: My Heart Is In The Highlands (couldn't find it on youtube), Whispering Hope (the 1949 version with Gordon MacRae), and most of all, the peerless Shenandoah.
Haunted Heart, Little Man With A Candy Cigar (not on youtube), Every Night When The Sun Goes In (not on youtube), and All The Things You Are are my other favorites. The late 70's album was shocking. When I first heard her singing "I Am Woman" and "Stayin' Alive" I thought the old girl was stroking out.

Whispering Hope

Haunted Heart
