Miles Davis - New Blues
This was part of Miles' repetoire when he returned to creating music in the 80s after taking a needed break. People wanted him to play old-timey jazz (his words) and he was not here for that. He didn't want any part of looking in that rear-view mirror. I didn't like it, but I got it. This song was letting us know he still had the blues (and jazz), but just from a different view. Musicians on Miles Davis, Live in Germany 1988 (Munich Philharmonic Concert Hall) Miles Davis – trumpet, Kenny Garrett – saxophone Bobby Irving – keyboards Adam Holzman – keyboards Joseph "Foley" McCreary – guitar Benjamin Rietveld – bass Marilyn Mazur – percussion Ricky Wellman – drums |
Are you spinning in a lie that keeps on telling you That you're not good enough When you're looking in the mirror Do you see someone impossible to love? Full of fragile broken pieces We're all rough around the edges We ain't perfect no We ain't even close We got holes in our hearts We got scars we don't show But all that baggage we Keep on dragging around Anytime we start laying it down Lay it down at the foot of the cross Give it to the one who can carry it all Even at our worst, to him we ain't lost causes Just beautiful messes We're all David's we're all Mary's We've been liars, thieves and everything between But don't forget God used the misfits just like us To do the most amazing things So bring your faults, your flaws, your secrets And watch him use those broken pieces 'Cause we ain't perfect no We ain't even close We got holes in our hearts We got scars we don't show But all that baggage we Keep on dragging around Anytime we start laying it down Lay it down at the foot of the cross Give it to the one who can carry it all Even at our worst, to him we ain't lost causes Just beautiful messes No matter where you are right now Let thy grace come pouring down It won't run out, it won't run out We ain't perfect no We ain't even close We got holes in our hearts We got scars we don't show But all that baggage we Keep on dragging around Anytime we start laying it down Lay it down at the foot of the cross Give it to the one who can carry it all Even at our worst, to him we ain't lose causes Ooh lay it down at the foot of the cross Give it to the one who can carry it all Even at our worst, to him we ain't lost causes Just beautiful messes Beautiful messes, yeah Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Ben Glover / Connie Harrington / Hillary Scott Beautiful Messes lyrics © Capitol CMG Publishing, Warner Chappell Music, Inc |

Miles Davis Quintet - ’Round Midnight
One of the things I love most about jazz is a musician’s refusal to play the same song the same way more than once. They just won’t do it and the world is a better place for it. |

Ike Quebec - Blues for Charlie on Blue Note
Ike Quebec, sax player, is one of the first musicians signed onto the Blue Note label by Alfred Lion. I love Blue Note. They’re one of the few record companies that didn’t rip off their artists. Lion wasn’t known for taking undeserved writing credits like Berry at Motown and what’s-his-face at Chess Records. Blue Note also didn’t take advantage of their female artists like Berry at Motown and whats-his-face at Chess and so many others. Grant Green wrote this song and is the guitarist on this album. I think the “Charlie” in this title is for Charlie Christian, another guitar player, who influenced Grant Green, not Charlie Parker as many people mistakenly believe. |
Written by the late, great Kenny Rogers
Sweet Music Man -- Performed by Dolly Parton and "Allison" (I wouldn't listen and I couldn't see And all I have left now are words you said to me,) Sing your song sweet music man, 'cos I won't be there to hold your hand like I used to, I'm thro' with you. You're a hell of a singer and a powerful man But you surround yourself With people who demand so little of you. You touched my soul with your beautiful song, You even had me singing along right with you, You said I need you. Then you changed the words and added harmony And you sang the song you had written for me To someone new. But nobody sings a love song quite like you do And nobody else could make me sing along And nobody else could make me feel That things are right when you know they're wrong (that things are right when you're wrong with the song) Nobody sings a love song quite like you. Sing your song sweet music man You travel the world with a six piece band That does for you what you ask 'em to. And you try to stay young But the songs you've sung to so many people They've all begun to come back on you. So sing your song sweet music man, You're making your living doing one night stands, That prove to you they don't need you. You're still a hell of a singer but a broken man, But you're keep on looking for one last fan To sing 'em to. But nobody sings... So sing your song sweet music man I believe in you... ~RIP Kenny~ ~Theo~ :winky::heartbeat::listening::bouquet: |
