Just fabulous.

The Conjugation of the Paramecium
by Muriel Rukeyser

This has nothing
to do with
propagating

The species
is continued
as so many are
(among the smaller creatures)
by fission

(and this species
is very small
next in order to
the amoeba, the beginning one)

The paramecium
achieves, then,
immortality
by dividing

But when
the paramecium
desires renewal
strength another joy
this is what
the paramecium does:

The paramecium
lies down beside
another paramecium

Slowly inexplicably
the exchange
takes place
in which
some bits
of the nucleus of each
are exchanged

for some bits
of the nucleus
of the other

This is called
the conjugation of the paramecium.

Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. And this is all life really means. ~Robert Louis Stevenson

I'd make a million trips to his lips if I were a bee because he's sweeter than sugar candy to me.

“Who are you to judge the life I live?
I know I'm not perfect

but before you start pointing fingers...
make sure you hands are clean!”

On this Anniversary of Historic Importance

Elie Wiesel on the Freeing of the Nazi Death Camps

That day I encountered the first American soldiers
in the Buchenwald concentration camp.
I remember them well.
Bewildered, disbelieving, they walked around the place,
hell on earth,
where our destiny had been played out.
They looked at us,
just liberated,
and did not know what to do or say.
Survivors snatched from the dark throes of death,
we were empty of all hope—
too weak, too emaciated to hug them or even speak to them.
Like lost children, the American soldiers wept and wept with rage and sadness.
And we received their tears as if they were heartrending offerings
from a wounded and generous humanity.

One night I had a wonderous dream, One set of foot prints there was seen, The footprints of my precious Lord, But mine were not along the shore.

But then some stranger prints appeared, And I asked the Lord,"What have we here?" Those prints are large and round and neat. But Lord, the are to big for feet. "My child," He said in somber tones, "For miles I carried you alone I challenged you to walk in faith, But you refused and made me wait." "You disobeyed, you would not grow, The walk of faith, you would not know, So I got tired, I got fed up, And there I dropped you on your butt." "Because in life, there comes a time, When one must fight, and one must climb, When one must rise and take a stand, Or leave their butt prints in the sand."

Have a great week end Folks!

Don't walk behind me; I may not lead.
Just walk beside me and be my friend."

Wow! Powerful and heart-wrenching...

Heathcliff to Cathy responding to Cathy's comment that her husband loved her:

"If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a lifetime, he couldn't love you half as much as I love you in a single day!"

Sonnet XCV

Whoever desired each other as we do? Let us look
For the ancient ashes of hearts that burned,
And let our kisses touch there, one by one,
Till the flower, disembodied, rises again.

Let us love that Desire that consumed its own fruit
And went down, aspect and power, into the earth:
We are its continuing light,
Its indestructible, fragile seed.

-- Neruda

This is moving and powerful, heartwrenching. I love this. Even though it leaves a lump in my throat and an ache in my heart.

I need a new quote

My profile quote no longer fits. It spoke to me for many years.

My shell has cracked and my icy heart has melted...must find new one that speaks to me of rebirth.

".. Take me...whose shell must be cracked, whose heart is ice, who needs your heat" ~Dorothy Allison
