you would think keeping the lid down would fix it. But a big knows no barriers, and they (the newf breed) are so genteel and honest of a personality, that they dont understand that it is wrong to drink from the inside watering hole. In fact, they come up to me and thank me for giving them such fresh cold water..as it drips out of the flews of their mouth. I have watched my newfie slide her nose under the lid and just slide her face down to drink. She didnt even bother to lift it up to stay. She figures if I want the seat down, the least she can do for such an accomodating Missus, is to slide the lid back down when she is done.

The newf is a water dog. Puppies fall asleep with their heads in water bowls. Adults join kids in their wading pools. Unlike finicky little dogs who cannot stand to step in water puddles, mine walk and plod right in them.

I have even tried to duct tape the lid and seat down. LOL. Oh no...they just have to work a little harder at it. And Story lays down in front of the bowl until its fixed so she can drink. Patience is her middle name and she can sit there for hours.

When I clean the bowl I literally have to lock her out of the bathroom. I could do that all the time, but the bathroom floor is the coolest tile there is. Being a long haired double coated breed adapted for weathers from Newfoundland Canada, cool tiles are cherished ground...

So i leave the seat and lid up and they drink. People who find a problem with this, well, sorry. Thats why I live alone...I wont let anyone tell me they love me and then turn around and berate my newf. Love me. Love my toilet drinking long tendrils of drool, smiling newfies!

I'm just kind of curious about something. A couple of femmes have used 'he' and 'him' when talking about what they might do for butches who come to visit. Since, at least for the most part, 'he' is not the default pronoun for butch folk on this site, I have a question.

Does the use of 'he' in your posts mean you are talking about a transman and/or a male id'd butch? I have to assume that, because you certainly can't be talking about what you would do for a butch woman while using male pronouns. I must also assume you don't date butch women. If butch women are also in your realm of dating, you might try s/he as an inclusive way to use pronouns.

(and S/He is also a great book by Minnie Bruce Pratt.........a kick ass femme who has written some great stuff)

My sweetie hasn't yet been to visit me at my home, as much as I would like that. Because of work and child commitments, I'm the one logging the frequent flyer miles. :flying:

There are some sweet things she does for me when I'm there....and some I try to do for her...

:rrose: She always has diet coke and doritos...my two big weaknesses

:rrose: She is my chauffeur to the beach :beachkids: ...not in the house, but still a biggie :)

:rrose: scented candles

:rrose: and more important than anything else....her attention, affection and love

And for her....I try to make her a home-cooked meal (when she lets me :) ), bake some brownies or cookies...and give her a massage.

:awww:

Ohhhhhh.....let's see...

I don't know that it was any different for a lady caller than it would have been or has been for guests in general.

I always started out by finding what she wanted to have in the house (bathroom products, drinks, breakfast items). I made sure she had access to whatever she needed in the bathroom and that clean, fresh towels and linens were ready.

I once read that having, for example, towels out and ready for the guest was a big way to show her that she was welcome (could be him or her, obviously).....a guest shouldn't have to ask for things such as towels, toothpaste, etc... It should all be easily accessible.

I would have an extra blanket in the room, water beside the bed, a couple different shampoos and soaps... I learned the hard way (getting shamed once by a lady) to make at least one drawer available, plus room in the closet.

Really, it's the same as I do for guests we have in our home today.

I remember........a gazillion years ago......that a lady came to visit me (local situation...just a day visit). My best friend roommate at the time waited a good amount of time before finally offering the girl something to drink.

Because I never did!!!

I sucked at that sort of thing and didn't know the first thing about being a host. I think I was about 22 or 23. That incident was seared in my mind forever, and I made sure I did what I could to be a good and welcoming host.

You're always at a disadvantage when not on your home turf, so it's really huge for the host to do every possible thing to make the guest feel at ease and welcome. ...whether the visit is for "romance" or friendship or family.

One of "your" comfy long sleeved, button up shirts that I can slip into after "you" leave for work early and I get to sleep in...

Or one that I get to slip on after I get out of the shower.... each must be lightly scented by "your" cologne.

...or you might use he... or she... depending on how your own personal construct theory runs.

I certainly use "he" for all butches... if they tell me that they prefer "she" I will use the title out of courtesy, but to me butch is "he", femme "she". This has held true for all of the butches and transguys I've known/dated, including those that identified as women. And in the case of the female identified butches I've known/dated, they understood and were comfortable with the fact that the "he" pronoun to me, and to them themselves in their interactions with me, honoured their butchness rather than their feminity.

Also not sure that we can assume that we know what the default pronoun is for all of the butches on this site.

Each to their own, diversity does make the world go round.

Cheers,

Ms V

Whichever you two prefer... Neither I nor the lady drink wine. We can put away some cookies though!!!
