The Wrecking Crew (2008) Documentary, Music

A celebration of the musical work of a group of session musicians known as "The Wrecking Crew", a band that provided back-up instrumentals to such legendary recording artists as Sonny and Cher, The Beach Boys, Mama and Papas, Tina Sinatra, Herb Albert, and many more! If you remember these artists you'll enjoy this movie! For you who don't, excellent history lesson:movieguy:

Gemme 03-22-2015 06:54 PM

I saw this today.

It's very well done and, if you look past the action part, has some pretty deep universal questions and answers.

C0LLETTE 03-22-2015 07:14 PM

I just saw " Wild Tales" ...an Argentinian film that I totally LOVED and can't recommend highly enough. A black comedy that really does work. Just loved every minute of it.

Cailin 03-22-2015 07:45 PM

just realized I cannot remember.. Its amazing how getting an education robs you of your memory and blends all your days together

I am hoping for a Hobbit & Lord of the Rings marathon soon

Decided to browse Netflix over the weekend and found this -

Good flick.

love the wedding dance

Gemme 03-27-2015 05:33 PM

I saw Home.

It has a good message but a lot of the funny bits are already in the trailer. It got really good at the end even though I saw it coming. All in all, it's a very good movie. Shorter than I thought it would be but good.

Finding Neverland

This charming account of a period in the life of author J.M. Barrie (Johnny Depp) reveals the real relationships and events that served as the basis for the author's most iconic work, "Peter Pan." After Barrie develops a platonic relationship with the widowed Sylvia (Kate Winslet) and her four sons, he is inspired to write a play about a group of children who don't want to grow up. The work proves a hit and winds up bringing Barrie and the children together in a way he had never expected.

(Saw this before and it never grows old to me - just a movie I could watch over and over)

Perfume - The Story of a Murderer

With his incredible talent for discerning scents, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) is one of 18th-century France's finest perfumers. He becomes obsessed with capturing an elusive aroma: the scent of young womanhood. His search takes a deadly turn, and when the bodies of 12 young females are found, panic breaks out, with families rushing to lock up their daughters.

This movie was disturbingly good - also stars Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Hurd- Wood, Alan Rickman, and Karoline Herfurth

Not exactly a cinephile's dream but entertaining; in a scary, bloody, zombie, kind of way:

Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead.

An Australian movie.

:zombie:

Gemme 03-28-2015 05:04 AM

It looked like it had a lot of humor in it too, Anya. I might have to look that one up.

I got in one more movie before calling it a night last night.

It was better than I expected it to be and I was happy with the ending.

It actually is pretty humorous!

The off-beat, tongue-in-cheek humor, reminded me of Shawn of the Dead but with Aussie accents instead of Brits.

randrum 03-28-2015 11:44 AM

I bought this yesterday:

So I watched An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug then followed it up with The Battle of the Five Armies.

On Netflix:

Inspiring story of transgender former Navy Seal Kristin Beck:

Lady Valor: The Kristin Beck Story, former U.S. Navy SEAL Christopher Beck embarks on a new mission as Kristin Beck. Kristin's journey in search of the American ideals that she protected have a whole new meaning as she lives her life truthfully as a transgender woman.

Kristin served for over 20 years as a member of the elite special forces Navy SEALs on SEAL Team 1 as well as the United States Special Warfare Development Group – what many in the public refer to as SEAL Team 6. She retired in 2011 with the rank of Senior Chief and continued high-level clearance work for the United States government and the Pentagon.

Kristin hid her true identity throughout and after her service knowing she would lose it all if anyone were to know her secret. In 2013, a year and a half after retirement, Kristin came out publicly first on LinkedIn and on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360.

Just got back from seeing Kingsman, it was a good movie, no blood everybody's head just popped off into multicolored clouds..great soundtrack..great company, with popcorn to spare :cheer:

Gemme 03-30-2015 02:18 PM

I did something different today. Our local cinema plays a silver screen classic every Monday at 1pm. They charge $2 per person and admission includes a tiny drink and popcorn. It's really cute.

