Thank you Syr Damon and EntycingFemme for a grand gathering. It was a pleasure meeting ya'll and hopefully we can get together again. It was a booster shot of community I needed.
|
Many thanks to Syr Damon and EntycingFemme for inviting me into their home. I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. Great food, great company....for anyone wondering...I was a good boy and shared my nanner pudding with all who wanted some. Oh did I mention SD's some kinda bars......OMG.....I think it is a sin to make those things, not sure how bad the sin is to eat them.

hey folks
:) Can I just tell you what a fabulous time I had yesterday??? What a wonderful group of people you all are- I felt like I had known all of you my whole life, sappy maybe- but true none the less. I am now experiencing post get together withdrawls, and may or may not be pouting a little bit, with nobody left to cook for- (I may plead the fifth on that) and I also may have cried when SD left this morning. Damon and I were simply thrilled at having you all here. Hy THOROUGHLY enjoyed each of you, and is still laughing because we proved that Hy really does exist- seriously, how funny THAT conversation was, right? My mama just loved all of you, and my dad... lol- those of you who were out on the porch, well...... you know he liked ya ;) We are ready to do it again :) Anytime y'all get hungry for bbq and great conversation.... come knock on my door, ok? fabulous- all of you! thank you so much for coming xo Deanna |
i'm so glad to read that everything went so well, and y'all have no idea how much i wanted to be there!
hugs all around, rhonda |

I really want to thank you all for making Syr feel so welcome and the kiddo too. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...hankYou051.gif |
It's great to see you all had a wonderful time meeting up, makes an old man's heart happy!

i want to take a day trip up into the mountains, get some apples & boiled peanuts from the side of a road and just go "wow" at all the fall colors starting....

Growing up in Chicago, I never understood it. |

You eat them silly! They are sooo good! Especially bought from a roadside! Yuuummmmm!! |
Are boiled peanuts really just a southern thing?
i never know what is a cultural/regional thing and not enjoyed/available all over, usually. The thread about "where i'm from..." is so interesting to me, cause i just usually think how things are here is the same as how it is all over the US. i mean, i've traveled a tiny bit and understand the differences a little, but i guess it's the little things that i never think about... |

Wavin to everyone

OK here's my peanut story. My Pa was a cop and he'd come home in the middle of the night to check on Mom when she was pregnant with me, cuz my Daddy was over seas. The only thing she ever craved was boiled peanuts. Pa would go back out and pick her up a bag.
So of course it is hereditary that I LOVE  boiled peanuts. Mom swears she doesn't want any flowers on her grave, just a patch of peanut plants. When I met Pearls a few years back, she was a good sport and tried one. She said she didn't care for any more, thanks. I was like :| boiled peanuts are better then sex! :tease: She said well I don't know what kind of sex you've been having then. My fondest boiled peanut memories are of being a child and my Gigi would take me to the high school football games. Back in the day it was cold or at least cool during football season. She'd buy me a bag of warm boiled peanuts and let me at 'em. Finally she'd get tired of watching me waste so much of the "goody" because I didn't know how to open them properly she'd open them for me. The other thing about boiled peanuts is....:fart: Waves to Snowy, and yes rav I seem to forget that some things are regional also. |

I would try the boiled peanuts
I'd also spit them out of my mouth if I didn't like them You'd know for sure then if I didn't like them instead of me being polite about it, lol |
If I'm able to make the reunion next year I'll bring enough for everyone to try. Wolfy I might send you some when it cools off, they will sweat and sour if they get hot.

I'm sure if you can find them in NY they are not the same as good ole SC boiled peanuts. They have a brand in the convenience stores down here now and the first time I got them I thought OMG I hope someone passing thru doesn't try these and think this is what boiled peanuts really are like.
Cooking boiled peanuts is a science in itself. The best of the best are in Ga, SC, and NC. Right now my favorite P-nut guy is in Shelby. I stop every time I go to the mountains and have been known to ride up to Shelby just for the day to get his P-nuts. Quote:

i'd be interested in knowing where else they are eaten. Blade, i've done that too, taken off towards the mountains to find a road side vendor just to get peanuts! |

Rav just so you know I think I have 3 pounds in the fridge right now...think I'm going to get me a handful. I went to Shelby 2 Sundays ago and got some and went with Mom to visit Nannie last Sunday and we went to the flea market on HWY #1 in West Columbia and each got a big bag. And of course we stopped by Piggie Park BBQ
|
OMG! Fresh, hot, boiled peanuts! YUMMY!!! Being a good lil femme from Gawwwga and being raised during childhood in SC, Ive had my share of boiled peanuts! Everytime I go home, I load my trunk with canned Margaret Holmes' Reanut Patch boiled peanuts. They arent nearly as good as some, but living in NY, they are better than nothing. I couldnt find the large cans of them this last time, but I did get some boiled and frozen in my aunt's freezer!
|
I googled boiled peanuts and you can get them in the can only I don't think I would like them in a can, have to come down to the south and get the real ones!! Sound yummy
|
I bet I know where in Shelby you get those boiled peanuts Blade, is it a little stand on the right hand side of the road just before you enter Shelby itself? Those are awesome! You're right about the little convience stores and their barrel tho they'll do in a pinch, if you can stomach them! lol
|
Rats, the little stand on Hwy 74 that is.
|
Oh, man!
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC and Marietta, GA. I recently moved out of the south clear across country to LA and do I ever miss boiled peanuts! I used to take all those vendors hocking dollar bags of peanuts on the side of the road. I used to buy bushels of green peanuts and make pounds and pounds of boiled peanuts in a pressure cooker to freeze for the off season. Sigh. No green peanuts here! I wonder if I could have them shipped... Most outsiders are aghast at the notion of boiling peanuts until they are all soft and squishy and briny - and then popping the whole thing, shell-n-all, in your mouth to get it. Delicious! I've noticed that it's either a love or hate food. xosqueak, lovelovelove! |
Yep that's right! The old man died Thanksgiving 3 yrs ago but his son still does it on Th-Sun.

Well heck Blade, I didn't know he died. But it's a good thing his son took up the trade. I bet that old man made a ton of money at it and that's why he took it up, lol.
Oh and btw, go Vollllllllsssssssssssss!!! I go to Townsend, TN quite often, it's about 30 miles maybe outside of Knoxville and that's some orangeeee country there! |
