Totally agree! Mine does not.

TL1 01-17-2018 09:11 PM

I think we are at 10 to 11 inches of snow!

Speaking of work......
For us they tell us not to come in if we don’t feel safe. The company doesn’t close and we have to use from our pto if we want to get paid. I’m staying home... today and tomorrow. Reason? Other drivers! I had no problems driving up north in the snow but here it gets insane. People sliding and hitting the breaks I just don’t get why they can not GET it. It’s all good I don’t mind the couple days off. :)

i am right there with you! Our drivers cannot drive in perfect conditions. It’s 15 degrees and there is ice everywhere.

i do mind these days off as they don’t pay us for them, and i really don’t want to use vacation time for this.

One thing you cannot control, is the weather :cold:

Absolutely but companies get out of it when a state of emergency is not in effect by saying 'if you feel comfortable to do so', come in. That way, they take liability off of the table. They don't have to pay and they don't get any feedback if something happens while on the way to work due to the weather conditions. My company is like this and if I can't stay due to the weather, I have to take from my time bank.

We didn't get a lot of snow yesterday but then the misty rain made it all slushy and what didn't melt, froze, so there's a ton of ice out there.

Kobi 03-03-2018 08:27 AM

The rain finally turned to drizzle. The sun is peeking out a bit. The winds are back to a steady 20 mph with higher level gusts. Compared to yesterday, it is eerily quiet.

On a cursory look out the windows - the windows and skylights are intact, the property dividing fence is toast, there are tree parts all over but the trees are still in the ground.

80% of the town has no electricity. Not a surprise. Could hear the transformers popping last night. Additional crews are being brought in from other states to help restore power. Power flickers here but never went out.

The emergency center call came in about 8am warning people to stay off the roads because of all the downed trees and wires, and street flooding. With all the sirens out there, I'm gathering people didnt heed the warning.

High tide is in 2 hours. After that, the storm should be far enough out for the waters to finally recede before tonights high tide.

Really itching to see the bay side harbor. Millions were spent 2 years ago to dredge, rebuild, and fortify the area. Yesterday at high tide, the sea water was pouring into the surrounding parking areas and buildings.

Word to the wise....never buy property between the harbor and the marsh as they strive to become one during these kinds of storms.

Time to find the bike helmet and go shovel the debris in the driveway.

Has anyone heard from Gemme?

Gemme is fine talked to her this morning she hasn't had power for 1.5 days. She's going to call when her power is back on so she doesn't run down the cell battery

Thanks for the update. The power company just called with their update....expect outages to last for a couple of days as they work around the clock to restore power.

Unfortunately, the winds are gusting in the 40-50 mph range again. More trees and power lines are coming down.

The police have started posting pics of cars smushed by trees but it isnt stopping the traffic out there. Neither are the ones showing live wires catching fire.

Oh well, it could be worse.

Kobi 03-03-2018 02:33 PM

This is sad. The police just posted a pic from my favorite town beach on the ocean side.

There is a snack bar off the parking lot facing the beach. There used to be a 40 foot walkway from the snack bar to the stairway that led down to the beach off a 20 foot cliff. The storm in January took out the stairway and eroded about 10 feet of cliff. Now the walkway is gone and the "cliff" is at street level with the Atlantic trickling into the parking lot.

This is what it used to look like:

https://i.pinimg.com/564x/64/14/46/6...215a5f363d.jpg

This is the link to the video of what it looks like now:

Nauset reconfiguration

Good thing the town bought the property on the cliffs above the parking lot.

One of the perks of living in a small town is that when weather causes trees to fall across roadways, the town cuts enough of the tree to open the road. The rest is left for folks with fireplaces and wood stoves to come cut up for their own use. The town will clean up what is leftover in a few days.

Here, I am waiting on the landscapers to deal with the 2 40+ feet pine trees off my deck. One is leaning on the other which is also starting to lean. Hoping the wind stay from the north so when they fall, it will be away from the building.

Seriously, too too fucking old for this shit.

Gemme 03-04-2018 09:39 PM

Power came back on a couple of hours ago. There are still about 2000 people in my city without power.

It also rained, snow showered, snowed and who knows what earlier. Clearly, Riley wants to be remembered.

Stone-Butch 03-04-2018 11:56 PM

weather

49 and sunny for 3 days now and no snow in Toronto area.

Kobi 03-13-2018 08:43 AM

Well, the brunt of the storm is approaching. Winds were gusting in the 50's but are taking a bit of a breather at the moment. Heavy snowfall is starting.

It is a heavy wet snow. So trees are coming down again. Branches are hanging. Power is out to over 35% of town. This is better than PTown which has no power at all. Lights and internet are flickering here.

Gonna be a long day. Thinking it might be nap time.

Gemme 03-13-2018 01:01 PM

Power went out twice but was back in about half an hour each time. Good thing, too, as National Grid promised me via text that they had a ton of crews ready and able to assist with any issues.

