After taxes, that's about $100 million left over.

Let's pretend that we're building a compound on about 400 acres just north of where we currently live. :)

Would you want to live on a BFP compound?
What skills can you contribute?
Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"?
Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal?
Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long?
What pro's and con's can you see to this idea?
What input do you have?

Let's speak it into the Universe!

First of all, congrats and thanks for thinking of us!

To answer your questions:

Yes, I would live in the compound.

I can supervise!

Maybe not every night. Maybe every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Yes to paying your own way, or at least part. Wolfy's idea of full time on the farm equalling someone paying is okay with me.

I think that there'd be the usual squabbles that occur within familial units and the cycle of make ups and break ups, but there's nothing that would happen that we haven't seen and/or gone through before, I don't think. I think that I would get tired of some of you, but then, that's not unusual for me. I get tired of everyone once in a while. I have occasional flare ups of hermititis.

Pros: a community where we can discuss topics that affect our community without more 'wtf' looks than 'aha' looks...regular femme clothing swaps...cooking and crafting in person with my sisters and brothers....being acknowledged for the pretty pretty princess that I am. :eyebat:

Cons: as someone mentioned, I think there should be an application process of some sort so that any folks that intend to cause trauma/drama and/or shit stir don't settle in too nicely. Other than that, I'm drawing a blank right now.

I want community meetings, very clear guidelines and by laws of what is and is not acceptable, accountability for one's actions, a ginormous swimming pool and jacuzzi, a gym that has the typical gym equipment plus a court for basketball or whatever, holiday events, rotating chores, giant deep freezers, a small old timey candy shop and general store, giant community garden that those who have green thumbs can administer to, a farm stocked with rescued animals, a place for all religions/beliefs to worship at, a school (maybe Sunshine could teach the kids that are home schooled? Blush too, when she visits.), counselors, folks to come in and teach workshops, and so much more!

BINGOOOOOOOOO!

Ebon's fantastic at techie stuff but he's not being honest. He hates people most of the time.

I could teach the kiddies :)

Would there be the option of having meals alone if wanted? I wouldn't want just a cabin with beds and one mess hall, like Girl Scout camp.

What about relatives and friends, would they be allowed to visit on the premises?

Who would be in charge, and how selected? Would these people end up like a "higher tier" of resident, with all the power? Would there be "term limits"?

How would the rules of the community be decided? What if there was an objection?

Communal living in a kind of utopia always sounds good on paper, but hasn't worked in reality. And maybe I shouldn't post, as I'm crabby ;).

Good questions. I understand that it would be more like a suburb and less like Waco, for example, but I would prefer that we adhere to a general rule of not having outside company over after a certain and/or maintaining a noise ordinance.

Democracy rules, I say.

I like Zombie Lane better, but I'm finicky.

Butch Boulevard?
Wisteria Lane?
Lovers' Loop?

Cuz you know we need a makeout point.

That is the neighborly way!

Or we could have decorative door knockers that we put out when we DON'T want company.

One of my favorite restaurants EVER had their own brewery on the property. I'm not a beer drinker, but they made their own ginger ale and rootbeer there too.

Would you want to live on a BFP compound?
I think that'd be kick-ass - or full of some serious mad drama - or both... probably both. LOL

What skills can you contribute?
Well, Sparx bakes awesome artisan bread, and is there a body-positive Yoga Teacher in the house yet? I could rock that. Sounds like there's some psychic services in the works - I can read some tarot too. I think I have other skillz, but I have to think about them. lol.

Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"?
Could be fun - but shouldn't be mandatory. Sometimes I need time just with my little family.

Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal?
I think communities like this CAN be self-sustaining reducing or almost eliminating the need for money but that really depends how it's set up and if all the communities needs can be met by its members.

Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long?
I think that it depends on the relationships and the energy of the place. Self-sustaining barter, trade and work-based communities have totally different energy than a regular mainstream style living situation. I'd like to think there's a different level of personal responsibility when the entire community relies on each other to be successful - and a different investment in working things out when there are problems.

Can there be a kink-hall, pls? Thanks! :) hee hee.

<---no longer owns horses but does still have kid, cats and guns. (I'm from the south y'all. My rifles, bows, and fishing poles go where I go.) I'd prefer to have my lil spot off in a far corner if I'm there. I'm a bit reclusive and am not really a fan of neighbors. I can only handle people in small doses, hence why I am not a city girl. I really like the idea of being with community though. Oh, and I too can garden, farm, build shit and bake shit. That's about it though lol

Coach Stappie would LOVE to get some kickball games going on a Saturday afternoon! How fun would that be?!

AMEN. Give me a workshop where I can cut shit up and weld it back together. I will be a happy guy.

realistically speaking with the logistics of animals/buildings/pond/rec areas we would need bout 1000 acres not just 400 (yes I drew it out on graph paper)
Would you want to live on a BFP compound?would want to live no where else!
What skills can you contribute? you name it...from ground clearing to daily fixes...building, security, logistics, & whatever is needed in between
Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"?not every night....maybe a cpl times a week
Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal? for sure..we will need supplies & I would hate to see the electric bill
Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long? that is what separate housing is for...our community family is loving & understanding & I don't have to worry bout gettin beaten every day...awesome!

Definitely! We'd have to have a quiet section, a family section for those with kids, a clean and sober, a gardening, etc.

WEE!

Stacy 10-24-2011 03:55 AM

I'd love to live on the compound and take pictures, and drink beer, and create art, and hang twinkly lights around my hut/tent/cardboard box...whatever :)

Nat 10-24-2011 06:21 AM

I want to live in the yard-art-is-okay section :)

Medusa 10-24-2011 06:23 AM

If we win that much in the lottery, I want to live in the section where my tiger-fur-covered escalator that goes up to my bedazzled front door won't be considered "tacky" :P

The_Lady_Snow 10-24-2011 06:40 AM

RAWR

This will be a matriarch run society yes????

princessbelle 10-24-2011 07:03 AM

Horray for all the twinkle lights, yard art and glitter doors.

They may be able to see us from the moon.

JustJo 10-24-2011 07:05 AM

We need to be near a beach...

If there is a "sometimes grumpy and I need my own space" section, then yes....and I come with a teenage boy, a small dog and 3 cats.

Good internet is a must since I would keep my job and work from home.

I bake good chocolate chip cookies...and, yes, I can bake enough for everyone. In fact, I bake everything from scratch....bread, cakes, pies, cookies. Large numbers of people would give me an excuse to make Lamingtons. :)

I also cook, even for large groups....so I can help there.

I also have raised cattle, worked on a dairy, raised and trained horses, and kept a variety of goats, rabbits and chickens. However, I'm diabetic, get exhausted easily and have carpal tunnel badly enough that I can't grip or turn things well....so my "labor" ability is limited.

I am turning into a kick ass "pool girl" though....so I can maintain the swimming pool.

And, I'm a project manager with an MBA by trade, so... if you're serious, I'll help with the planning. :)

ETA: Tarantulas??? Oh hell no! I don't do spiders anytime....but giant spiders with hair? No. Just no.
I vote we do this is South Florida. It's already diverse. It's warm. It's gay friendly. It's near the beach. And real estate is dirt cheap right now.
