A good friend is one who can call me out on my shit with love and compassion, and without judgement or shame; with such tact and tenderness that it adds no extra sting to the revelation, and I feel better for it.

I didn't realize just how good a friend he is, and what a keeper, until he showed me this kindness.

My cat does the same thing. He just does it when there is STILL food in his bowl!

Same here. If you don't like bars or strip clubs it's nearly impossible to meet anyone.

Don't argue with me, it is.

A morning kvetch, which will hopefully enable me to release and move on: When sharing the common areas of a household with 8 people it is important to follow a few rules to avoid chaos and inconvenience. For instance: always clean up after yourself in the kitchen and never, ever leave dishes in the sink, especially overnight. I often wake early and use that quiet time while everyone is asleep to do cooking for the day. More often than not, the kitchen is trashed and I have to clean it before I can do my own chores.

While I'm at it - never, ever, leave cast iron soaking in water - soapy water at that!

Oh, and we compost not only because we are tree-hugging hippies but because any food scraps left in the trash will attract animals to the outdoor trash bins and they will tear it up, leaving a huge mess for someone to clean up, and likely not the people who caused the problem.

Okay. Thanks! Now I get to tell this to the 8 people who need to hear it, but hopefully with no venom.

When I was in high school I worked 3rd shift at a restaurant and often didn't get home until 1:00 a.m. and left the house for school by 6:30 a.m. One time I came home and made myself soup and grilled cheese and left the dishes in the sink. I want to say I was being thoughtful by not making noise at 1:20 a.m. but truth I was being lazy. When I got up in a rush to get to school and found my mother had put all my dirty dishes and trash in the front seat of my car....well, I never left dirty dishes lying about ever again.

Not sure if your roomies have cars but I heard putting them in the bed works pretty well too. :giggle:

Katniss~~(I did cringe at the cast iron in soapy water....ugh!)

As much as I want to say I'd pack a picnic and luncheon right out there on the ledge.....I saw way too many "Road Runner" cartoons as a child and will admit I am hesitant.

Unfortunately this method doesn't really fly with non-family members, unless one is trying to make certain the environment is, and remains, hostile!
