I walked 1/2 a mile today. Will probably take the dog on a walk with my partner later tonight.

Gemme 06-29-2014 06:15 PM

Fantastic workout this morning!

I seem to do well with hard workouts after a night of lost sleep. Not every time, certainly, but enough to notice a pattern. Interesting...

T33 was in a better mood though she still held back on me a little. I could tell. Random program again. Why? Because I bore easily and it naturally shakes thing up. Levels 3-20. Why? Because T33 was holding back and I kept upping the levels in order to feel the same 'work' that I typically do. 1 running interval @ 6.2 mph for 1.5 minutes. Why? Because that's all she gave me before I upped the levels too high to run.

Stats: 519 calories, 3.51 miles, 65:00 minutes

Why?

Because I'm freakin' awesome.

:weightlifter:

Also, I did a handful of reps on one of the ab machines. Nothing major but just enough to say that I did something.

Annnnnd.....I just came back from another Redbox jaunt, so that's another mile under my belt today.

Gemme 06-30-2014 11:27 AM

Excellent workout, day two!

I went to bed verrrrrry late/early so when my eyes popped open at 6:40something (even though I did NOT set the alarm), I had a stern talk with myself and it took some doing, but I finally nodded back off about half an hour later.

Wake up number two at 8:54 was far more successful but I did wind up having to drive back to the apartment since I forgot something important. Doh!

Finalllllly....I get to the gym and get situated and it's not bad at all. 10am is a fairly quiet time so I took advantage of it and did circuit training for the first 30-40 minutes. My left wrist has been hurting for the past several days so I haven't pushed anything with weights really hard but it felt better today and I kept checking in with myself so I think it will be okay. Just in case, I stopped at a sports store in the same plaza as my gym and picked up a wrist compression wrap that I can wear over my gloves and can switch sides if I overdo the right one. Got a discount for being a gym member too. Sweet!

I got 2 to 3 sets in at each station and did between 10 and 15 reps per set, depending on whether I was doing 2 15 rep sets or 3 10 rep sets. Breaking it down into smaller groups of reps makes it feel more doable. I split the ab stuff up too. The machine they have in the circuit room has two levels of rungs to put your feet and you set the weight and pull the bars forward above your head into a crunch/sit up. I do one set on the lower level of the rungs and then one set with my feet on the top rung and then I switch one of my feet, so that one is high and one is low. Then I'll do my last set with those feet switched so that the one that was low before is now high and vice versa.

T33 and I are on the mend. I think I figured it out. She missed the runs. I haven't been doing as many because I can burn the same amount of calories with higher incline and have less stress on my joints, but I think when we work together again I'll make more of an effort to get my running intervals in.

Random program, levels 3-14. 4 running intervals during the program at 6.0 mph for 60 seconds each and 1 more during the cool down, same speed and time.

Stats: 468 calories, 3.64 miles, 65:00 minutes

There's just a little over 50 calories' difference between yesterday and today's stats and I was at level 20 yesterday and level 14 today. Yeah, T33 was miffed at me yesterday. I could feel it. But things are looking up now!

Side note: my gym is stingy with the a/c. I pick where I work out based on where the fans are because that's the only moving air I get and even then, the fans are never on high like they should be. Not even when the place is packed. Today I felt warm pockets of air behind me, on my left. That's where a vent is. Throughout my workout, I felt a slight cool push of air from time to time from it but there were these pockets of warm air too. Not sure what's going on with their system or if anyone was messing with it, but if that keeps up it's going to make me sick. I have to have moving air on me when I work out otherwise I feel nauseated if I'm working hard. I miss the Y I went to in WA state. First, it was close enough to walk to. Second, their treadmills all had fans attached to each machine, so if you wanted/needed moving air, you could turn it on to your desired setting and be good. I really miss that.

They had a rowing machine too and I totally miss that. That was one of my favorite pieces of equipment. I got a great upper body and cardio workout and I didn't have to worry about injuring my wrists (ongoing issue; I have weak wrists) or pinching a nerve like I do with the shoulder presses.

ProfPacker 06-30-2014 11:29 AM

yesterday's exercise

I counting walking 2 miles in the NYC Pride Parade ad my exercise for yesterday.

What was totally awesome is that my exercise has paid off because although tired I was not sore last night or this morning

traumaqueen 06-30-2014 05:09 PM

Highlight of my new commute: 11 miles mostly along the river, at about 5am - lots of super cute bunnies!

Lowlight of my new commute: 11 miles mostly along the river, at about 5am - lots of homeless folks doing things to one another scaring said super cute bunnies!

Makes for a good cardio session, pedal faster!

Gemme 06-30-2014 05:58 PM

Tack on another mile for me. It wasn't a major effort but everything counts, right?

