ATM I'm watching "Marcella" on Netflix and watching my ankles swell from the heat.
97 degrees heat in Ottawa ...tell me again how Climate Change is fake news.

C0LLETTE 07-11-2020 06:21 PM

Well, I finally did finish watching " Marcella " Season 3 ... a most peculiar series on Netflix.

It's a very dark British detective series that I both loved and hated...often at the same time. This often happens when the central character is a female.

Right now I'm listening to the construction work going on across the street...going gangbusters...and not a female worker amongst them...Good paying jobs, I'd say, particularly when almost all service industry jobs, where women tend to employed are shrunken down to almost nothing.

We need more women trained in the trades...more women in ALL of those trades. Those young guys I see out there likely aren't supporting families beyond minimum but I'd bet that many female tradeswomen carry a large load of responsibility.

We need to stop the myth that jobs for men are a priority cause they are the only breadwinners that count.

I'm killing a little bit of time by hanging out here today, before I get one more errand crossed off my list of chores for today. It is incredibly warm outside. The humidity is rising and the heat index won't lift until later this week. It's almost like the weather we get during August (thunderstorms, as we head into another seasonal weather change).

After I get my late afternoon appt crossed off my list, I plan to kick back and relax and binge watch a few of the latest British Crime Dramas that I've been watching lately. By then, it will be time to snuggle up with my pillows.

Sitting in the emergency department with my older brother. He was experiencing chest pains. His BP is 172/105. They are going to admit him and do a cardiac cath in the morning.

I hate being here for the obvious reasons but he needs the support.

C0LLETTE 07-20-2020 04:07 PM

I'm so sorry, Wrangler. This has been such a difficult time for you.

Hope everything is ok? I just got off work and sitting here in the car waiting to go clean this house in half an hour.

Got up at sunrise to do water sets and now that this chore is done before i go to work, I am lounging on the patio deck, and having a cup of coffee. It is definitely going to be cooler weather today, thank heavens.

ok, what are "water sets"? I'm the kind of person that drinks and smokes and thinks that skipping one meat meal a week is a major concession to my arteries.

Back in the day, we had a ditch rider that set up water sets for our property, twice a month. I forget what you call it, but "water sets" is what I call watering the property (making sure the lawn, flower beds, raised garden beds and newly planted trees -- get water). It's timed sets of watering. 30 minute sets. It takes a couple hours to make sure every area gets the water it needs to survive the heat wave.

Relaxing, was up till 5:30 this morning moving things around to make room for a desk my sons were bringing over. I had to completely undo all of the computer/other electronic stuff I'd just gotten set up, and move a bunch of furniture around to do be able to do that. Finally after hours and hours couldn't go on a minute longer, had to catch a little sleep before finishing up this evening. Frustrating because the whole time I knew this was something either of my sons could do in less than an hour, maybe even half. I kept at it though and got it done without any help from either. Now I'm just kicking back enjoying a well earned rest and working on dinner which is only going to be breakfast food - quick and easy. I don't have an ounce of energy in me left for anything else.

ATM: I AM DEATH CLEANING ... "DOSTADNING"

There’s a Swedish word for declutter: dostadning, a hybrid of the words for death and cleaning. And as morbid as it sounds, that’s exactly what death cleaning is: the process of cleaning house before you die, rather then leaving it up to your loved ones to do after you’re gone.

A new book called The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning makes the case that the task isn’t morbid at all. Author Margareta Magnusson—a Swedish artist who describes herself as somewhere between age 80 and 100—says it’s “more like a relief,” and that it has benefits you can enjoy while you’re still very much alive.

“Generally people have too many things in their homes, it’s a good thing to get rid of things you don’t need.” Magnusson says she’s always death cleaned, “because I want to have it nice around me, keep some order.”

Magnusson says people should start thinking about death cleaning as soon as they’re old enough to start thinking about their own mortality. “Don’t collect things you don’t want,” she says. “One day when you’re not around anymore, your family would have to take care of all that stuff, and I don’t think that’s fair.”

Keep a “throw-away box,” things that are “just for me.” When she dies, her children know they can simply throw that box away, without even looking through its contents.

“There can also be something very empowering and healthy about taking care of your own space and making it more organized while you’re still around.”

Death cleaning may have benefits for the cleaners themselves, and not just for their loved ones. Clutter in the home can raise stress levels and reduce productivity. As adults get older, a house full of stuff may also raise risk for falls and create other health and safety hazards.

Many people may engage in a type of death cleaning without calling it that—when they downsize from a large house to a small apartment as they get older, for instance. “It’s a new way of thinking about the grunt work that comes along with those transitions, which can be really stressful.”

Death cleaning is an ongoing process that’s never truly finished. “You don’t know when you are going to die, so it goes on and on,”

Death cleaning ends with death.

Seems reasonable to me.

I have been watching a Ball Room Dancing Championship video, over on YouTube, which was filmed back in the 1982. I couldn't find any Dancing with the Stars full tv show videos, so it's watching this video, lol.

It looks like an awful lot of effort goes into ball room dancing. For example, wearing a permanent smile on your face, while you dance all over the floor. Lots of leg work. Staying in tune with the orchestra and your dance partner. It's entertaining to me, listening to how ball room dancers are evaluated, based on their performance, style of dance, appearances, etc.

It's almost like watching coverage of sports events, kind of.

And it's kind of charming.

I got to thinking that possibly the dance participants back then were most likely in their 30s or so. Which if they're still around, they might be in their late 70s, early 80s? But gosh, what a lot of energy it takes to do Ball Room Dancing.

Mowing lawn today ... came in to cool off for a while and hit the gatorade ... soon as I have finished mowing, I plan to kill most of my lawn with salt and vinegar. I am stocked up heavy on these two ingredients. The grass won't need mowing for about a month -->> it will come back even healthier. With this heat and the real estate I have to mow, I cannot keep it short enough. Snakes do not like short grass because it blows their cover and they love to hide.

I just got done watching a baseball double-header (Braves vs. Phillies - Go Braves!) and eating dinner - well, snacking mainly. After I check email and messages I'm going to do all my nighttime getting-ready-for-bed stuff.

I've got my big tape measure out, taking measurements of a wall in my studio. I might have my brother-in-law build an air-tight-sound-proof wall of sorts. Somebody at work suggested it earlier today. It might just work.

Getting ready to go to a family reunion that I am not the least bit interested in going to. I think it's too soon. I told my mom's brother that several times but he scheduled it anyway. None of my siblings are going. I said I would attend but I am not taking anything and if I stay an hour that will be too long.

I will be going kayaking after. My nephew and his girlfriend wanted to get me out to do something for my birthday on Monday. I am sure I will enjoy it once I am there but right now I am not looking forward to it.

I'd rather just stay home alone.

I am sitting on the back porch watching the hummingbirds. I am not sure what's going on but recently they've been fighting a lot. I know they are territorial but usually frequent the feeders quite often. Now they sit in the tree and wait for another to show up and they buzz back and forth at each other. Sometimes it sounds as if they actually make contact with each other. It's interesting but I prefer when I can watch them enjoy the feeders.

I am compiling a play list of the soundtrack from 1994's "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", so I can burn a CD of it in the future. I found this clip, which is one of my many favorites in that movie.

I simply adore Terence Stamp, who plays "Bernadette" in the movie!!! :awww:
