Oooops. Spelling snafu. Pus. From cysts that form in the udders as a result of mastitis. The farmers give the cows growth horomones and they cows get milked lots and they are most often pregnant and between the pregnancies and the milking, some cows get infections. There are actually rules defining how much can and cannot get in the milk for it to still be accepted and shipped out.

I found this on Google Answers.

Now, as for the “pus” finding its way into the milk ---

The milk collected from the cows is stored on the farm in a bulk tank.
The dairy farmer and inspectors routinely check this milk for
contamination before it is shipped out to be pasteurized for sale. If
it does not pass the test, it does not go out!

The contamination of the milk is measured in terms of the SCC –

“The SCC amount is the Somatic Cell Counts (number of white blood
cells …Leukocytes) per milliliter of milk (SCC/ml). A dairy industry
rule of thumb states that cows measuring less than 200,000 SCC/ml of
milk are considered healthy or not significantly infected with
mastitis. Cows measuring over 200,000 SCC/ml are considered infected
cows.”

That was the PER COW level. The BULK MILK level regulation is:

“Beginning July 1, 1993, the SCC level in milk quality regulations
must be less than 750,000 SCC to comply with the State and Federal
Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. A violation of the PMO makes the milk
non-marketable.”

June has one more thing in common with Corkey
the fan thing, it has to be on
I have adjusted:blink:

I love HK
I love handmade things
I always carry a tote bag
I would find it very amusing if I won the HK raffle (do you have to be there to win?) without being there.
I love HK

Pixie 05-28-2011 09:58 PM

1- I am tempted to win the HK prize to have said threat be carried out :P
2- Even though I will give it to Daddy June afterwards anyway
3- No milk no cream....no coffee
4- However I make an exception for Almond milk in my vanilla chamomile tea
5- Is drinking said tea as we speak!

moxie 05-28-2011 10:03 PM

1. I also sleep with a fan on year-round.

2. I am wondering why everyone is raining all over my Hello Kitty Raffle Prize parade?

3. I do not like milk, including when I was a kid. I will eat it on cereal and cook with it when it is called for in a recipe, but that is it.

4. I do not like hot beverages

5. I drive like a stereotypical grandma

starryeyes 05-28-2011 10:03 PM

Hmmm...

1. I am a twin

2. I have lost 50 lbs... still going!!

3. I am Gay of Gay.. (gay father).. yeah, that makes me super gay!!!

4. I have around 10 tattoos (depending how you count them)

5. I walked inside one of the great pyramids in Egypt!

Gemme 05-29-2011 01:11 AM

I now look for the "doesn't use growth horomones" label on the milk but I still buy it. Ebon refuses and tries to taunt me with 'milk pus' songs and smack talk. He has switched to rice and almond milk and is now trying to find a way to get a machine to help him make it at home. He's obsessed about this.

I will win the HK prize and have a wrestle off. Those of you who want it will wrestle for it for me. In jello. Peach flavored so it won't stain the skin so bad. There will be photos, but they will remain private. :cheesy:

I have turned into the 'air ON' person and Ebon is the 'air OFF' person. It's in his best interest if he wants to live to make sure that I don't sweat in my own apartment.

My feet are part lead. Move over, Grandma! Beep, beep!

You do NOT have to be present to win the HK prize, although I will be there. You may participate in the wrestling if you would like, ami.

Gayla 05-29-2011 01:27 AM

I sleep with a fan on all year round, with the window open all year round and with an electric blanket on most all year round unless we're having a heat wave and it's above 90.

I do not like milk but drank chocolate milk as a kid.

I will use milk or cream in my coffee although I rarely drink regular coffee anymore.

I'm a big geek but not when it comes to cell phones, digital cameras or GPS.

I also drive like someone's grandma. But not my own cuz she drove kind of crazy.

Gaige 05-29-2011 01:42 AM

1.) I can't dance

2.) I like trains and hearing the whistle off in the distance

3.) I prefer to sleep with my feet uncovered

4.) I only listen to political talk radio shows while driving

5.) I cut my own hair

dixie 05-29-2011 08:20 AM

I can't dance either.

I usually only get my hair cut once a year, although I do go to the salon for different colors, etc.

I prefer to sleep with a fan on year round because I like the "breeze" on my face.

I hate wearing watches and only do so if absolutely necessary,

One wall in my bedroom is covered in painted papyrus artwork from Egypt, another wall has artwork and metalwork from India, another has more modern, eclectic artwork, and the other is bare for now.

Sparkle 05-29-2011 09:33 AM

*I love to dance, but the music has to be "right"; I am often to be found "dancing" in my car - where the music is always "right". :)

*I used to eat fire.

*I am needle-phobic. Blood work, vaccines, giving blood, IVs, catheters etc. set me in to a heart-racing, cold sweat and floods of tears. (it is incredibly pathetic).