ProfPacker 06-30-2014 06:27 PM

was so tired when I left work today after all the queer celebrating lol. I wasn't going to the gym but my younger daughter said she was there so I swung on by. It was sooo hot and the water looked sooo inviting. I have been a wuss in swimming up until now, really had to build myself up so I was using fins and resistence gloves and swim paddles to assist me.

today I used nothing and for the first time swam 20 laps in the big pool. guess what? I relaxed exhausted no dragging exhausted and it felt great

Candelion 07-01-2014 08:57 AM

It's summer and it's Canada Day....

....today it will be all about swimming, waterskiing, an impromptu (okay, so I'm planning it) family baseball game. So happy!

GET OUTSIDE! THE GRAPHICS ARE AMAZING!!! :)

nycfem 07-01-2014 05:58 PM

Yesterday, leisurely 2 hour walk in the park. Today, 45 min. stairmaster, 20 min. weight lifting, and 25 minutes yoga and stretching.

Jill burped while on an Arc Trainer. I looked at her, and the man next to her looked at her. She giggled and said she was sorry. We both gave her a little smile and turned away.

Gemme 07-01-2014 07:45 PM

Quick one today!

T33 and I puttered along. It was a hard day at work so I took it easy on myself tonight.

Random program, levels 3-11. No running intervals.

Stats: 257 calories, 1.81 miles, 35 minutes

For the record, I don't think I've ever burped while working out.

However, I have tooted once or a hundred times. It's all that bouncing around and jarring motion. It shakes it loose.

Luckily for myself and everyone around me, they tend to be methane-free.

:fart:

traumaqueen 07-02-2014 04:24 AM

I burp a lot when I run or do strenuous hikes...it's likely all the breathing and excessive intake of air. But I prefer blaming the altitude... Maybe I just have no manners.

Rockinonahigh 07-02-2014 11:12 AM

Burping is a reaction of two things, one is from what we eat or drink that forms a gas that we just have two ways of getting rid of,the other is from air that gets into the stomach when we breath while doing things that include breathing deeper and faster than normal from a gulping reflex as in working out or being active.I have this problem that is a pain in the ass when I am around people. My Doctor told me to use something called gas X chew tablets, they work great and do taste good to boot.I can't tell you how many times I have bent over the pool table to make a shot that I had to burp first..the pills are god send.

July Plan

I've been a bit lazy the past month, enjoying the unusually warm and sunny British weather with the customary over indulgence of BBQ's :eatinghersheybar: So I've started a major healthy eating and exercise regime. Cycled 15 miles today and plan to do this everyday and now I'm off to pilates class so guaranteed to be sore tomorrow :-( no pain no gain as they say! :seeingstars:

ProfPacker 07-02-2014 01:01 PM

I decided to swim before work today when it was cool: 9:30 AM: 82 degrees, lol

Monday I swam 20 laps in big pool, today I swam 22 laps. working my way up to 33 laps, a mile again

bobbi46 07-02-2014 02:16 PM

little slower in the heat but after a nice cool shower i feel awesome .
enjoy your day:)

nycfem 07-02-2014 06:51 PM

Today I did 30 minutes on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals), 15 minutes of weight lifting, and 15 minutes of stretching.

When I walked out of the gym, it was raining hard. The woman walking out behind me said indignantly, "Was this supposed to happen?" Rain had indeed been predicted but the question felt a bit entitled to me, and I decided to let it stand and be on my way.

DapperButch 07-02-2014 08:41 PM

45 minutes on eliptical. The "Totel Body" workout which I really l like. I busted some ass on that thing today. If the weather holds up, we are going kayaking tomorrow.

Gemme 07-02-2014 08:51 PM

T33 was in a snit tonight. Reeeeally wanted me to run. Kept giving me long stretches of minimal incline. I finally gave in and did one interval but she kept doing it the whole time. Cost me a bunch of calories but I was annoyed before I hopped on the treadmill so I can't fuss too much.

The pants I was wearing were uncomfortable but I didn't realize this until I was already at the gym. No way I was going home to change because I never would have left to come back out.

I felt off today and really didn't want to go to the gym but I had to go to the plaza anyway so there was no good excuse not to go. It was an okay workout but between my pants and thinking about a couple of entitled snotty customers, I couldn't really focus on me and getting my sweat on. Kind of a bleh day.

Stats: 215 calories, 1.82 miles, 35:00 minutes

Rockinonahigh 07-03-2014 04:21 AM

I did a lot of walking yesterday, so it has to count for something.