I went today for the first time and even though one guy left his cell phone on but couldn't hear it going off in the middle of the movie and another guy woke himself up with his own snoring and yet another person coughed up half a lung during the movie, I actually enjoyed it. Clearly it's a tightknit group as they knew all of one another's names and mentioned when one guy was late. Turns out he was in Boston traffic 2 hours before the movie and nearly ran his car into the ground to get there. I talked with a couple while we were in line for the goodies and they seemed really nice. I won't get the opportunity to go every week but I think I'll be able to swing once or twice a month. The movie was good (despite the racism and sexism that came with 1949) and the experience was fun. I love horse movies and especially ones based on real horses. :)

I had these two movies on yesterday whilst doing chores and housework.

You know the story and who doesn't love a good rendition of I Need a Hero?

You think you know the story but do you really? I loved this movie and was happy to find it in a sale bin.

homoe 04-01-2015 05:40 PM

Last night I got around to finally seeing Imitation Games and while I liked it well enough, I wished it had not jumped back and forth as much! I wished they had focused more in a direct time line fashion! Otherwise I thought it was a very interesting movie:movieguy:

visually gorgeous, emotionally heartbreaking.

Gemme 04-05-2015 10:21 AM

I saw this on Good Friday.

The movie was about 85% done when Paul Walker passed away. I can see some of the band aids that they did and I don't know what the original ending was but they really did a nice job of tying it all together. I liked the soundtrack too. I enjoyed it.

Tonight, it's a double feature of The Giver and Hector and the Search for Happiness. I'll let you know how they go.

Leigh 04-05-2015 12:05 PM

Last movie I saw in theatres was Big Hero 6 - it was a really good movie :)

Gemme 04-05-2015 05:18 PM

The Giver. The disc was really scarred so it skipped like crazy. Apparently, Tay Tay was in it but I didn't see her at all so it must have skipped over her screen time. I lost about 20-30 minutes so I'll be renting it again to fill in the blanks. What I did see was good. Good enough for me to go back later and re-rent it.

The other movie, however, has just tied for my favorite movie ever. I loved it.

Love.

It.

homoe 04-09-2015 05:25 PM

Last night we watched Most Violent Year and I must say except for the outstanding actress Jessica Chastain ,who I find wonderful and owns any roles she takes on, it was a bit of a disappointment!:movieguy:

MrSunshine 04-09-2015 05:34 PM

"You're not you"

So fucking good!

Gemme 04-09-2015 05:35 PM

I watched this Tuesday night.

I am a bit nostalgic for Paul Walker. The movie was good.

Final Prayer

4 out of 5 stars

A team of Vatican investigators descends upon a church in a remote area to demystify the unusual happenings, but what they discover is more disturbing than they had first imagined.

homoe 04-12-2015 12:34 PM

Interesting little movie...

Last night I just happened upon a movie I hadn't heard much about. I'm not sure if it's fact based that the french are allowed to have affairs outside of their marriages but this movie is so much more than simply that!

5 to 7 is about an aspiring novelist entering into a relationship with a woman, though there's just one catch: She's married, and the couple can only meet between the hours of 5 and 7 each evening! If your a fan of a good love story and enjoy how sometimes fate and chance meetings plays into our life, by all means check this movie out, I don't think you'll be disappointed:movieguy:

Fancy 04-13-2015 12:28 PM

Effie Gray (2014).

Loved the cinematography, and the words unspoken in the dialog. Sometimes less truly is more.

Gemme 04-15-2015 07:11 PM

I saw this at the theatre.

I took this from Redbox.

Big Eyes was excellent as expected and Get Hard was inappropriately funny, as expected.

Talon 04-17-2015 08:57 AM

I liked it....

cinnamongrrl 04-17-2015 07:04 PM

I unpacked some mote stuff and found The Last Unicorn. So I watched it...

As a kid, I never realized how rudimentary the animation was.. but I love it just the same :)

Orema 04-19-2015 09:54 AM

Girlhood. 2003 film, not the 2014 film.

It was difficult to watch and it's heartbreakingly sad, but it was good.

Gemme 04-19-2015 11:49 AM

I watched Love is Strange last night and even though John Lithgow and Alfred Molina were excellent I was surprisingly let down by the rest of the cast and the movie itself. It felt stilted and didn't even directly address a major twist.

This prompted me to find out more about the movie because I did not know anything about it. It got 51% rating from movie viewers at Rotten Tomatoes and on their site, this info about the movie.