*Despite my phobia - I used to have several piercings, now all that remains are my ears. They used to be stretched to an 8g but damned if I can't get any of my 8g earrings in right now. And I don't want to face the taper needle this summer to stretch them again. :|

*I prefer sleeping with fans to sleeping with A/C. The chemicals A/C emits give me nightmares and make me sneeze (until I re-acclimate)

deb_U_taunt 05-31-2011 07:19 PM

I have too many house plants.

I love cabbage.

I have a hard time admitting we have a dog named 'princess'.

I have a large collection of nightgowns.

I swear too fucking much.

Mr Nice Guy 05-31-2011 07:33 PM

2. I love Italian food.
3. Pregnant women scare me.
4. I'm sensitive.
5. I love helping others find love.

PaPa 05-31-2011 08:17 PM

1. I prefer a cold bedroom. Warm blankets are a must with the exception of summertime when I simply use a sheet. The a/c at this time of year is set to 62. Ahhh comfort. I can breath.
2. I love to cook and others actually enjoy what I prepare. *Chuckle.
3. I strongly dislike early mornings and can be grumpy when I have not had my sleep.
4. I really miss going out into the wilderness and roughin' it....hiking, fishing, and such.
5. I am headed to Worcester, MA the third week of June for school. A little nervous about meeting classmates. We have never seen each other in real life yet.

dixie 05-31-2011 08:26 PM

I'm actually a very sensitive person eventhough I put on the lil miss badass act around most folks.

My feelings get hurt very easily, to the point I sometimes wonder if it's normal.

I have an online blog that I've had for years about my deepest, and sometimes most painful memories and experiences.

I can be very antisocial sometimes, to where I don't really like being around people for the most part.

There are few people that I deeply admire and look up to, but most of them are on this site.

Medusa 05-31-2011 09:42 PM

1. Sometimes when I get super tired and super stressed, I want to pound my fists on the table while shrieking "LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!" but I don't want to scare the dog and cat. :)

2. I reallllllly love gummy candy. Gummy lifesavers, those yummy artificially flavored peach rings, and even those gummy sharks.

3. I'm trying to convert the towels in my house: All oversized and white in the master bathroom and all sandy-beige in the guest bath. (I can't believe I still had a beach towel that I bought in high school!!)

4. My toenails have been continuously painted for about 15 years. (I know! I know!)

5. I've got 5 books going right now: 1 on the Kindle, 2 on the night stand, 1 in the bathroom, and 1 at work.

Ebon 05-31-2011 09:59 PM

1. I love nature and I believe that it contains everything we need to live, survive and thrive with/on.

2. I don't like talking on the phone(outside of work). I get bored with it after about 2 minutes.

3. I don't think that we are alone in the Universe but I also don't think that aliens would bother coming here because humans are not evolved enough.

4. I think that some animals are more evolved and more intelligent than most humans.

5. I don't like watching the news.

Linus 05-31-2011 10:01 PM

1. I cry when watching some cartoons (e.g., Bambi, Lion King, etc.)

2. I still don't have a driver's license

3. I went to 9 schools before I graduated high school

pajama 05-31-2011 10:12 PM

1. I think my kid is super cool, and I kinda like doing music-ey stuff together and him sharing new finds with me and me sharing music fest finds with him.

2. I never watch the news or political depate of any kind.

3. I look out the window if I want to know what the darn weather is doing, not turn on the TV.

4. I usually don't give a damn what the weather is doing. Even when the syrins're (it's a southern conjunction, trust me) blaring.

5. I may be a little apprehensive about the upcoming move.

I was in another thread and five came up and I thought of this thread, so...

5 was a very bad year for me and here are 5 reasons why.

1. I contracted whooping cough and almost died.

2. I had my first experience with being forcibly stripped naked, tossed onto a freezing metal gourney and covered with towels soaked in ice cold water, complete with an ice bath at the end. Multiple times. See number one for the reason why.

3. I experienced my first molestation. It was the only singular event and the only one perpetrated by my cousin.

4. My mother and much of my family smoked. I spent more time in the hospital that year than I did out, due to asthma, bronchitis, double pneumonia, walking pneumonia, and just plain ole run of the mill pneumonia.

5. I also had surgery on my kidneys that year. Yaaaay for not having to refuse to drink anything so I wouldn't pee so it wouldn't burn and hurt and make me cry and given IV fluids and then ripping said IV out and then being held down and forced to drink stuff and having to pee and being hurt and crying anyway any more. I went though that for two years before I was big enough to operate on. While I do know that the surgery was a good thing, the hospital stay was not. I clearly remember two of my hospital stays in my life, and not for good reasons at all, and that is one of them.
