Watching LSP always does it for me.....

cinnamongrrl 08-07-2013 11:06 AM

My client....

I had been bringing a grapefruit to work with me, so she wouldn't feel bad about having breakfast without me...and this week I haven't had one...she looked at me today and said, "No grapefruit today?" and I was just...amazed. She typically doesn't remember the previous day...and she recalled my grapefruit fetish... :) :) :)

Daktari 08-07-2013 11:45 AM

Simple things

A new set of hex keys with funky multi use handle.
A new brad awl
A new pair or wire cutters.

cinnamongrrl 08-07-2013 01:50 PM

This was a few days ago...but I need to have a positive thought right now....

We went to a Revolutionary War encampment/re-enactment at Old Sturbridge Village, a Colonial Williamsburg type place. There were heaps of kids, all running around with their 3 cornered hats and fake muskets, just really getting into the whole thing.
It made me happy to see that kids still do love to learn...especially when it's something they can engage in physically as well as mentally. I know field trips there were always a favorite of mine...

and...

The price of admission can go towards a season pass, so I can go there whenever I want! Each season brings different things...This will be a nice venture on our days off when we are clueless about what to do... :)

Finally walking away from a business venture that I held onto for far too long. While it was profitable it was not something I personally felt was beneficial or worth the hassle in my life....feels AWESOME!

batennisboy 08-07-2013 05:58 PM

RockOn 08-07-2013 07:00 PM

Just remembered a few minutes ago I told our secretary last week I would be away from the office this Friday. Since Fridays are casual days, I will wear my 501's tomorrow and dare anyone to say anything to me about it. It will be my casual day.

Hollylane 08-07-2013 08:10 PM

I was told that I should try drinking 1 gallon of water per day, for benefits to my health, . That was over 2 weeks ago, and up until yesterday, I could only stomach (literally, because it added to my usual nausea) a half gallon. Today, I drank a gallon, and it made me smile (and peeeeeeeee). I also lost 10 pounds, and I am quite proud of myself for that accomplishment.

This may sound way out there, but what made me smile today was my neurologist taking on the insurance company and actually getting approved all three MRI/MRA's and then the Imaging place actually getting me in within the next week and a half. It will take 2 1/2 hours, but oh well. It will be done and then I can finally find out what is going on.

Cailin 08-07-2013 08:27 PM

watching the castro house getting demolished.

JAGG 08-08-2013 07:45 AM

A double rainbow in the sky just now.

ForeverBlue 08-08-2013 08:47 AM

Waking up to a sunny day and being off work for the week, watching my old pug dog just about go through the gazebo screen to go plunck her butt in the sun.

Katniss 08-08-2013 09:40 AM

Big smiles....

Way back in the President Clinton days some of you may remember the “Welfare to Work” program. It so happens my organization was given economic incentives to hire some of the people who had been long term welfare recipients. I recall very distinctly that some of my colleagues not only were not interested in this program but actively discouraged others from using it. The standard “more trouble than it’s worth” and “you are just going to cause problems for yourself down the line” and “they don’t really want to work, are lazy, uneducated, etc. ” stereotypical lines were all trotted out. My director at the time even discouraged me from hiring a person off of this program. But I did.

As the years have gone by I have watched this woman arrive on time, after 2 bus transfers each way, often in the rain…every day. I have watched her struggle to learn computer systems when she had never had access to a computer before (she is an older woman and computers were not of her generation.) I have seen her come in and borrow various old textbooks off my shelf to read at home (Strunk and White grammar anyone???) I have seen her tackle any task given to her with calm and determination. Also note hardly any people outside a very few know of her background so as not to have her stigmatized when she started work years ago. All her “catch up learning” has been done quietly at home.

Yesterday I watched as she accepted the highest recognition award my center has to offer. She beat out many highly degreed candidates for the honor. What she doesn’t know is in a few weeks she will be given the highest award my entire organization has for employees in her field. This isn’t a “feel good” award as it must be earned and competition is tough and the nomination forms go through several different panels.

I'm not a Pollyanna. I know all stories don't end like this. But I also know if we don't provide opportunities where we can, then we will never have these happy endings....

Success looks good on you girl. So yeah, this makes me smile.

Katniss~~

What made me smile today was:

Getting an email from an old friend, someone I love and care about. She sent me a poem she had written and it was nice to see she still thinks of me.

cinnamongrrl 08-09-2013 03:25 PM

Waking up to a (rainy) day at the beach....the smell of sea air coming in the windows....

My niece delighting in nature....finding sea urchins, crabs and snails in tide pools. How excited she was to learn about barnacles... :)

Taking a side trip, trying to get to Walden Pond (yes THE Walden Pond) getting lost, but ending up in the adorable town of Concord...as in Lexington/Concord of Paul Revere fame :) I do love the history in New England...

A little fun my mom and I had....to be continued in the "awkward moment" thread.....lol

MsTinkerbelly 08-09-2013 03:47 PM

The emergency room didn't have to admit me last night, that made me :)

Canela 08-09-2013 04:05 PM

The kindness of a stranger...

MissItalianDiva 08-09-2013 10:02 PM

What made me smile today....

I took the tractor out and cleared an area I've been trying to clear for a couple of months. It looks great, but I pissed off the deer for a bit.

Hollylane 08-09-2013 10:29 PM

Thinking about all the upcoming Ravens games I'll be watching with my Butch....:) I can't wait!

From that random comment of never quitting or having a give up attitude! Thank you!

And why wouldn't everyone have it ??

The GF has been talking for some time about trading in her 4- runner for a truck, a full-size Toyota Tundra because her SUV couldn't pull the weight of her camper.

I tell you the boi loves her toys.

Me? I drive my Corolla, which followed my beloved Civic hybrid getting t-boned last year. I have no toys.

Well, unless you count my beloved Hitachi, that is.

Anyway, I digress.

I got home from work tonight and it had gone from her talking about it, to her driving up in one that she had just bought.

She looked lovingly at it and said: "Isn't it awesome, it's so butch!" :mohawk:

I smiled and said "Yes honey, it's pretty butch".

I took the requisite ride in it, she then dropped me off back at the house and she went for more adventures in her new truck.

I went back in to finish Project Runway.

We were both smiling, for different reasons.

Licious 08-10-2013 12:30 AM

Thinking that a certain someone found me attractive and was interested in me, haven't felt that in many many years. Was fun while it lasted and made me smile.
