Another late night movie!

I watched 12 years a slave last night.

Not as good as I had hoped, but still worth watching. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt2024544/

cinnamongrrl 04-10-2014 04:29 AM

I found a movie at the library called Winters Bone. It stars a very young Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games). It was pretty good....even more interesting was the behind the scenes stuff. It takes place in the Ozarks and they used real local people whenever possible...much like Nebraska...

Escape Plan

Stallone and Swartzeneggar. Liked it. Good action. Interesting story line. Both need better hairdressers to cover the balding spots.

I was disappointed. Some head injuries can cause a loosening of inhibitions. I didnt see that in this movie. I saw a depressed, unfulfilled, bored spouse searching for something elusive. She didnt seem too happy even being a clandestine sex worker, surrogate, therapist.

Dallas Buyers Club - good movie, but it felt somewhat "held back". In other words, I felt like it was building toward something huge that never happened. I would still recommend it.

I think that everyone that I've spoken with has loved Dallas Buyers Club, until now. I was not really impressed. It was ok, but not something I'd watch again.

12 Years a Slave. So well done but so profoundly sad.

I am still thinking about it days later.

Kobi 04-25-2014 05:08 PM

Philomena

Judi Dench, Steve Coogan, Mare Winningham

Based on a true story.

In 1952, a young Philomena was sent to the convent of Roscrea in Ireland after becoming pregnant. When her son became a toddler, the nuns sent him to America for adoption.

Nearly 50 years later, Philomena meets Martin Sixsmith, a former BBC reporter looking for his next big story. Together, they embark on a journey to locate her long lost son. As the pieces of the puzzle come together, the unlikely travel companions form a comic and heartwarming friendship. Based on the 2009 investigative book by Martin Sixsmith.

-----

Very powerful. A mother determined to find her son, a son equally determined, and the Catholic Church determined to hide the truth.

I'm watching Amistad. I first watched it get filmed and then watched it when it came out in 1997. I noticed it on netflix and thought today would be a good day to watch it again.

cinnamongrrl 04-26-2014 12:03 PM

cant remember if I posted it...

I saw Heaven is for Real. The true story occurred in my friend's hometown...and I was sad to see they didnt film there...

The movie itself was good. I think I will read the book. Seems it couldve been better in some parts...

'Inception'
Quite a clever film.Few years old but still very entertaining has sci fi, thriller & action themes running through it.Definately worth watching.

Stud_puppy1991 04-27-2014 07:30 PM

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. Such a great movie, and so very relative to life. Especially for me. Have read the book as well, and both get me emotional every time

Rockinonahigh 04-28-2014 01:27 AM

A cheesy ate night run of Godzilla vs. Mothra.

Under The Skin

Synopsis:

Scarlet Johansson plays an alien on earth disguised as the aesthetic
form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate
scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey.

I liked it, kind of dark and humanistic...yet cool and different.

I just watched "Argo" about extracting americans from Iran in the 1980 hostage crisis. Based on true events.

Even though I remembered how things happened it still had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times. I enjoyed it.

I watched Argo last week. I also remember the hostage crisis but was not at all familiar with the would-be hostages.

Yesterday, I watched Wreck It Ralph with my nephews.

The Other Woman. Hilarious!

deathbypoem 05-08-2014 11:18 AM

Lately we have watched:

the monuments men ( I will have to re-watch it b/c I was falling asleep at the time it was on lol), After Earth (Will Smith, great movie), Labor Day (good movie, missed the ending, which I heard was the best part, Have to re watch this one!), Secret life of Walter Mitty (Odd but so neat too).

Also, I have some questions about movies on my "To See Movie List". I don't want spoilers, I would just like basic feedback and opinions on the movies. :) Here are a few on my list I am wanting to see. Has anyone seen these? Feedback?

1. The Railway Man
2. Winters Tale
3. Stalingrade
4. Face of Love
5. Million dollar arm
6. Frankie & Alice
7. Wrath of the Titans
8. Bad Country
9. The pretty one

Also, I am looking for other movies to watch and add to my movie list.

What I am looking for are documentaries/movies concerning the Holocaust and WW2. I have seen so many of them and I am searching for ones that I have not seen yet. So any ideas there, would be great.

Also, I am looking for movies based on true stories concerning FLDS and Polygamy. (Have seen a lot of these also)

And any other movies within these genres, based on true story movies that are in the genre of drama/psychological thriller either.

Also, very HUGE on Indie films as well.

Thanks to all who respond :D

I Enjoyed Face of Love

I seen Annette Benning promoting this movie before it came out and she said it was based on a true event, not to be confused with a true story. It’s definitely a premise I’ve never recall seeing used in a movie before. Like I said, I rather enjoyed it!

I enjoyed that movie, lotta laughs. I brought my mom to see it on mother's day and she thought was good also. I agree Leslie Mann got me laughing the most. I really liked the interaction with all 3 ladies.

Son and I watched "American Hustle" and we both thought it was okay, but we thought it would have been much better considering the hoopla we heard about it.

*Anya* 05-17-2014 07:13 PM

Philomena.

Excellent but a sob-o-thon for me.

Girlfriend fairly dry-eyed.

Go figure.

WildHorses 05-17-2014 08:58 PM

Blackfish - I liked it-interesting.

This fascinating documentary examines the life of performing killer whale Tilikum, who has caused the deaths of several people while in captivity.

Duchess 05-17-2014 09:17 PM

Transcendence

Really cool movie. Love Johnny Depp. Hope there's a part two.:)

Gráinne 05-18-2014 08:54 AM

I confess it was Godzilla! :). We're not talking Sir Lawrence Olivier here; but for what it is, it was fantastic. I'll just say they left it open for a sequel.

Blood Ties....Clive Owen & Marion Cotillard

Synopsis: Violence erupts when two brothers on two sides of the law face off over organized crime in Brooklyn in the 1970's.

Yes, I enjoyed it w/the exception of Mila Kunis' horrible NY accent.

homoe 05-24-2014 03:10 PM

Enemy ...

A film directed by Denis Villeneuve; it was adapted by Javier Gullón from José Saramago's 2002 novel The Double.[1] The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal in a dual role!

This movie was just to far out there for me! I watched it on Demand so afterwards there was a discussion between Jake and director Denis Villeneuve, but even that I didn't watch in full.

CA_BabyCakes 05-31-2014 07:54 AM

Went to see Malificent last night, as a request from the kids. I absolutely loved the movie!! I will for sure be watching it once more this weekend!

ProfPacker 05-31-2014 08:03 AM

I don't have the kids this weekend but probably will go with them sometime and then I suspect when it comes On Demand and Netflix it will be a repeat, a repeat and a repeat. And next weekend I am taken up with Orange is the New Black starting 6/6. Mommy time hahaha

I so agree with you!

I read your review and we decided to take a chance on it anyway.

Bad move.

After about 15-20 minutes my girlfriend said: "I don't like this movie" and I replied: "I hate it. homoe was right-we should have paid attention".

It did get in the 60% range from Flixter and the Tomatometer critics/viewers. We thought it would be a fairly sure thing.

Next up to see: Chef. Looking forward to that movie.
