And So It Goes....liked it very much.

Saw "Dear White People" over the weekend. Just released but was a hit at Sundance. I thought it was well done and worth seeing but I am always a fan of humor used to discuss difficult or sensitive issues that people may want to shy away from. It reminded me a bit of Spike Lee's "School Daze" but wasn't as hard edged. It discussed standard racial stereotypes but avoided some of the microaggression often found in daily living. See it with friends and plan to have dinner/coffee afterwards as it brings up some interesting discussion points.

Quote:
This movie actually surprised me a bit. I knew it had a sad bit in it but I found myself bawling like a baby in more places than I anticipated. Of course, I teared up during the Pampers commercial too so maybe that's not saying much. I figured things out before they did in the movie but not so early that it annoyed me. In fact, I quite enjoyed the whole process of it all. Good story. Good characters. Good graphics. They even have a Fall Out Boy song for the theme. There was a boy in a wheelchair, possibly with cerebral palsy (or 100 other conditions; I'm just guessing from what I saw), a few seats from me and he squealed with joy throughout the movie and that actually made the movie better. The rest of us laughed and gasped at the appropriate moments and he just squealed to his heart's content at some of the oddest moments but it made me look at things a bit differently and I tried to look at it through his eyes. If you go see it, STAY the whole movie, through all the credits. There's a yummy bit of fun at the very end. |
I finally got to watch The Book Thief :)
I laughed I cried... I mostly cried...great movie... |
It was almost 3 hours long.
I think it would be more enjoyable if one was a science geek and understood more about wormholes, space travel, relativity, etc. Parts I thought were terrific, others, not so much. I loved Inception, also by Christopher Nolan. :movieguy: Interstellar: A group of explorers use a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer an interstellar endeavor. Director: Christopher Nolan Writers: Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816692/ |
Creepy, amoral character. Great acting by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Nightcrawler When Lou Bloom, a driven man desperate for work, muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story. Aiding him in his effort is Nina, a TV-news veteran. Director: Dan Gilroy Writer: Dan Gilroy Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton IMDb |
Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newmann
Finally saw this classic film...it reminded me hugely of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest...but maybe that's just me... |
I tried to watch Hotel Transylvania again last night but the DVD was scratched to Hell and back, so I missed chunks in the middle and end. Good thing I've seen it before.
I want to get out to see this this weekend: I still haven't seen John Wick or St. Vincent and might just wait for Redbox for them. |
