Gov. Brown Declares State of Emergency
Gov. Brown declares state of emergency after storms cause flooding, erosion, highway damage.
After another round of heavy rains soaked parts of California, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency late Monday for several counties dealing with an estimated tens of million dollars in damage from flooding, erosion, and mud flows. http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/9065...A-STORMS.4.jpg (Photo: Monica M. Davey, European Pressphoto Agency) The governor’s order cited the destruction to roads and highways from the so-called atmospheric river that has pummeled Southern California, the Central Coast, the San Joaquin Valley and the Bay Area since early January. A second emergency declaration was also issued for a spate of Northern California counties battered by rainstorms. The emergency order clears the way for requesting federal emergency assistance funds for highway repairs and reconstruction. The rains that deluged Southern California over the weekend continued Monday, with showers punctuated by bursts of sunshine. Hail was reported in Burbank and snow was anticipated in the Antelope Valley. On another related topic, the drought is ending north of the San Francisco area ... http://www.gannett-cdn.com/usatoday/...son_Online.jpg More at the latimes.com and at USAToday.com. |

Everything here is covered in a few inches of ice/snow. The driveway to my apartment building is plowed and maintenance has done nothing about it. I had to go out and I almost couldn't get back in. I may be out there with a shovel later. Ugh. |

Snow to start around 5am and will continue throughout the day and eventually leave us with probably around 14 inches or so of snow. The cape has blizzard warnings and we'll have 40 mph gusts. It's going to be cold and blustery tomorrow. Currently, it's just a hair above freezing but will steadily decrease over the next 24 hours and will reach 0 around 10pm tomorrow and go down from there.

8-12 inches of snow home in Northampton, 3-7 inches here in NY at my parents'. Definitely putting a kink in my travel plans.

Our 3-6 inches of snow is now looking like it might be 10 inches? Looked out at 2am, nothing. Looked out at 5am, snow pouring down.

Jeezy weezy, easy.
I'd shoot myself. As it is, we have up to 3 inches tomorrow morning mixed with freezing rain and rain and then more rain and more snow and then more snow and lots of wind and then some snow. So, basically it's a snow and ice rink kind of weekend. Yeah, that should do it. |
54 degrees and totally pouring rain! It rained heavily all afternoon.
"Posted 29 minutes ago THE Flash Flood Warning REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 900 PM PST FOR ORANGE...SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTIES... At 627 PM PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area which will produce flash flooding. Most locations have received an inch of rain with some locales to around 2 inches. Additional rain amounts of a quarter to half an inch per hour will result in flash flooding. In addition, excessive rainfall will likely result in debris flows within and downstream of the 2016 Blue Cut Fire burn scar, including railways. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. Some locations that will likely experience flooding include... Anaheim, Santa Ana, Riverside, Irvine, San Bernardino, Fontana, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Ontario, Corona, Orange, Fullerton, Costa Mesa, Rialto, Mission Viejo, I-15 Through The Cajon Pass, and areas in and around the Blue Cut Fire burn scar". My co-worker texted me tonight stating she barely made it home from work as it was raining so hard, the streets were flooded. This is all so unusual for us. It is El Niņo on steroids this year. |
We have had pouring rain for the last 3 hours, with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
We aren't supposed to get hit as badly as Anya is, but we are already so saturated out here I expect we will probably get flooding. |
