Good evening all :)

Got work done, then laid down with Scoote for a bit...too tired to cook and coughing too much to feel like going out, so my sweetie is zooming off to McDonald's to get me a Big Mac and fries for dinner. Very naughty, but sounds so good right now. Damn I love that woman! :love1:

Jake and Matthew...what a great idea to have a little cake and coffee here for our Zimmy! :) You guys are sweeties...I knew it!

JakeTulane 12-29-2010 07:32 PM

Good Evening Jo,

I think given what you all have been though the last couple of days.. trying to get Rooster off on that plane.. you both need to stay home.. eat some sinful McDonald's (which sounds good to Me NOW.. thank you.. laughs)... and just enjoy some quiet..

Ok.. you need to keep that sweetie business quiet.. (looks around).. because well you know.. I am the Mr. Prickly Porcupine.. grins..

My only other wish.. would be that I would like to be in Florida right now.. because we could have all gotten together for Zimmy's birthday.. I would have cooked us a fabulous Italian meal.. and then we could have enjoyed coffee and cake... in each other's company..

I hope that coughing takes a hike soon for you.. and I am glad Rooster was finally able to fly up this way.. and finish off his holiday..

Hugs to you both.

As Always,
Jake

ps. I am enjoying some french pressed goodness as we speak.. sans cake.

Good Evening you,

That salad sounds great.. I am a huge fan of antipasto.. which is similar in some way to a greek salad..

A shame you got home to late to make the Chicken Marsala.. however, there is always tomorrow evening.. smiles.

I think given it is the Day of your Birth.. you should just eat cake all night.. and call it dinner.. and then have it again tomorrow morning for breakfast.. grins.. with some french pressed goodness.. yes?

Big Hugs.
Jake

That sounds very good! French pressed coffee sounds even better than dinner. I'm having a Healthy Choice TV dinner and I'm headed up to the grocery store to get a cake.

Hugs my friend and I had a blast today!

My birthday cake was delicious! I bought the chocolate lovers delight cake from Publix, it was good but very sweet. I need a huge cup of French pressed coffee now, please Jake....

I got a wonderful present from my two nieces. They both used the pottery wheel for kids and made me this cute bowl with their initials on it.

I'm blessed with wonderful friends and lovely nieces and nephews.

Sweet dreams to all of you,

Zimmy

Zimmeh 12-29-2010 09:36 PM

Get to feeling better!!!

Sending you both a huge piece of birthday cake.

Night,

Zimmy

Good Morning Everyone,

I am going this morning to treat myself to a belated birthday present! I am going to buy a French press coffee maker and learn how to use it. So, if you see smoke coming from my direction, you can giggle.

Have fun, I am off to get ready.

Hmmmm....I suspect that Mr. Prickly Porcupine is the equivalent of Scoote's mean ass.... :) ....but, don't worry, your secret is safe with me!

And your idea sounds great. I'd even volunteer to bake the cake. :chef2:

Good morning everyone! :bringcoffee:

I flaked out early yesterday evening and watched tv from the bed...didn't actually get to sleep until late though. Somehow Scoote and I got to watching nature documentaries about the Florida everglades and the introduced species (like pythons and cane toads) and what's being done about them. Very interesting...but I think the python hunters are a bit insane...trudging through waist-deep alligator infested waters to hunt giant snakes? Ummm...no thanks!

Hope you all had a good evening...and I'm watching for smoke from up north....just in case Zimmy has trouble with that french press. :giggle:

Yeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh.. now we NEED to see a picture.

Good Morning Jo,

ummmmm... you would be correct about that.. .. smiles... I KNEW you could keep My secret.. you are the best.. and yes the idea of all of us getting together is definately something that has to happen this coming year.. not only would I love to see you both... and Zimmy.. it would also be a great vacation as well..

Ok.. and I am going to agree wholeheartedly with the python.. thing.. NO thank you.. laughs..

Yes, we must watch Zimmy when it comes to that French Pressed experiment.. she is all excited. She actually bought the one that I have.. it is one that is sold in Target.. I use it when I go camping/backpacking. However, I have used it in My home.. because it is small and makes 3 cups of coffee. The other french presses I own are bigger than that.. all the way up to an 8 cup maker. I am so proud of her.. she is finally going to be converted.. laughs

I hope you and scoote have a peaceful day..

The pot comes with a little spoon that you spoon the coffee in but it calls for coarse ground coffee and then I guess you tweak it until you get the right results of coffee that you like..I don't know but I guess Starbucks French Roast will work..I got to the grocery store tomorrow and will try to find coarse ground coffee then..