Wind is killer. That hasn't changed. The power lines are banging around like crazy. Even though the snow shrunk from this morning (the flakes were HUUUUUGE) and it went from wet snow to soft and fluffy back to wet again, it's better now. I'm crossing my fingers that this holds (as does the power).

Zimmeh 03-13-2018 05:26 PM

Good evening! I hope you all are staying safe...It has been a mild winter down here and my oldest nephew is in Chicago for Navy boot camp.

Please be safe and I hope this weather ends soon for you all..

I'm checking in, to say I'm high and dry, being on the 3rd floor.

When you see/hear about the flooding in Texas, probably the pictures will come from my town. It's been non stop hard rain, thunder and lightning, most of the day. The street out front is flooded. I have an employee stuck in her car, probably over night.

There are a few of us that are close by, and I hope they check in as well.

Thought I would bump this thread this morning, due to Hurricane season getting underway with threats of a big hurricane that threatens the east coast and a gulf hurricane that took aim at the coastline of Texas and nearby states.

With the pandemic crisis expanding in states like Texas, Florida and other coastal locations, it is worrisome what will happen to people who can't observe social distancing during a severe outbreak of storms during Hurricane season.

Keeping a candle lit for all and sending thoughts for personal safety and security during the weeks ahead.

Kätzchen 06-16-2021 09:31 PM

Bumping this thread again, tonight. Wow, hurricane season is already off to a worrisome start.

Also, fire season is already active in my home state. It is very dry here and next week our first heat wave will be underway. :(

Climate change is real.

There is also dire water shortages too.

Post here to let us know what is going on where you live.

So far, we are okay. But it was just six months ago that my whole county, nearly, burned away. Just three weeks ago a patch of our county, in a badly burned area, was on fire again and we got alerts to standby and go, at a moments notice.

We could also suffer a water shortage this summer. It is worrisome.

Stay safe everyone. :praying:

Gemme 08-22-2021 12:33 PM

Well, I've gotten lucky with this one. Henri was just shy of hurricane status when he hit land at 70 mph winds. It went nearly right over me so the winds weren't as bas as predicted for my area but there are still over 80,000 homes and businesses without power right now in Rhode Island. We've gotten a couple of inches of rain so far and will have more later. The wind is still gusting quite a bit now but should simmer down as it moves West of us.

Happyfemme 08-22-2021 12:42 PM

We just have heavy rain and some wind. Where my office is in Connecticut could have more rain and flooding.

nhplowboi 08-22-2021 03:31 PM

Henri is starting to show his presence now. The winds have picked up some and there are periodic bands of rain. The ground is so soaked that more rain and a little wind could be a disastrous combination. The river that runs on the south side of the road where the store sits, is at about midlevel right now. A month or so ago it was overflowing it's retaining wall because of all the rain we've had. Hopefully we don't get the 4 to 6 inches of rain Henri has been handing out to many.

nhplowboi 08-28-2021 02:31 PM

Henri blew by us safely. The storm brought the river up to almost overflowing again and there were some flickering lights but that was about it. Prayers for the people of Louisiana as Ida looks to be a bad one.

FireSignFemme 08-28-2021 08:19 PM

Well one fire map says one thing this one says another, it's tough to know what to believe. All I know is we've been having some really poor air quality. Today it was better though so let's hope they've got things under control and the worst is over. It's 7PM and about 84 degrees out now

Gemme 08-29-2021 11:25 AM

August 29, 2005 and now August 29, 2021. 16 years to the day. First, Katrina and now, Ida. There's got to be something to say about that but I really don't know what it is. I hope our LA and MS members and family are able to get through this storm safely. (f)

cathexis 09-01-2021 04:15 AM

Good thoughts sent to the people of LA and MS. Can't begin to imagine your misery. Hope the utilities go back in service long before they are guestimating. May it happen as South FL did after Hurricane Andrew. We had utilities back up within 2-3 days. May that be similar for you!

Those who believe in a deity, please send them blessings, spellwork, and prayers.

This is heavy on my mind too. I'll be watching the news and hoping for updates when folks can do so. All of my thoughts and positive energy will be directed at those impacted.

iamkeri1 10-09-2024 03:03 AM

I live in Central Florida. Through my own stupidity, plus a quirk in my personal equipment, I am one of the early victims of hurricane Milton.
I spent hours on Monday getting ready for the storm. I had all my big potted plants in the garage. l was on my last task and I needed scissors, which were on the table behind me. Ok, I'm going to insert a bit of information. I've mentioned this in other threads, but not recently. I am a dinosaur, part of a dying breed. I had polio when I was a kid and now, many years later, I use a three wheel scooter for mobility.
So I'm baking up without looking behind me, which is where the stupidity comes in. The quirk is that when backing up, if my scooter encounters a barrier, rather than stopping it tries to climb over what ever is in it's way. The result is my scooter starts to tip over. Mostly I can react quickly enough by switching from reverse to forward and stop it from going over. I was not successful this time and the scooter just rolled right over, dumping me knees first onto the concrete garage floor. OUCH!

