Thanks for mentioning it. |
I loved it too, brilliant. I had no idea who played who until King Louie first spoke ... unmistakable Christopher Walken. :)

True Story! It was a great movie!
|
I saw this today.
I liked it but I don't think that it's going to be as lucrative as the previous installments. It's truthful, though, and it's got Cedric the Entertainer plus a bevy of other wonderful folks. |
Papa Hemingway in Cuba.......
Stars: Giovanni Ribisi, Joely Richardson, Adrian Sparks
Thanks to a friend of mine that has 'connections' I was able to see a screener of this movie that won't open in theaters until April 29th. I really liked it:movieguy: |
Also got to watch this courtesy of my friend! I loved the book but the movie, not as much:popcorn: |
TANGERINE
97% on Rotten Tomatoes critic meter The whole movie was filmed with 3 iPhones but you would never know it. It is a crazy, funny, sweet, movie with a heart, about two trans women sex workers in LA on Christmas Eve after one gets out of jail and finds out her pimp/boy-friend has been cheating on her. They spend most of the movie looking for Chester, the cheating boy-friend and is about their adventures while looking for him. It does show the dirty underbelly of LA that you don't see in pretty LA movies. I had been wanting to get it on Amazon and was going to pay to stream it but just found it on Netflix. Neither of the women leads had ever acted before but you would never know that either-they are such good, natural actors. I don't know what the life of a trans woman sex worker is like but I know the movie treats them well, they are not looked at as a joke or the butt of one. One review said, "By the end of the film, we are reminded that they have hearts that can be hurt, and are doing what they can to survive". |
Bastille Day
Went to see this movie last night.
I really liked it, which I was kind of surprised about. It's not a demanding film to watch, basically a action film. The only thing you have to use ya head for is the subtitles. If you want a film that's got action, humour and is in a great city then this is for you. It's good to see it on the big screen, with ya popcorn and drink and a friend. Friday & Saturday nights are made for this kind of movie. So check the trailer out if you fancy a look. |
Nina.........
I know there has been much controversial issues surrounding this movie, but I liked it. Say what you will about Zoe Saladana being cast for the role, and yes often the suits in Hollywood leave one scratching their head as to decisions they make, you will be hard pressed to find fault with the vocals she performs through out the movie! On a personal note, even tho it was a short flashback, I enjoyed the phone conversation between Nina and Richard Pryor. |
An old one: Beauty and the Beast. No fancy remake or anything. Just the old Disney flick. An acquaintance livestreamed it over rabb.it the other night. (Why? Long story, but there were some interesting parallels to a show we watch that's unfortunately on hiatus right now so we're basically going stir-crazy in the meantime.)
A while before that, the Utena movie (also livestreamed over rabb.it). Which is kind of like if the Japanese were challenged to make an animated film about a gay couple that's trippier than Alice in Wonderland because I went in completely sober and got a total acid trip. |
I did a double feature tonight. One was planned and one was a surprise.
I saw The Huntsman: Winter War tonight and it was as expected. Visually stunning and pretty fast paced fight scenes blended with twisted fairy tale fantasy. I enjoyed it although I think the advertising is a tad bit misleading. This trailer is the best I could find at describing the movie although the movie guy is wrong. It's not 'the story before Snow White'....it's the story before and after Snow White. Semantics, but still. Plus, I'm a fan of Emily Blunt and she was stunning. Then I made a snap judgment to stay for Criminal. I'd originally planned to wait until it came out on Redbox to see but I'm glad I opted to see it tonight. It's really well done, also fast paced and Kevin Costner's still doing a pretty good job even though he's a codger now. Plus I'm a big fan of Ryan Reynolds and he was as charming as he could be, given the situation. |
Eye in the Sky
This movie bugged me no end.
I don't want to give a spoiler so will just say: politics. The GF liked it and I bothered her by sighing frequently. She knows me so well she knew that they were not happy sighs. |
Thr Martian.

I rented Jane Got a Gun a few days ago. It was pretty good for a Western. I have to be in the mood for Westerns, so take that last comment with a grain of salt. I like Natalie Portman and I like sassy and strong women, so I did enjoy it.

The Duke of Burgundy
The Duke of Burgundy....an interesting film you'll either love or hate but I think it would have been better if directed by a woman.

Interesting, yes. We didn't hate it but did not love it either. |
Ich will Dich
Ich will Dich aka I Want You is a 2014 German film. Marie is a successful designer and has a loving husband and two children. But fate offers more. When she meets the fiancée of their friend Dom, there is an instant attraction and the two women fall for each other. Great movie with believable characters and plot. The Marie character is a doppelganger for Cate Blanchett. Who knows, maybe this was the film that persuaded Cate to do Carol...

I saw Mother's Day today. It was okay. I wasn't surprised, as Rotten Tomatoes didn't give it a great review, but all of those fantastic actors and it was just okay. That's kind of sad.
There were some really good moments, though, and the bloopers during the credits was really cute. |

