Pete has to work on Wednesday and on Friday and I am actively unwilling to cook for company on Thursday so

We are going out to dinner with Pete's mother and her best friend on Thanksgiving.

I will make a streamlined meal on Saturday, including a disposable pan and only the side dishes we truly want.

Pete ordered a small fresh turkey from a local farm, yum yum, and

I don't know when I will shop for the other ingredients we need. :|

Snow-- I love stories about your ma. Seriously, I think you should write a book or come to Hawaii for Thanksgiving. :hangloose:

There is something about mothers and menus and schedules. Mine has been on about the menu and the shopping and such for 3 days and we went shopping Saturday wtf......she might be stuck on repeat.....and her looped commentary when we did talk just now... "Oh that's just so much food.." REALLY Mother? You have a 12 person dining room table and 5 cars. Having extra is a lifestyle choice for her.. :| She can't rain on Turkey.Day, I won't let her. :praying:

Poor Tom Turkey

Only in FloriDUH

GULF BREEZE, Fla. (AP) — Investigators say a neighbor and his friend used a bow and arrow to shoot and kill a Panhandle family's pet turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner.

Sheriff's deputies arrested two Santa Rosa County teens — Joshua W. Anderson, 19, and Jacob H. Provo, 18, Pensacola News Journal said.

They told deputies they planned to eat the 30-pound turkey for Thanksgiving.

They're charged with armed burglary, armed trespassing, theft of livestock and animal cruelty.

Animal lovers Brian and Christa Caponi live on 6 acres in Gulf Breeze and have more than 50 dogs, cats, goats, chickens and other animals.

They told the Pensacola News Journal that Tom the turkey was special because he was so friendly.

In fact, Christa Caponi said Tom was more like a family dog than a turkey.

When I read this it angered me and made me feel sad for the family. Their pet was killed. But, then I thought...why does it count as animal cruelty if it is an animal that people kill and eat every day? Hundreds of thousands of turkeys (ok, more than that), are killed and being killed for the Holiday. Is it how a person defines the animal they own that determines the law? It wouldn't be animal cruelty if the Caponi's killed the turkey for their Thanksgiving Dinner.

The "theft of livestock" covers the whole, it wasn't their turkey that they killed, thing.

Just something to think about.

Perhaps it has to do with the manner that the turkey was killed. If the boys prolonged it or did something to cause additional pain and suffering to the bird than what it would take to shoot and kill it, then I can see that.

Maybe?

Maybe their family was hungry....

The_Lady_Snow 11-22-2012 05:20 AM

I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but that certainly is possible. Of course, they said it was going to be for Thanksgiving...maybe no money for a turkey? They weren't siblings, though...

No sarcasm

No, it wasn't sarcasm I'd read the story DUH and all in another thread and stopped to think maybe they were hungry. I've been hungry before so I went there. I'm pretty aware though that the reality could be is that they're douche bags. Not because they're from "floriduh" but because humans are are gross with one another we just can't help it.

If they killed the poor fella for fun, hold them accountable. I'm not sure of their intent, it's just hard for me grasp the harming of the innocent it pisses me off.

ruffryder 11-23-2012 03:58 PM

Yum! The Thanksgiving turkey has been consumed.
It's time for it to be free again, and graze.

I, for one enjoyed the ham more. . and I may just be eating more ham in the coming years!

Continue to be thankful everyone!
