Hunt and peck typing with one hand, eating fresh nectarine chunks with the other. Playing Monte's guardian angel. He won't settle down at night unless he either climbs in bed with me or I'm at the keyboard and he's resting on the end of the couch close enough for me to reach over and pat him. I don't have to pat him, he just needs to know I could if he needed me to.

Waking up from a hard sleep that felt more like a coma. I had such odd, vibrant dreams. I had to take a shower to chase the cobwebs away. I feel so much less present in my life these days

Getting dressed for a business mixer and dinner out with my date. Later we will cruise the beach.

Trying to unfeel all the emotions I've got going on. Trying to not feel so utterly devastated over the loss of a great man. I haven't slept more than a few hours since we received the phone call my father in law had died. My poor wife is consumed by this loss and I'm finding myself useless in consoling her. I keep telling myself you can fall apart later, you have to be strong.
