I had a long talk with my vet prior to my last purchase to make sure it is something I wanted to continue due to the above.

What do you reccommend instead? Do you have a site to share for natural products for fleas, ticks, etc? We have a lot of lyme in the area which is what made me decide to continue with the treatment.

Yes, there is a dog thread or pets somewhere here. I'm happy to share. This season we went all season without ticks and fleas! It was, however a multi-part process but it works. I didn't have to give anyone frontline and the like, not that I would put it on my dogs. But this includes all the dogs I take care of. No one got treated (knock on wood). You can also check farmgoddess.com or my farm site www.dancingcreekfarm.com I always write about various treatments and animal health.

Well hello healthy folks & happy Tuesday! I hope that everyone enjoyed a nice, long weekend and are ready to kick this weeks butt!

We spent the weekend at the lake, where it rained the whole time. Needless to say, we were cooped up indoors much of the time watching movies and honestly just relaxing. We did manage to eat home cooked meals for 90% of the time. I made breakfast tacos with a mixture of egg & egg whites, turkey bacon & WW cheese. We grilled steaks & chicken.... and made baked potatos.

We did go out to eat one night.... where I ordered the house special Chicken Fried Steak. Yeah, I know bad, but I did order the small portion with gravy on the side. I only ate about 1/2 of the SMALL poriton because I filled up on the salad bar, first.

I know that I snacked throughout the day, and probably drank more than I should have. I did not weigh after this weekend... because I KNOW that I didn't get enough water intake so my number always shows higher after the weekend.

Today, my focus is strong and I'm back on track. We plan on hitting the gym tonight, too. I'm gonna kick my own ass! Eliptical and then I'm gonna try out the stationary bike.

Meals planned for the day...

Breakfast:
Raisin bran cereal with skim milk
a banana
1 cup coffee with fat free vanilla creamer

Lunch:
2 turkey hot dogs on wheat buns
an apple

Snack:
yogurt with granola
WW string cheese
or some fruit

Dinner (with cooler temps, we are firing up the bbq pit) :
grilled chicken
grilled asparagus & corn on the cob
garden salad

I got out and mowed the yard yesterday and did some cleanup around the house. Had the windows open most of the day to get some fresh air. It really does a soul good to get some good, clean Ozark air!

I was thinking about how my diet has changed even from a year ago. Thought I'd share:

A year ago, this is what my food intake would have looked like:

Breakfast:
2 Tylenol
Redbull
1 cup of coffee with full-fat creamer

Midmorning:
2 Diet Cokes

Lunch:
Pizza or something fried
One of those giant Otis Spunkmeyer cookies
a huge Diet Coke

Mid Afternoon:
2 more Diet Cokes
some kind of candy bar

Dinner:
Chicken fried steak with gravy or a heavy carb-loaded meal with very few veggies
More Diet Coke or Red Bull

Before bed:
Ice cream and Diet Coke

Sleep: 3- 4 hours a night.

Jeez. No wonder I felt like crap!

Now my intake is like this:

Breakfast:
an occasional 1/2 cup of coffee with sugar-free creamer
water
oatmeal (no sugar) with fruit or yogurt or smoothie

Mid morning snack:
more water
some kind of fruit (usually grapefruit, pluot, or apple)
v8 (spicy hot or low-sodium!)

Lunch:
some kind of lean meat (usually chicken), a steamed green veggie, and a salad
more water

Afternoon snack:
either a Fiber One bar or fruit or carrot sticks
more water

Dinner:
Lean meat (super small portion) 2 steamed veggies (mostly green unless I do squash) and a dinner salad
more water

I do an occasional after dinner snack of a sugar-free banana popsicle or grapes (small portions!)

Sleep: 5- 6 hours a night!

I haven't taken Tylenol for knee pain in over 4 months. I haven't had a Diet Coke in almost 6 months. I'm exercising regularly.

Big change! Feel great!

Oh honey, I feel ya! Here is what my daily meals were like:

Breakfast:
a big ol' Diet Coke from the convience store
2 fried steak, egg & cheese taquito things (yeah, from the healthy convience store deli)

Snack:
Diet Coke refill
Reese's peanut butter cups

Lunch:
Taco Bell taco salad (yeah, I tried to trick myself that crap was healthy @ almost 780 calories with that fried shell)
more Diet Coke

Dinner:
Pasta with some rich cream sauce
ceaser salad
garlic bread
and a bottle of wine

After dinner, we would eat ice cream, too!

