We will be spending Thanksgiving with CCB's family. We will be going to her sister's house which is fairly close. My parents went to the Canary Islands for Thanksgiving this year. I can't wait to see pics.

way too much

We will have a potluck dinner at my parent's house. My daughter made a pie and I'll make risotto and a spinach gratin as well as a pot of pasta for my nephews.

It's our first big holiday since my brother died and no one is feeling celebratory. Hopefully my nephews will be in good spirits, it's easy to just direct our thoughts and attention to them.

My mom and I agree we would rather be in bed with a good book and some pizza and wine.

I'll be home in the femme cave on my own. Will watch holiday shows, talk to family on the phone, fret over the move.

Am thinking of making this mushroom pie for the first time:

But may end up making Turkey wings and gravy, with cornbread dressing, and a green veggie. Haven't decided.

Throughout the day I will count my blessings, miss my family, and enjoy my last warm November in this femme cave.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving week.

Just Syr, me and the munchkin. No family gathering this year. Last year there were 33 of us. This year it's just the three of us.

Stay safe! Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm staying safe at home, and creating arts and crafts for holiday prezzie's for people I know here at home.

Mushroom pie! Mushroom pie! Mushroom pie!

I've been told that I will have a plate delivered to me courtesy of the cantankerous Southern helper for one of my customers. He and his twin brother make my day every year when they come to work with my customer's stuff. I know there will be proper dressing. Other than that, it's a surprise.

Sadly, I don't think there will be mushroom pie.

Thanksgiving

I am totally cheating. I am buying a pre-cooked dinner so that we can enjoy the day.

I LOVE MUSHROOM PIE. Oh my. Enjoy it!

Hopefully Thanksgiving will involve Daddy, me, and my daughter. If none of us get put on quarantine between now and then. We will zoom with my parents and sister in law and nephews at some point. Over the next day or two I'm going to make some of the traditional dishes that I always make for Thanksgiving and leave them on doorsteps for my parents and Sister in law. (wearing a mask and gloves while cooking) I will make my mom fudge bars that she loves and my Grandma's corn spoon bread that we all love. For my sister in law and my parents I will make a dish that I have made almost every year since I realized it got my brother to eat Brussels Sprouts (Sorry cover your eyes for a minute Gemme) I roast them with fresh cranberries and top with a confetti of crumbled bacon and roasted pecans. My brother loved them. I couldn't get myself to make them last year without him here to eat them but I'll try for this year. For my nephews, I will drop them off a vat of my pasta that they love so much. It's very simple but they lose their minds for it.

At home we are planning a simple fish dinner. My daughter is baking bread, Daddy wants to get big lobster tails, and I will make some vegetable sides.

I hope everyone stays safe this year, though it can feel lonely.

Cooking Friendsgiving together..inviting ex, my best friend & her lover....i'm making a pumpkin & an apple pie..toying with the idea of making potstickers as an appetizer...she's still thinking about her part...we're good together..i'm rapid fire and she thinks everything down to the very last detail...i appreciate her mindfulness:hangloose:

Spending OUR first Thanksgiving together....

I will be going over Wednesday, arriving when she does, post work, & we will make our dishes ahead, as many as we can. She ordered a 12-15 lb turkey from Tomato Express..with apricot/cranberry/apple/walnut & saged stuffing! She is making a greenbean casserole, mashed potatoes, and gravy..all vegan. I am making "our" mock potato salad....cauliflower, dill pickle relish, roasted acorn squash, crushed red pepper flakes, S & P, vegenaise, green onions, white onion....YUM YUM YUM.

Will be her daughter & I eating turkey, as C. is vegan. BUT will freeze most of my portion!

We are so excited....I go there alternately with her coming here, weekends. This is "our" weekend getaway!! I will keep this apartment for a few more months....as it affords us escape & privacy!

Wishing everyone a pleasant week ahead. Celebrate safely. We have a VERY limited "bubble" & we are extremely sanitary...so feel safe being there Thursday, then back here Friday til Sunday!!

To my way of thinking, this is a wonderful way to do it...:hangloose:

RebelDyke 11-23-2020 09:12 AM

I am playing it safe this year. Even though many people have invited me....including someone who says "One rule. What goes on here stays here."

So, it will be the same thing I did last year.

I will be cooking a turkey for me and the dog. Though now I think I have adopted a stray cat.

(I don't think it is really a stray because it has been on and off here for almost a year, and it looks to be well fed. However, I did notice it has been declawed. poor kitty.)

It is nice to have been given the entire week off rather than just three days. We needed that.

I'll be stuck sitting here in Green Acres while wishing I could be in Chicago!

The sad thing is, it sounds delicious. It really does. But then I taste it.

Thanks for the head's up! Everything else sounds great. I hope you have a wonderful holiday meal and time with your family.

Kelt 11-23-2020 09:50 PM

Can I have Gemme’s serving? I love Brussels and those sound especially good!

I’m planning on ham steak, green beans, roasted baby potatoes and yam “pie”. Maybe get some FaceTime in with Mom, we’ll see...

I picked up a can of Pillsbury Cinnabon rolls for breakfast.

Dinner will be, prime rib. I got a 2.75 pound version. I also will make twice baked potatoes and a pumpkin surprise dessert. I may or may not be sharing dinner??

I'll be putting up a garland across the front of the house with sparkly seashells and seahorses. I have a piece of plywood that will become a holiday sign that will lean up close to the front door.

And then..finish Christmas mask to wear to work on black Friday. ( no super early hours for me!)

firegal 11-26-2020 07:28 PM

My sister and her roomie live in my Mother in law apt. She cooked and i went to her pad for dinner.

CherylNYC 11-26-2020 10:03 PM

Today I delivered holiday meals to homebound elders and then went home to nothing special. I don't like turkey very much and I usually avoid this holiday. But this year I had planned to spend the holiday with my close friends in their new house in the Bronx. We were going to eat steak and watch motorcycle racing. Woo-hoo! I get tested once a week at work and I would be getting a test on Monday preceding Thanksgiving. That would be good enough, right?

And then I saw Rachel Maddow's raw, emotional piece where she speaks about her fears and her devotion to her partner who had been very sick with Covid. Then she made an extremely personal plea to everyone to reconsider our holiday plans.

Damn.

Well, after that I couldn't very well visit my friends, one of whom is older and the other comes down with pneumonia regularly. Saint Rachel of Maddow must not be ignored. Sigh.

I'll eat all the steak and watch all the MotoGP once we're fully vaccinated.Stay vigilant and be safe, everyone.

Blade 09-13-2021 07:31 PM

Well it is 2 months out still so I have a while to decide. I have the whole week off. I haven't decided if I will go to TN to visit a friend or if I will go camping. I could actually do both but will likely do one or the other. Then come home to rest a few days before returning to work.