I thought right away it was broken. I dug my purse out from under me, called, 911, the fire department showed up and took me to the emergency room. Yep it was broken. Not a bad break. The corner of the bone is cracked at the joint. After hours of consultation they decided I don't need surgery or a cast. They ordered a knee brace for me to hold the joint still so it can heal. Later a valiant gentleman brought it directly to the hospital even though his company had already closed in advance of Milton. He was so nice and I was so excited to be able to go home. Bad news the brace was way too long for my leg, so they have to order another one. And remember I said they were closed? So no brace till after Milton departs. But again Mr Valiant jumped in. He placed the order himself to save time rather than wait for the hospital staff to do it. So there is a small hope that it will be here Friday. Meanwhile I am stuck in the hospital where they won't let me get out of bed. There is no worse torture for me than to have to sit still.
There is some good news. Quite a bit actually.
I am in a hospital which multiple people have assured me is the safest place in s hurricane.
I will not be alone during the storm.
The food is pretty good here and I will not have to cook.
They have huge generators so the lights will not go out.
I am not in a lot of pain, except for the torture of having to sit in this bed for days.

There will be people with much larger problems than mine. I know what happened to me is pretty insignificant. Thanks for listening.
Smooches,
Keri
I'm posting from my phone and can't manage changing the font and color, but it's me

clay 10-09-2024 11:05 AM

We are in central Fl as well. I am not watching too much TV ATM, as it will "change" constantly. SO, I will watch it later this afternoon.

I will check in as I can, and outer bands will begin to reach us around 5pm, then downhill from there!

NOTE: iamkeri......we are very sorry to hear of your accident. IF we can do anything for you, please reach out! Sends healing hugs & vibes from us.

Everything is weird around us.....just silence, dark cloudy skies, & rain. That will change in next few hours.

Thank you to all of you sending us love, for keeping us in your hearts, & thoughts, and loving me! I<3 all of you!!

easygoingfemme 10-09-2024 12:17 PM

iamkeri1 I am so sorry to hear about your fall. I would think it's a horrible feeling to have to leave your house at a time like this without time to prepare. However, I'm glad you'll have people around you, food, and assistance with your injury.

Clay, you know you and yours are in my thoughts too. We'll be watching for updates. Let us know if you need help getting weather info or anything else we might be able to assist with.

Cat 3 made landfall. Scary as hell. I've lost power...

I'm safe.

Severe Weather Check-In !

Besame it is good to hear you are safe and lets hope you stay that way. I do hope your Butch is ok too. You people have been through hell and back this last while.

easygoingfemme 10-10-2024 08:30 AM

I heard from Clay. They are okay. It was a scary night. There is some damage to the perimeter of their property but their house is okay. Power went out last night and remains out.

Bèsame* 10-10-2024 02:56 PM

This has been the longest week of my life! I survived a Cat 3 hurricane. My bestie gave me the merit badge..lol

Long night, hardly slept, sideways winds and gusting 100 mph winds. The house I evacuated to is good. I got word some homes took at hit in my neighborhood. I had to wait for the ok to drive. There were down power lines and trees. So when I got to leave, I saw all of that and more. My home seems fine, still no power.

I'm staying at the evac house for now. I'm also pet sitting. Thank goodness the power came on over here !

Thank you to all who kept with me last night.

I have to go empty the bathtub now😉

Bèsame* 10-11-2024 07:24 PM

I have power!

I stopped by my house to put ice in the ice chest and found a couple of lights on!!

Not sure how cold my freezer stayed. That's a job for tomorrow.

I left evac house just in time for some river and creek flooding started. So I'm home, going to sleep in my own bed tonight .

Stone-Butch 10-11-2024 07:32 PM

Severe Weather Check-in!

We get daily occurences from Florida and it seems to only get worse daily. It is a shame so many people have lost everything they own but at least there are not that many lives taken although one is one too many. We cannot control mother nature but endurance is the answer. Terrible scenes of every part of business and homes just flattened. We can only pray that those who are ok remain as such.

clay 10-13-2024 09:17 AM

clay is safe

We FINALLY got power back, after 15hrs, and internet back last evening!

THANK YOU to all my friends here who kept in touch with us, and easy for posting for us!

Our area was hit really hard, and our home is unscathed, BUT an adjoining neighborhood, not part of us, had a HUGE maple tree that fell into our yard, taking out our privacy fence in 3 places, and one of our palms sheared off and broke a section of the privacy fence that blocks the preserve behind us.

Neighbors came out n force to help my sons & Chris rake up a quarter acre of yard debris.

THE worst part is lying in total darkness while 110mph winds & gusts happen, torrential rains,we got 10". The howling eerie sounds of those winds terrified me. I was so scared. Wife & I just held onto one another.

NOW, there is 3 invests out there, 1 of which formed exactly how/where Helene & Milton did. Will know in about 9 days if is a threat to us again!

We are truly blessed as it hit this area really hard!
