I have not been exercising for the past two months. The new school year in a position I'm not grooving with has me too overwhelmed. However...

I went to the gym the past three days. Saturday: 30 minutes stairmaster (level 2/3), 30 minutes weightlifting and stretching, Sunday: 30 min. stairmaster, today: 1 hr on the stairmaster (level 2/3). I was kinda surprised I had the energy for an hour today when I had not slept well last night and had been eating a lot of white carbs during the day. Who knows, but today the first half hour I was not even working up a sweat. In any case, the energy level once I started today was a pleasant and unexpected surprise.

Well.. I didn't hit the gym today, but I found out that it has machines lined to work every muscle in your body..I dread being sore for a couple days but I can't wait to start weightlifting again..

Exercise

My coworker and I walk every morning. I enjoy our walks and my body feels better.

I'm with you. I haven't seen the inside of a gym in quite a while, though I do get some manual labor through work and I've been moving a lot of furniture lately so that helps too. My diet has been dipping into 'uh oh' territory lately too. Damn holiday season and wavering self-control.

Luckily, the weight has been holding steadily and I'm not having difficulty with my sciatica, which is my primary concern whenever I slack off. I will get back into the sweat box soon. I just have to kick my own ass to do so.

Likely you were running on adrenaline. I get like that when I haven't slept well and do something physical. I seem to breeze right through it but I'll crash later, usually the next day, and especially if I short myself of sleep again.

Good for you!!!

easygoingfemme 11-21-2016 08:10 PM

I'm about to get back to it. I had months of difficulties from a surgery I had over the summer that kept preventing me from being able to use very much upper body strength. I got an all clear (again- let's hope it sticks this time) last week. Now it's time to tone back up.

Gemme 11-24-2016 10:59 AM

I finally made my way to the gym this morning.

Since it's been almost a month, I decided to take it easy and just did cardio. I hopped onto an elliptical and then forgot about the whole 'taking it easy' thing.

LifeFitness elliptical, random program, level 3
Stats: 271 cal, 2.68 mi, 30:00 min

I followed that up with about 10 minutes of stretching.

Good workout!

nycfem 11-25-2016 05:54 PM

I thought the gym would be post-Thanksgiving crowded but it wasn't. I went late afternoon so maybe that helped. In any case, I enjoyed not having the crowds. I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster Level 1-4. Then I did weight lifting and stretching. It felt good. It was hard to get started but it felt great once I was done!

pamela 11-25-2016 06:02 PM

lots of walking today, which was fun in the fog

Rockinonahigh 11-25-2016 07:42 PM

It was slow and easy so I wouldn't stress anything, a good 30 minutes outside in the sun working out, it felt so good.

nycfem 11-26-2016 12:09 PM

I went to the gym today. 30 min. stairmaster (levels 1-4), 30 minutes weightlifting, floor exercises, and yoga.

I think Jill has joined another gym. She must not have been able to deal with the years of construction going on. When someone leaves the gym, you never know where they have gone!

easygoingfemme 11-26-2016 12:55 PM

3.5 miles rowing.
I feel like a new woman. One who just left about 40 lbs of emotional baggage on the rowing machine.

legally_b10nde 11-26-2016 04:16 PM

Worked on my legs, butt, and abs today.

3 sets of squats, 3 sets of Romanian deadlift, 3 sets of goblet squat.

3 sets of lying leg curls, 3 sets of sitting leg curls, 3 sets of dumb bell lunges

3 sets of cable crunches, few min.of planks, 35 min. on the stairmaster

Gemme 11-27-2016 11:51 AM

Went to gym #2 and stuck with the elliptical, but did the total body program so it was pretty demanding.

Precor EFX576i
Stats: 255.2 cal, 2.22 mi, 30:00 min

I stretched in the dark classroom until a guy came in and flipped half the lights the room and then proceeded to lunge walk his way back and forth across the width of the room. It wasn't too bad of a distraction and I was mostly done anyway, so it wasn't too much of a bother.

All in all, it was a nice workout and stretch.

easygoingfemme 11-27-2016 02:32 PM

I just spent an hour raking the lawn. That was good. I'll also row later this evening to help settle my mind before bed.

RockOn 11-27-2016 03:37 PM

played with canine children a lot outside after temps got above 35 degrees

sanded and painted a 4' by 8' plywood sheet

used blower to clear backyard of pine straw, pine cones, leaves - never ending regular task

cut four 32" 2 by 4s (setting up next weekend's project early to make it go faster) ... must make a saw stand for my Dewalt 12' miter saw

note:
All this is probably not classified as exercise but some of it gets pretty strenuous ... especially the sanding. I really do not enjoy the sanding part at all.

nycfem 11-27-2016 08:11 PM

I went to the gym today. I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster (levels 1-4), then 30 minutes of weightlifting and stretching and ab exercises. The guy next to me on the stiarmaster was not wearing any deodorant and sweating up a storm so 17 of those 30 minutes were rough ones!

nycfem 11-28-2016 10:04 PM

Since it was only Monday, I had the energy to go to the gym today after work. I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster (levels 1-4).

Are you ready for this? I've mentioned how my gym went bankrupt and has new owners and how they're doing all sorts of weird things and being constantly under construction. So the latest... they are doing away with membership cards and the people who look at them- and instead are replacing them with a machine that detects the patterns in our irises! They registered me today. I looked into a machine, and it imprinted the pattern of my irises (not flowers- referring to my eyes here!). So now I can stare at a little mirror window on the door, and it opens for me when it detects my iris pattern, as unique as a snowflake! This new system makes up for all the construction!

Wow. I have to say, that whole iris scan to get into the gym thing would freak me out a little. It's cool, but a little freaky for me. I'm glad you feel like it's an improvement though, it's your gym!