No wonder I always felt like crap! I was always tired, too!

I remember reading a ways back there that you're on a really low calorie diet....like 500 or 600 a day? If so, I wonder if your metabolism is responding by hanging on to each calorie. I'm no doctor or dietician, but I've heard that that can happen with ultra low calorie diets...

Hi Jo
Im on a low carb diet but recently I desided to keep a record the calories in the food I eat,It came out to 500 to 600,im not trying to do tht it just works out to that ammount.Im not hungry so I gess im geting enough.Mostly im eating salads, veggies with lots of grilled fish, chicken or even red meat.I stay away from potatos except for sweet potatos wich I love but am careful not to over do.You my well be right about my body being in save the calories mode. Im going to add some to my menue to see how that works, corse when I go to the gym I work out like there wont be a tomorrow,I may be over doing that as well.

So, I joined Gold's Gym and as a treat to myself I got a trainer for 6 weeks. In my first week I have managed to do 5 days of Cardio and a ab workout (X2) from HELL!!! Loved it! My cardio workout consisted of 2 days of the treadmill for 45 minutes each and I threw Jacobs ladder in there for 10 on one of those days. So far I have tried the Sh'bam class, didn't care for it as much as Zumba. Zumba ROCKS! The third cardio class is called Body Jam HOLY HECK! Loved this class as much as Zumba. So there it is... There are a couple of other classes I want to try such as the Gentle yoga and the swim fitness class. All in due time. Tomorrow we will do a brief rundown of the ab routine then we will be moving on to the rest of the body.
Also here is what she has said about eating...I get up really early some days, trust me this is not by choice as sleep is often elusive for me, even when I am dog butt tired...

SNACK
Fruit/nuts

BREAKFAST
Carbs & Protein

SNACK
Fruit/nuts/veggie

LUNCH
Carbs & Protein

This is when you should cut all carbs out.

SNACK
Fruit/nuts

DINNER
Protein & Veggies

Also this week we are going to discuss supplements. Right now we are not counting calories just looking at what I eat.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Medusa 09-07-2011 09:55 AM

I slid over to the scale this morning and did a stealthy sneak peak and saw that I'm down to 291.

My second mini-goal of 289 is just over the horizon. I am WAY excited!

foxyshaman 09-07-2011 10:22 AM

I was away last week and was worried about not getting enough activity. Well that should not have been my worry. I was at a retreat and I chose a "path" that was ALL body movement. We mixed Kundalini Yoga with improv dance... what a freakin' blast for three hours a day!! And I was surrounded by BEAUTIFUL old growth forests so every chance I got (so like daily) I was hiking. I think I lost weight. But I won't know till my weigh in later this week.

Sometimes things just work out right. Yesterday I was supposed to be booked, but my patient cancelled. So I went to my rush class, which is like interval training. Now I just want to bitch and get this out. I HATE, fucking HATE jumping up and down. Why... cause I have double D girls that hop all over the place. Why on the Goddesses green fucking earth do you want me to flop all over??? So, I don't. One of the nice things about being the biggest in the class (and pretty well the oldest) is that if I quit doing something the young little teachers never ever get after me. Ahhh the perks of being overweight and older :superfunny: But that is not what I was writing about... on those rare Tuesdays I have an evening free I like to do my Rush class, leave 10 minutes early, head down to the river valley to another gym and do a super duper yoga class.

I felt sooooooooo good last night. And then I blew it and ate a hunk of white chocolate... and then my body reacted STRONGLY to the sugar. Okay body I get it... :olive:

So another day. Another challenge. Going to the gym tonite for my weight class and if my ex stands me up for coffee (my spidy sense says she will) I may just luxuriate in another yoga class at 7:30. :praying:

And then hit the couch and die!! :canadian:

Thinker 09-07-2011 10:44 AM

Got in 51 minutes of cardio this morning...37 of it jogging. I've done the walk/jog thing for 6 of the last 7 days, and I'm 3 days into my 30-day challenge.

I've never completed one of these challenges yet, so I fear I'll fail again. :( I just have to get one of these under my belt.