JakeTulane 12-30-2010 02:27 PM

The French roast coffee is an extra bold coffee that I normally only use two scoops in a five cup coffee maker. If your not used to a bold coffee , try the house blend.

I'm wondering does the grocery store sell Starbucks coffee that would be something to look for tomorrow when I go. Or maybe another brand that is french roast which is something I like!!

JakeTulane 12-30-2010 04:49 PM

Hi lipstix,

As far as the coffee goes.. you pretty much can use whichever brand and whichever coarseness you like. The fine the grind.. the easier it is for the coffee to dissolve in the hot water.. and to be pressed to the bottom. Obviously the more coarse the longer it takes for the coffee to dissolve, etc. I use Starbucks House or Morning blends for the flavor.. and the grind of it is "fine". I also use Tim Horton's.. and the grind of that coffee is not as "fine" as the Starbucks. So really any brand of coffee can be used.. what it will boil down to.. is how it tastes to you in the end. you may have to play with it and tweak it as to how much you use when you put the coffee in.. and as I said previous the grind of the coffee will matter as well.

For Me in the end.. I found I like the Starbucks and Tim Hortons that I mentioned above.. and also there is an old school coffee brand called 5 O'Clock coffee... that My Mom suggested I try.. so I have all three of those in My freezer and use whichever I want at any given time.

I hope once you figure out what works for you.. that you truly like how much better to coffee tastes being made with a french press. I would never go back to any other way of preparing it.. besides I like the ritual of it as well.

Take Care
Jake

Hi you,

Perhaps I do.. grins. Ooooooooooh that would be totally cool if you tried it this eve... nods.. I vote YES !! ...

My day has been stellar.. thank you for asking... oh and guess what? I finished your Mom's bracelet.. smiles BIG.

I will text you a picture of it.. I think what I am going to do though.. the clasps that I have.. I am not thrilled about.. so given her birthday is a ways away.. I was going to place an order online anyhow for some stones, and other items I need.. so I am going to look and see what I can find for a clasp.. that really goes well with the bracelet. Wait until you see the pic.. it turned out really lovely. smiles.

Have the kids drove you crazy yet? laughs.

Big Hugs.

The 5 O'clock brand I have heard of but the Tim Hortons no.... I don't think they have that at the store but will look tomorrow like I said but thanks for the info I'm dying to use the wee beastie already and have googled on how to make the coffee in the pot I hope that I don't screw it up though..

Zimmeh 12-30-2010 08:12 PM

Good Evening You,

I'm trying to find it. I'm hoping it was put in my trunk. I will cry if it got lost!

I love the bracelet and thank you for designing it!

Off to find my French press and big hugs,

Good Evening Everyone,

Jake is still laughing at my mess up with the French press. I'm thinking the coffee I have is not the right kind, so I have to go to Starbucks and have them grind my coffee a little bit finer.

Have a good night and sweet dreams!

Zimmy

JakeTulane 12-30-2010 11:27 PM

Good Evening you,

Ok.. seriously.. that did make Me laugh.. and I can only guess.. the water was not hot enough.. so when you do it tomorrow morning.. make sure the water is boiling in the tea kettle. I would try that before you bother having the coffee ground down more.. because if the water is not hot enough it will not "cook" the coffee.. so that totally makes sense. Still funny.. nonetheless. grins.

Big Hugs

Ok.. seriously.. that did make Me laugh.. and I can only guess.. the water was not hot enough.. so when you do it tomorrow morning.. make sure the water is boiling in the tea kettle. I would try that before you bother having the coffee ground down more.. because if the water is not hot enough it will not "cook" the coffee.. so that totally makes sense. Still funny.. nonetheless. grins.

Good morning everyone :)

:bringcoffee: Hope Zimmy got that french press worked out...a morning without coffee? Yikes!

I'm getting a late start today...was up coughing so hard from 4 to 5:30 a.m. that I just wore myself out. Joys of working from home and the job I have...I was able to set the alarm back another hour and try to get a bit more rest. I have definitely pulled or strained something in my upper back from all the coughing though...it's very sore, no matter what position I sit in.

Scoote has a long, tough day at work today...guess everyone wants pizza on New Year's Eve.

Spoke to the Rooster yesterday and he's having fun....and my mother, who scared us with a trip to the hospital (turned out she has some complications from her Crohn's and got very dehydrated). It was an interesting day.

Now for a cup of coffee, and to get seriously stuck into this mess on my desk. :)

Hope you all have a wonderful day...and be safe if you go out to celebrate tonight! :cheer:
