Nothing exciting here. Still doing a lot of walking with the pup every day to keep things rolling along. Stable weight, which is better than increasing. I only ever have 5 lbs to lose (which seems to never go away no matter what), so it is not a big deal on that end.
I like having the increase in energy I have when I am exercising regularly. That and health is more my focus. |
Dapper, I agree, health and energy are focus, even though I have more than 5 to loose, lol.

Today was most excellent!
Kind of like this, actually: Without Napoleon, of course. And the Iron Maiden. Oh, maybe a little Iron Maiden. I did do weight training after all. I headed straight for the circuit training room as soon as I got in the gym at 7am. Well, maybe 7:15 or somewhere between the two but no later than a quarter after for sure. My ratio was 2 weight lifting sets to 1 cardio set until I finished the whole circuit. It took me close to an hour and no one bothered me until I was halfway through. One guy came in and only worked on arms but he left and never got in my way. I was about 3/4 finished when another guy came in and he didn't get in my way but he came close. He didn't wipe the machines when he was done either. Gross! I then moved straight on to T33 and we had a rousing bout of walking and pseudo-hiking. Random program, levels 3-12. No running intervals. It was hard not to too because I came very close to a milestone but I did not break protocol in order to reach it. An exercise in self-control that I passed with flying colors! T33 stats: 398 calories, 3.49 miles, 65 minutes If I didn't have to go at that moment, I would have started another program and continued for another 30-60 minutes, easy. The urge to continue was very strong. I was totally in the zone today!!! |
I went on a 2.5 hour walk in Riverside Park. For the most part I walked repeatedly in a fairly small, nicely shaded circle that consisted of walking up a set of steps and down the Forever Wild dirt path amongst the trees. I'm very into this set of steps because they are spaced far apart, like a slope instead of just up. Thus I can jog up the steps at an angle that is more knee friendly. It's a nice sprint. I got very dirty on the Forever Wild path. I guess it's labeled as wild for a reason. It was so warm and fragrant on the Forever Wild path that it was worth it. When I repeat a small area, I see the same people who are sitting on the grass and on the benches over and over (and vice versa if they are looking but usually they are not). I just keep circling around them like a shark in a fanny pack. Then I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the stair master, followed by a cold shower to remove the "wild." My gym only offers cold showers but I didn't want to take the "wild" home so I endured the madness.
|
Yesterday, I contorted my body in a very small space in order to to remove the hardtop from my very small two seater car. Stripped screws are NOT fun! :seeingstars: I really was concerned I wasn't going to be remove the screws and therefore not be able to remove the hardtop of the convertible.
So glad I got it off. Nothing like driving with the top down! |
at work:
I had to haul 3 things (1.5 cu ft each) of soil for my client... I say it counts!! after work: a 2 mile hike (about 30% uphill) with 3lbs ankle weights...the weights work totally different muscles. I felt my inner and upper outer thighs (around the hip flexors) and even my calves and butt a little on the hills....my knee started giving me grief at the top of the hill, so i used the weigjts in my hands instead... im thinking yoga with wrist weights would be interesting.....as would the tae bo ish workout I have..... tonight : a step workout with 5~7lb weights.... Im trying to "earn" my TV time by exercising as I watch.... :) |
Super sore from yesterday's circuit training but far less than if I hadn't stretched well, had the massage and took a couple of fake Aleve before bed. Even my calves are tender, which is out of the ordinary. I pushed myself really hard and had an amazing workout. Totally worth it!
Not much today but I did walk down to the Redbox in the rain (a mile round trip). I used to love walking in the rain when I was a kid. Good to know that I haven't completely grown up yet. |
started my day out with yoga....
then going to do a cleaning job....it burns calories...so it counts to me... speaking of which, I may have mentioned previously the site fitday.com They help you calculate your caloric needs for weightloss and even tell you what your everyday activities burn for calories. They even include sexual activity....ahem... Ive found it to be one of the more user friendly sites that exist... |
My exercise experience for the day was dragging my ass out of bed to go to the pharmacy and the grocery store. I have very basic standards right now.
|
I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the Stair Master (Interval program 45/50), followed by a combined hour of weight lifting, planks, and leg exercises.
Trainer to me (while working with a woman named Gail nearby on exercise mat): "How is your day, Ma'am?" Me: "Good, how's yours?" Trainer: "Fabulous. Every day is my best day." :