I did a 4.5 mile row and a lot of mental exercising.

4.5 mile row?

I am extremely impressed!

SmoothButch 12-03-2016 01:06 AM

Ran six miles out on the trail today.

nycfem 12-06-2016 09:27 PM

Yesterday: 30 min. stairmaster (levels 1-4) ; 30 minutes weight lifting and stretching

Today: 30 minutes stairmaster (levels 1-4)

Probably too tired by tomorrow to go, because that getting up early for work gets to me and I am a night owl!

SmoothButch 12-08-2016 11:41 PM

Ran three miles on the trail.

Gemme 12-09-2016 06:13 AM

I walked about 20 minutes while dodging traffic yesterday but that's about it.

nycfem 12-10-2016 09:39 PM

I fell apart after Tuesday's exercise, stopped sleeping enough for the rest of the work week. Today I slept in and then went to the gym and exercised for an hour, and it was like nirvana. I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster (levels 1-4) and 30 minutes of light ab exercises, weight lifting and stretching. I went in the evening, and it was super dead. Oh, and on the stairmaster I'm watching a good netflix doc series called "Captive" about people held captive.

nycfem 12-11-2016 05:04 PM

I went to the gym around noon and did 30 minutes on the stairmaster (levels 1-4), and then 30 minutes weightlifting and yoga. Nothing is feeling out of whack with my body, and that's all I care about during / after a work-out!

nycfem 12-12-2016 08:27 PM

I did my thing of taking advantage of a Monday because I become more sleep deprived as the week progresses. Here was my routine:

35 min. stairmaster (levels 1-4, 2 min. intervals)
10 min. treadmill (3.0 speed, no incline)
10 min. upright stationary bike (HR above 140, random program)
10 min. stairmaster (levels 1-4, 1 min. intervals)
15 min. weightlifting
15 min. floor exercises and stretching

And I feel great!!

SmoothButch 12-28-2016 09:03 PM

I ran 7 miles out on the trail today.

SmoothButch 12-30-2016 05:25 PM

Three mile run today.

Happy New Year's, exercisers!

I hit the gym first thing this morning in an effort to wash away the old and jumpstart 2017 with a good workout. I had some challenges as I am battling a cold thing that hit me hard last night and I've got about 4 nights of not enough sleep under my belt, which is what drop kicked my immune system and allowed this sickness to slip in the back door, so to speak.

So, I decided to have a good but safe workout.

254 cal, 1.92 mi, 30:00 min
My average speed was 4 mph.

I finished it up with about 12 minutes of stretching on the True Stretch machine and the mat.

It was good. I worked but didn't overextend myself or lose my breath. I have some other stuff to do today that will be physical anyway so it's going to be a good day for exercise and movement.

legally_b10nde 01-01-2017 07:24 PM

2017 New Year workout!

Soft*Silver 01-01-2017 08:22 PM

I want someone to explain to me WHY our local YMCA would be closed on the day after millions of people have resolved to step up their exercise for the new years. I simply wanted to go into the heated therapeutic pool but noooooooooo....they were closed today!

RockOn 01-01-2017 08:33 PM

heavy lifting

Here I go with my impressive self again ...

Back to back, I lifted a total of six twin packs Little Debbie chocolate swiss cake rolls into piehole ... it's a sickness, I tell you!! Felt squeamish afterwards and the sugar rush almost killed me for almost an hour.

:(

I do not want any more Little Debbie chocolate swiss cake rolls today.

Oh no... go drink a big glass of water please.

I had a 7k row that went really quick and easy. Best workout all week!

BB and I put up our exercise chart for the year, which we had stopped doing long ago during 2016.

Yesterday I slept, and today I went to the gym. It was a hard workout. I hadn't been in as long as it was that I last posted.

I did 30 minutes on the stair master (levels 1,2,3, and 4), followed by 30 minutes of free weights, ab exercises, and stretching.

I'm really trying to stick to a sleep schedule this year to help my exercise.

Hugs to the exercisers. It's helpful to me to come together on this thread.

nycfem 01-03-2017 07:26 PM

I got to bed late last night but one late night doesn't really interfere with exercise.

I went to the gym after work and did 40 min. stairmaster (levels 1-4), followed by 20 minutes of leg weights, balancing, and stretching.

This is the second time I've been next to the same woman with B.O. on the stairmaster. It's a rough time up there.

RockOn 01-03-2017 07:39 PM

took long walks at work on both morning and afternoon breaks

RockOn 01-03-2017 07:49 PM

back at nycfem

It is rough indeed!

There are two women at work who have horrible body oder when they come in at 8:00. I am thinking of putting a bar of soap on their desks with a note which reads: Bathe every morning and use soap.

Do you find that working out later in the day causes you to stay up later?

What's just as bad is someone who douses themselves in cologne or perfume before coming to the gym and then, when they get sweaty, the smell compounds from the heat. I get that a lot at my cheap gym.

Go to HR and have them deal with it or the women could go to HR to report you for doing something like that.

Of course, you missed a perfect opportunity with the holidays. You could have given them small bath/body lotion kits for the holidays without being blatantly offensive to them.

legally_b10nde 01-04-2017 07:15 PM

warm up: step up w/knee raise

3 sets Bench press - just a bar bell w/out a spotter
3 sets Incline dumbbell press
4 sets Dips
4 sets Hip thrust
3 sets Plank
3 sets Cable crunch

Body Stretch

Medusa 01-05-2017 12:51 PM

I'm back to my exercise routine hopefully and I'm 7000 steps into my goal of 11000 for the day.

I'm on Fitbit if anyone wants to friend me there. Love doing friend challenges :)
