Leatherbacks are losing...
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/...massac-008.jpg
" As a species, they are 90 million years old, so I guess they work pretty good! " They do work pretty good.... until humans came and started egg collection, fisheries bycatch, habitat destruction (even something as simple as leaving porch lights on during nesting/hatch season) and I could go on and on. The Leatherback Turtle is now on the critically endangered list. Very sad.... Thanks for posting the cool pictures as it is a good reminder how we can impact a species, intentionally or not. Katniss~~(sorry to soapbox but I volunteered with turtle rescue at St. George Island back in the day and leatherback nests were few and far between. ) |
Even whilst in the midst of a rousing game of "get it!" my feline soulmate understands the import of being snazzy. I'm thinking she's femme.

This baby blue marlin was one of 7 million eggs released by its mother, and was only a few millimeters long upon hatching. Throughout its ~27-year-long life in the Atlantic Ocean, blue marlins can grow to be 14 feet long, weighing up to 1985 pounds. Marlins are frequently tangled in tuna nets and rarely live even after being released due to the physical trauma, leading to them being declared “vulnerable” by the IUCN.