Today I did the 2 mile hike with ankle weights...then I added in a climb up the Quabbin dike....which...is straight uphill.....theres a series of 3 tiers. I did two of the three....one with weights one without. Then I went downhill....which for me is actually harder...or used to be....with the weights and finished my walk with them.... when I say straight uphill.....standing still killed my calves...and nothing kills my calves....Im sure it was over 100 feet in total....so I did 2/3.....and will be adding it on to my repetoire.... :) |
Still doing Pilates. I really love it.
I never thought I would find a form of exercise that I not only enjoy but miss after a couple of days off. It never feels difficult while I am doing it but always need a couple of days for my muscles to recover between times. :moonstars: |
I had to get a blood pressure cuff for my new PT back exercises.
They have me put it under the small of my back when I lay down, then I have to do various inverted marches and other leg things without making the needle on the gauge move. That's a whole lot harder than it sounds and really works the lower abs. Combined with my "I don't even know how many" squats in various configurations with resistance bands make for a pretty good core workout. Now, if it only would only hurt less. |
ever the minstrel of knowledge Kelt; I never thought to look for core exercises using resistance bands...I have many! My back doesnt like floor exercises...and my dogs always come smell me if I do get down on the floor...so....I will look into that now that you gave me a mind to. :)
today was an epic fail for exercise. I did 15 min of my typical 30 min yoga...so basically it was stretching; couldnt go for my walk after work since I knew my mother needed to go to the ER (Shes fine tg) and then I ran errands after dinner then came home and started some heavy cleaning for no apparent reason. Still...I should throw on my big girl yoga pants and get it done....but....i dont wannnna ..... im TIRED |
I did an hour on the stair master (Intervals: 45/50) and then a combined hour of weight lifting, abs, and yoga. I've become addicted to the stair master for now. Love it!
Story from the gym (not from today but I can't help thinking about it whenever I have the choice between stairs and an elevator in life... which is, of course, a lot): This normal looking, fit, young woman had just finished some intense exercise class, and she was at that level of combined fatigue and exhilaration where one is somewhat psychotic. I heard her whisper to herself in a fog, "I'm so exhausted. I'm going to take the elevator." And then she stopped suddenly, turned on her heel, her glassy eyes wide, and whispered to herself definitively, "No, I'm going to take the stairs." It was like she caught herself while in a post exercise delirium almost committing the sin of taking the elevator, but instead she was going to keep the momentum alive. It was so memorable to be inside her internal process. Not sure why! It still gives me a laugh but also holds some power in it I guess. |

When the endorphins are doing their thing it does feel like a crime to take an easy way out when you have an option. I'm already sweaty and I think to myself that every single movement counts, because when I'm honest with myself, I know I'm not going to workout as much as I should so I try to make every second that I do count. Those are my quality over quantity days. |
I did an hour on the stair master (Intervals: 45/50) and then a combined hour of weight lifting, planks, and stretching.
Who did I end up next to again but Clayton, the Positive Trainer, training a woman named Samantha. He asked again how I was, and I again said, "Good, how are you?" He said, "Fabulous! I couldn't be better!" :hrmph: I get a laugh how he sounds so sexual when instructing his clients, "Samantha, I want you to get on all fours!....Now, Samantha, turn over on your back and lift your rear-end!" It's all said in such a definitively positive tone. He says it without any sleaze which somehow makes it all the more perverse to me. :mohawk: |
Up the hill in the backyard, get an arm load of lumber from the top near the fence, down the hill, through the gate, load onto truck ... cycled through that about 5 hours today ... also cut up several large pallets and did the cyclic thing with them too ... hard to part with some of it ... had to hold it, roll it over and examine it and think what a fine piece of wood ... that sentimental crap held me back some but just as well ... my feet are worn out but will feel brand new in the morning :)

Runnin' down a migraine...