Charmingbutch21 07-03-2014 06:51 AM

Yestrday: 2 hours of softball practice. I love evening practices. The sweat and burn feel a little more justified :baseball:

cinnamongrrl 07-03-2014 06:55 AM

I have just been doing my step workout with weights while I watch tv twice a day for 45min to an hour. As much as I love yoga, I think I need an intermediate version. I got bored with my dvd...it happens.

I thought working out with the heat and humidity of late would be difficult....but....I figure Im sweating any way...so...why not sweat with purpose?? :)

Gemme 07-03-2014 10:13 AM

Soooo, I forgot my notebook that I tally my workout information in. Okay. I found some paper and a pen. Problem solved.

I also forgot an envelope that I needed to mail for work. That's a bit of a problem. I stopped at the bank but had to come back to the office and get the envelope and get it prepped to go out. Luckily, it looks like the mail is running late today. If I'm wrong and we just didn't get anything (pretty damn impossible this time of the month for my work), then I'll have to run the envelope down to the post office after my shower. It has to go out today, so whatever it takes to make it happen is what needs to happen.

I'm telling you this because this is my mindset when I got to the gym. It was one "Crap!" after another. Sounds like I was setting myself up for another less than stellar workout, huh? I woke up at 5:46 this morning and said 'oh, HELL no!' to myself and got myself back to sleep for another 2 hours. That is what did it, I think. If I didn't get those extra zzzzz's, I bet it would have been a miserable workout but I did and it wasn't, so there.

I did a smidge over 30 minutes of circuit training, abs included, and then moved onto T33. She remembered last night and was stingy with her 0.0 inclines, which is what I do my intervals on. I took advantage of a 30 seconder, which is frustrating because by the time you get accelerated to the correct speed, you only get 10-15 seconds of straight running before you have to start decelerating but I think that helped and I also took another minute and a half interval, which was nice even though it wasn't 0.0 incline.

I knew I wouldn't have too many intervals since I was regularly bumping up the levels and once you get past level 7, there's no such thing as 0.0 intervals. None. Nada. Nihil.

During the cooldown, I took advantage and got another minute and a half interval in, which was nice. It helped push me over my goal and that made me happy.

All in all, despite a rough start, it was a most excellent workout. Random program, levels 3-16.

1 running interval for 30 seconds at 6.0 mph, 0.0 incline.
1 running interval for 90 seconds at 6.0 mph, 1.5 incline.
1 running interval for 90 seconds at 6.0 mph, 1.0 incline.

Stats: 502 calories, 3.64 miles, 65:00 minutes.

I wrote this truly inspirational post and then the power blew out and then I had to go into work for a little bit to counteract the damage and then I came back and it said I could restore my page and I was like 'cool!' and it restored and I finished the post (it was most excellent, I assure you) and then I copied it just in case something happened and then something happened and when I pulled up a new post and went to paste it, it wasn't there to be pasted.

*breath*

Gone.

Poof.

C'est la vie.

Happy July 4th, regardless!

I've found some independence from negative thought lately. With each and every workout, I extricate myself bit by bit from my self-imposed judgments and criticisms as well as societal demands placed on females and especially females that are aging, as I am. I'm trying damn hard to fight gravity but also to give myself credit when I should. My body's doing what it's supposed to do. I just want to nudge it in a direction that will allow it to do what it's doing but more on my terms than those of gravity alone.

My workouts won't change the world, but they change my world and that's pretty damn awesome for me. A good ole endorphin rush can do wonders for my psyche and after a few months of regular weight workouts, I'll probably be a little less lumpy, which sounds exciting. Gives me something to look forward to.

Happy Independence Day, everyone!

Gemme 07-04-2014 12:16 PM

Today was a really good workout.

I started with circuit training again. You're really not supposed to train the same muscles back to back days but I went super light today and I wanted to see how it would affect my performance. I also added 3 machines. Hip ab- and adductor and back extensions. I'm doing well enough with my chiro appointments that I felt comfortable using it. Probably 40 minutes.

T33 was busy so I went down the line to T27. Random program, levels 3-15.

Running intervals:

.4 incline for 90 seconds @ 6.0 mph
0.0 incline for 60 seconds @ 6.0 mph
0.0 incline for 60 seconds @ 6.0 mph
1.5 incline for 90 seconds @ 6.0 mph

Stats: 485 calories, 3.61 miles, 65:00 minutes

This was definitely a hard workout. They may have something with that whole 'no back to back weight workouts' thing.

nycfem 07-04-2014 02:57 PM

Today my gym was closed. They close on too many holidays. I couldn't walk in the park because there was to be thunderstorms. I thought I might go stir crazy, until I thought to call my dad who is out of town and ask if he could talk to his gym about letting me be a guest today. Score! I did an hour on the Stair Master while watching a few episodes of Season 3 of Girls and then an hour of floor exercises, weight lifting, and stretching.