I need to do more research on what I can possibly get on Roku and/or find other streaming sites. Thanks for letting us know about movies like this. |
Infinitely Polar Bear
I have mixed feelings about this. The acting was very good by most, especially the two daughters, but Ruffalo's character—a bi-polar man—was annoying to me. Also annoying was the brief reference on race—that made no sense at all considering this was an interracial family living in Boston in the 1970s. Apart from that, it was a good film about some of the ups and downs some people experience when a member of the family is bi-polar. |
The Jungle Book, though I fell half way through and missed the rest! Prior to that we saw The Boss and it was AWESOME!
|
Triple 9
A film bursting at the seams with class A actors usually goes either way...really good or really bad! This one is a rare example of sitting on the fence of those two choices. Suffice to say I enjoy it, the acting was solid and characters believable but I was left wanting more from the plot which would of made me care a little more if these characters lived or died. |
I rented this last night. I thought it would be a good background movie while I did crafts and household chores, plus there's sushi and who doesn't love :sushi:?
I thought wrong because neither my crafts nor my chores got more than a minute's attention during the movie. Though it was a bit slow in the beginning, I felt for the main character right away. She is struggling and I know that feeling. She's got grit and drive and the actress really embodied that. It's two thumbs up from me and a lot of other people too, as it's won many Indie awards. |
All Things Must Pass
The documentary is the story of Tower Records, which was founded in 1960-1961 in Sacramento.
They evolved from 45's and albums to cassettes and then onto CD's. In 1999, they had sales of over one billion dollars. They expanded to international markets and overextended the business. Then Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. started selling CD's. When the digital revolution came, Tower jumped on it "not knowing it would lead to their own demise". Then came Napster. "How can you compete with free music?" In 2004, they filed for bankruptcy. :moonstars: |
Watching Ray right now... love this movie

The American Side (2016) Stars: Greg Stuhr, Alicja Bachleda, Camilla Belle
Following a mysterious suicide at Niagara Falls, a low-rent detective unravels a conspiracy to build a revolutionary invention by enigmatic scientist, Nikola Tesla. It had its moments! I figured out the ending within the first half hour  |
The Intouchables
A funny, heartwarming movie based on a true story of an unlikely friendship develops between a wealthy quadriplegic and his caretaker just released from prison. |
Looking forward to seeing the full-length movie. The short is good: Cargo
Cannes: Martin Freeman Boards Zombie Apocalypse Thriller 'Cargo'
1:32 AM PDT 5/13/2016 by Alex Ritman The film will be the feature-length debut from Australian directors Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke and based on their own seven-minute short of the same name, which became a YouTube hit in 2013 after was a finalist at the Tropfest film festival and went on to be featured on numerous web sites, including IGN, Bloody Disgusting and CNET. Fresh from his superhero franchise debut as Everett K. Ross in Captain America: Civil War, Martin Freeman is now set to enter a slightly less spandex-heavy universe. The British actor has been cast in upcoming apocalyptic zombie thriller Cargo, playing Andy, a father who must try save his infant child at all costs. When he becomes infected following a violent attack and with only 48 hours before he transforms into one of the very creatures he's fought to evade, Andy sets out on a precarious journey to find a new guardian. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...-zombie-890741 |
I caught this on Bill Maher. I look forward to watching Michael Moore's documentary. I have always liked Michael Moore and his documentaries. Warning: Some may find this offensive as he talks about Donald Trump at the end in a not so favorable way. He is also a Bernie Sanders supporter. I don't want to and try not to offend people. |
Watch my new video about women filmmakers here! It's a romp through London, reclaiming space literally and figuratively. https://youtu.be/PszL1iwzy4g If you haven't seen a film by a woman, particularly a woman of color who isn't from the U.S., please make a commitment to do so before you watch another movie by a white guy. |
I saw this, which was better than I anticipated.
I also saw this, which was not as good as I anticipated. |
Yesterday was a good movie day.
I saw these movies and enjoyed both immensely. It's got action and great special effects and introduces us to some previously known Marvel characters in a different light. It flowed very well and didn't feel like I sat there for 2 and a half hours. Two thumbs for those that like Marvel and those that like action. It stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney and is directed by Jodie Foster. While that was what interested me, the story itself is a mirror to how things work in this world we've built for ourselves. The ending gutted me a bit but that's how it is. If you see it, you will know what I mean. Two thumbs up as well. |
I found Mansfield Park on Netflix..
I'm alone for a bit and it's a good time to watch these sort of things... <Happy sigh> |
Yesterday I watched the perfect storm. (Have seen it before... Years ago) Good movie but sucky ending.
|
The Martain... very enjoyable!

I'm a little late, but I finally got to see Deadpool and it was amazing! Ryan Reynolds did an epic job! I was laughing my butt off. Epic!

Jack of the Red Hearts Glory is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This movie has some controversial moments at the same time I have witnessed some of the controversial moments in reality. I did find the movie heartwarming, emotional and bittersweet and much more. IMDb: Storyline A streetwise teenage runaway is on the lam from her probation officer. Her name is Jacquelyn, but if you call her anything but Jack, she'll cut you. Needing to lay low, earn money, and gain adequate stability to rescue her 11-year-old sister Coke from foster care, Jack cons her way into a suburban home as live-in helper for their autistic 11-year-old daughter, Glory. Much to her surprise, Jack has a unique ability to connect with the nonverbal little girl. As she positively impacts Glory, the family impacts Jack. Particularly Kay, Glory's mother. As these two scrappy survivors find an affinity with each other, Kay finds in Jack a daughter she can talk to. When romantic sparks fly between Jack and Robert, Glory's 17-year-old brother, we see a group of wounded people poignantly and surprisingly begin to heal each other-just a little bit. But the law catches up, the truth comes out, and Jack is forced to make a choice-to save her own hide, or save someone else. Written by Dan Baptist Term Life A guy wanted around town by various hit men hopes to stay alive long enough for his life insurance policy to kick in and pay out for his estranged daughter. I found this movie to be okay. I do like Vince Vaughn. |
The Witch
Creepy to the max but I can't say I really liked it. Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it 90% and viewers gave it a 55%. Basic premise is that a family is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession but mainly at its heart, is a deep-seated paranoia relative to the times in which they lived. It is set in New England in 1630. I kept thinking: "How did they live in all that dirt?" |
