Nez Perce tribe of Idaho (Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Montana & Canada)
Chief Joseph was the leader of The Nez Perce tribal people.
https://home.nps.gov/laro/learn/hist...200×288 pixels LINK to CRITFC (Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission): https://critfc.org/member-tribes-ove...z-perce-tribe/ Chief Joseph was born in the region of the Wallowa Mountains (northeast corner of Oregon) in March 3rd of 1840 and died on September 21, 1904 of broken heart syndrome. :( The Nez Perce people were not only skilled fishermen but also known for their horsemanship and selectively breeding Appaloosa horses. The Nez Perce reservation is located in central upper Idaho, near White Bird Mountain and sprawling across the Clearwater Mountains region of northern Idaho. Chief Joseph was fearless and very protective of his tribal nation. Chief Joseph’s name from translation means: Thunder Rolling Down The Mountain. Although my mother was from the Blue Band of Cherokee in northern Carolina, my mother’s family is knitted into the Nez Perce tribe. Growing up, we would attend certain gatherings and we felt close to our “cousins” in the Nez Perce family. LINK to tribal history: https://www.historylink.org/File/897...20in%20Montana. |