Another stellar Sunday!
45 minutes-ish in the circuit training room. Two parts machine to one part step ups/cardio. I concentrated on quantity for the first set but quality for the second and used a lighter weight the second time for most of the machines to ensure the best form possible. It worked too. No tweaked or pinched nerves this time which is good because there's no hour long massage afterwards this time either. I did do the hydromassage for 10 minutes, but it's soooooo not the same thing. Only a couple of people came in and worked the machines while I did but no one get in my way. Woot. I hoped on my buddy, T33, and we walked/hiked steadily for an hour plus cool down. It seemed as if T33 was going easy on me today even though I regularly upped the level. I even got in one running interval of 1.5 minutes @ 6.0 mph. Final T33 stat tally: 445 calories, 3.45 miles, 65 minutes. I didn't feel the physical urge to continue to do more like I did last week but I got a lot of work in, so I feel good about that. |
Today I did 30 minutes on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals), 30 minutes of weight lifting, and 30 minutes of yoga.
I listened to a female trainer and the woman she was training chat with each other. The trainer was planning on going on some organized group hiking and camping expedition that was like adventure travel. Here is a highlight from the exchange: Trainer: "There is nowhere to go to the bathroom, so I will have to dig a hole and bury my shit, and that will be hard, because I shit like three times a day." Woman being trained: "Sometimes my shit schedule changes when I travel, like I just won't shit. So maybe it won't be that bad. Know what I mean?" Trainer: "Yeah, I hope so." They seemed to have quite a close bond and even whispered to each other on occasion when things got personal. But if they didn't choose to whisper that exchange I just cited, it sure made me wonder what was worthy of being kept quiet :
yoga was about all I managed today....
I went to go hiking at an old favorite hiking spot near my dad's house....but it was swamped with people....when before it was devoid of people... so...no hike for me! Sad really.... |
On Wednesday I up'd my work out a bit cause I was really tired with what I was doing,I used the stepper and epillipitical for 50 steps each and did them with ease.Later in the day my joints started hurting then becoming stiff plus my knee felt on fire,no pain just burning,so I iced it a lot but it took till today to stop being hot.I feel better today and even played some basket ball then rode the bike a while so all is well at the moment and tomorrow is another day.Take care all.

I only have mild soreness in my shoulders and tri area this morning. With no massage and no anti-inflammatories to counterbalance yesterday's workout. Sweet. That will make work much easier; not wincing every time I lift my arms more than a micrometer. lol
Jennifer, I can sympathize with the trainer. When I am working out regularly and eating well, I am more regular and regular more often. The whole body system works better in general but especially elimination. I, personally, prefer indoor plumbing so that kind of trip would not be for me. |
today I left work a little early to get a swim in the outdoor pool (it was so gorgeous out that I needed to get a bit of a tan, as well). The outside pools lanes are 2x the length of the leisure pool that I usually swim an hour in. I have been building up my stamina for these lanes and today I swam 45 minutes in a lane double the length. Feel great. As a reward (with sunscreen on) I needed to dry off my bathing suit in the sun (excuse for staying a laying in the sun). Look healthy
|
My client was at a lomgg appointment today....so.....
I did the stairs at the facility a few times....did some seated leg raises (for abs) in the empty waiting room.....lol I can only read so much.... Tonight after I get back from taking my bug to work, Im gonna get a good workout in with step and weights. Im using up to 10lbs now for biceps...woohooo! |
tomorrow I have a complimentary session with a personal trainer, didn't ask if it was an hour or a half hour but I am sure that this woman is going to come up with a program that will work my core.
Looking forward to it. May give myself a gift this summer and get a session every other week until I "get" what I need to do. |
wow, had the assessment by the personal trainer and it was really excellent. It answered a lot of questions regarding some weaknesses in my body as a result of a what is thought to be a TIA last summer.
Now I really owe it to myself to use some of my summer work money (since I am not going anywhere) to work weekly with this trainer. Feeling healthy |

I just started using an app called Zombies, Run! today. I'm not usually the kind of person who really enjoys running unless its while playing a sport. But this was a lot of fun! Basically an app that takes you through a zombie apocalypse scenario as you run. You complete missions and accumulate different items to bring back to your base as you run. Currently there are 3 seasons and there's apparently a pretty elaborate plot line behind it. So far seems interesting anyway. Almost like a book on tape or something, but interactive. And your phone GPS tracks how far you've gone, average speed as well as items you collected.
Its also pretty open as far as ability as well. It doesn't really push you to run faster than you can, and it doesn't really penalise you for walking if you need to. Have read some people saying even walking "faster" when it tells you to run is fine for them. Today I ran and walked in intervals when I used it. Oh and apparently you can adjust it to use on cardio equipment as well, but I haven't tried that yet myself so dunno how well it works. |
It seemed like whenever I aimed myself towards any machines this morning, someone got in my way and/or was on it already.
Hrmph. T33 and I had a grand time on our own despite that. The usual random program underway and I started at my usual level 3, but every 15 minutes I bumped it up 3-4 levels, ending at level 14. I had 3 running intervals in the first 15 minutes at 6.0 mph for 1 minute at a time. Stats: 429 calories, 3.53 miles, 65 minutes After I stretched, I finally found a couple of unoccupied ab machines and did a couple of light sets and I also did a set on the back machine. At least my core got a little bit of help today because no one was willing to give up anything else that I wanted. That's what I get for laying around in bed, listening to the rain. Early bird gets the worm and all that..... |
workout experience today.....
I started a 14 day smoothie challenge and signed up for the gym at the local sports center.
being 5'2 at @ 160lbs my goal is to lose 40lbs....I do love my curves but I want to be healthy. I come from a long line of curvy and just overweight women (both sides of parental units) Wish me luck. weightlifter: |
I just started Day 1 of my ten days off between the end of the regular school year and the beginning of working summer school. I'm looking forward to my gymcation and got a great start today. I did two hours on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals) and then a combined hour of weight lifting, ab exercises, leg exercises, and stretching. At one point while exercising I listened to the conversation in a personal training session. At the end of the session the trainer (a man) said to the woman he was training, "I had fun killing you today, Babe. Have a blessed weekend." Just for fun, I later said it to myself (only in my mind) when I finished my own workout :).

Friday
T33 and me. Random program, levels 3-9. 266 calories, 2.39 miles, 45 minutes Saturday T33 and me. Random program, levels 3-13. One interval run for 90 seconds at 6.0 mph. 233 calories, 1.86 miles, 35 minutes |
Heat index over 100 today and horrible humidity. Mowed the lawn. I know I dropped at least 5 pounds ... all fluid. Became a little dizzy one time doing the hill part and sat down a few minutes. Plus, had to unload lots from my new truck and sort. I hurriedly went by Goodyear and got all my things from my old truck before the Ford dealership came to retrieve it.
I have decided I am not pushing myself so hard outdoors anymore trying to get everything accomplished fast in one or two days. It will all get done eventually. |
Looks like you'all have been doing well on your quest for better health,I wish I could get as much time at working out as so many of you are doing. But,today I did manage a 40 minute work out with out any issues, all the short sessions I have been doing must be doing some good,I waited till 7:00 to get it done cause the temp was better plus I have tons of shade to work out in.I got a warm up in,played some basket ball till I had a good sweat going then hit the bow-flex for upper body work after I did some ab work with ending on the exercise bike for 15
minutes.I also am now using a wrap around ab support to help my back not to tie up on me,works good too. |