I did a sneak peak on my weight too, and it hasn't changed. I hope Friday tells a different tale.

Sachita 09-07-2011 10:59 AM

I have done great with juicing, eating raw and healthy. Today I need some meat. It's just so over powering. I could never go 100% raw. It would kill me. So I am making curried lamb for Wanton Boi and going to have some. I'm going to chop a BUNCH of herbs and lettuce with a light cucumber sauce.

I'm not sure if I should feel defeated for lacking discipline or accept that I just fucking love good food. That the explosion on my tongue is as good as an orgasm. I watch shows like Top Chef and others with anticipation and fantasy. Is it an addiction to food or epicurus indulgence?

Sounds to me like people who *really* appreciate fine wines, and I don't know any who are alcoholics.

So glad you said this Thinker :)

I don't think it's the "good" food that's made any of us too heavy...I know it isn't for me.

I can eat delicious meals and, as long as I don't bury things in cream sauce and butter regularly, that was never my problem.

What made me gain weight was quantity...and the crappy food I ate...donuts, chips, candy, sodas.

I fully intend to keep eating filet mignon, and fresh steamed asparagus with a little butter, and baked potato (although I've discovered plain greek yogurt is a fabulous replacement for sour cream) ...and I will probably periodically go out to eat my favorite mexican food....or bake a batch of cookies.

What I'm not doing anymore is eating fast food, drinking soda, eating potato chips, deep fried stuff, etc. But, let's face it, that was never the really "good" stuff anyway! :winky:

Word.

My weight came on post-T, and I'm not one of those who claim that T made me eat more. I call bullshit on that anyway.

For me, I gave up my career and moved to the other side of the country. With more time on my hands and stressors I was not prepared for, I decided to "add happiness" in the form of donuts for breakfast, ice cream on top of brownies (frequently), big subway-style sandwiches for lunch, and LOTS of eating out on the weekends.

I treated myself to that kind of crap before, but it was only from time to time because I was at work for 10 hours and sleeping for 9. When you give up a lifestyle like that, you have lots of time to discover new crap.......that tastes damn good!!

I'm on a good pace of 2.4 lbs per week. 12 to go to hit one goal.

Zimmeh 09-07-2011 12:06 PM

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I finally hopped on the scale this morning. I weighed in at 168lbs with some of that being water weight from mother nature. I'm still watching everything I eat and I'm having oatmeal squares cereal as a snack. After my 401K meeting, I had a small amount of tuna, shredded mild cheddar cheese, a dash of basil, a dash of ground black pepper and half of a teaspoon of kraft olive oil mayo on a bed of baby spinach and a cup of sugar free peaches for lunch.

Have a great day,

Zimmy

Good luck, Corkey! Are you doing a formal plan or just making better choices? Sorry if you already posted that and I missed it...

Well, being differently abled it's rather a crap shoot most days. The plan is to put less food in and walk, swim, Wii, and lift as often as possible. Some days I feel great, others not so much. I have a personal philosophy, all things in moderation. I read Jillian Michaels online and that helps at times when my will power is on the lacking side.

PinkieLee 09-07-2011 12:25 PM

Well hey there y'all :)

Man, we have had some awesome updates today. Y'all are rocking along... keep up the great work! This awesome group here continues to motivate me to keep on going... we can do this, YES WE CAN!

Well, last night's grilled dinner didn't happen. Instead, I came home from work to find my honey cooking up a big pot of taco soup. She even made the healthier modifications... and it was AWESOME! I had a big ol' bowl for dinner along with a garden salad and one for lunch today! Here is her recipe that she used:

Browned ground turkey with onion
add to the pot a can of each...
Low sodium stewed tomatos
No salt added corn
Ranch style beans
Kidney beans
1/2 - 1 packet of low sodium taco seasoning (depending on how spicy you like it)
1/2 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch
and a couple cans of water

Simmer for about 45 minutes.... VOILA! Let me tell you, it's even better the next day after all the seasonings soak in! Mmmmm!

I can't tell y'all how excited I am for all the positive changes that are happening with so many of y'all. THANK YOU for sharing this journey with us!!! Tonight, gym time it is! I've downloaded some booty shakin' music to keep me going... IT'S ON :)

Tomorrow is my weigh in day. We shall see!