CyberStud 07-04-2014 03:17 PM

Just 21 Days........

Well according to experts it take 21 days to form a habit...good or bad! So day 2 of trying to reform those good habits which were lost the moment summer decided reared its sunny head and blind me with copious food and unhealthy beer distractions.
One thing is for sure, exercise was easier during the long cold winter months and fitness is soooo easy to lose, yet hard to gain back! But with perseverance these goals can be achieved and in 19 mores days this ordeal will feel more enjoyable again.
Anyway, I started the day with some gentle morning yoga followed by 45min spin class...feel the burn..Oh Yes, I sure did!
After work, I went indoor rock-climbing for an hour but that felt more like fun than exercise so don't know if that counts. I'll make up for it tomorrow with a resistance band workout and more cycling.

Keep up the good work folks &
:goodluck:

Today is a 'down' day, mostly ... we need to stain our deck but I'm hoping the threat of rain will put a stop to that this weekend. :|

Yesterday, we did an epic 6 hour return bike trip from home in Breckenridge to Vail. Thanks to a great bike path system you can actually cycle up and down the east and west sides of Vail Pass. Awesome day, which I'm seriously feeling today. My girlfriend does more endurance cycling so this 80 miles was nothing for her. I, on the other hand, tend to be more of a commuter cyclist... climbing up Vail Pass is no joke! But the downhill is most excellent!!

Gemme 07-05-2014 06:05 PM

I've declared today an off day. It started very difficult and only slightly got easier by the end.

I'll have a good, long workout tomorrow so it will be okay.

nycfem 07-05-2014 06:15 PM

I did an hour on the Stairmaster (45/50 intervals), followed by a combined hour of weight lifting, yoga, and floor exercises.

I listened to Jeanine, a trainer, and her frequent client, Diane, for the duration of their session. Jeanine challenges Diane, and Diane gets snappy about it because she doesn't like change. I like how Jeanine could simply put Diane through her paces the way Diane wants but instead she deals with Diane's push-back and makes her learn new things and get things right. One day after a session between them that I unfortunately missed, Jeanine said, "I want to apologize for how I made you feel during the last session." Diane said, "No it was me. I was a bitch." Jeanine said, "I wouldn't go that far." Diane said, "No, it's true. I just don't like change." It's a little like sitting in on a therapy session!

The Tour De France Effect...

I also had a day off yesterday from anything too strenuous, all in preparation for today's Sunday cycle with my local LGBT cycle group. A 30 mile trip is planned so I done some intense stretches this morning to avoid any soreness later. :fastcycling:

Three more softball games today. Won 2 and lost 1. Came in 6th place in the tournament. Worn out. Nasty. Got skinned knees too! The weekend was a success! Now I just need a femme to cuddle with on the couch. :4femme:

If anyone wondered where the sexy went, wonder no more.

I found it.

:weightlifter:

Apparently, I needed Saturday off. I thought it was a logical and lazy decision but this morning was the first morning in I don't know how long that my thighs and hips didn't feel a stretch and I didn't feel the work I'd done the day before. I lounged around in bed and eased myself into the day.

I worked hard at work and outside it was a bit warm. The day was busy but not unmanageable.

I went to the gym though I had to bully myself into it. I bribed myself with my new fancy spandex workout outfit and promised myself I wouldn't have to do weights but I did bring my gloves and wrist wrap just in case I changed my mind (but I didn't).

Maybe it was the fact that there were only 20 people in the gym or that the fans were actually on a speed faster than slow or maybe it was my new, skin baring top but I finally felt comfortable, temperature-wise. I decided to work with, instead of against, T33 and found myself doing several running intervals and keeping my incline levels down. I still eked out a very respectable workout.

Random program, levels 3-10.

Running intervals:

5~ 60 second intervals @ 6.0mph and 0.0 incline
4~ 60 second intervals @ 6.0mph and 1.5 incline

Stats: 455 calories, 3.81 miles, 65:00 minutes

I got in 5-6 minutes of ab work as well.

When I was done and in the locker room, I saw my reflection in the mirror and I looked good. I had that sheen of perspiration that I find attractive. Kind of dewy and glowing. I liked it!

It twas a good, good day.

CyberStud 07-07-2014 03:26 AM

Tabata

Due to time restraints today, I'm incorporation a Tabata routine into my exercise regime. For those who are not familiar with this beautiful lung bursting event, its a high-intensity interval training done in 4 minutes and is NOT recommended for the faint hearted! I chose burpees for a total body workout punishment and it was HELL..so taking the rest of the day off...guilty free!!!

ProfPacker 07-07-2014 07:47 AM

Last night, at home, I did 100 crunches and some stretching. This is on top of my swimming yesterday. Abs feeling tight
