Last night I watched Oranges with Hugh Laurie (House)
The plot is quite different...very interesting.. sometimes grotesque...lol That's all I have to say about that...except it's worth seeing. :) |
odd.strange. just like me. Great movie! |
I saw Railroad Man with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman...
I have been choosing movies at random from the library..and I'm rather enjoying it. I have no expectations going in and it simply unfolds in front of me. This movie was based on a true story. It's about a man who always had a penchant for railroads (since childhood) and he becomes a soldier during World War II. His entire regiment is taken prison at the fall of Singapore. If you've seen Bridge on the River Kwai, it's the same time and same geographical area. |
I know it's mushy, but I love it....

Stand Up Guys with Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin.
It was a slow start and I nearly stopped watching. So glad I didn't. It picked up in a big way (thanks largely to Alan Arkin's character). Very good to see these great actors still making good movies :) |
A newer version of Jane Eyre :)
One of my favorite books! I just love the historical romances...but I know I'm in the minority there lol. This new version is with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender. Dame Judi Dench also plays a part. The story is the same but they did such a great job with imagery and subtlety which really is the defining mark of a really good historical drama. For me anyway :) I have seen other versions of the movie, but this one by far is the best I've seen. I chose wisely... the library has 3 versions :) (Yes, I will likely watch them too...lol just for the subtle variances..) |
August: Osage County
I've been avoiding Meryl Streep movies for some years because I was becoming numb to her talent. It was like having too much apple pie--it was good, but enough, already. A friend suggested I watch AOC because I like movies with difficult conversations. Streep was so good in this that I will have to watch the movie again because I probably missed some subtle elements of the film since I was mesmerized by her performance. :) I'll watch it, and other Streep movies, in the next couple weeks. Streep once told James Lipton of Inside the Actors Studio that each of her characters has a secret that no one knows about. The only secret she would share was the one held by her character in Kramer vs Kramer. The role she played was Mrs. Kramer and her secret was that she never loved her husband, Mr. Kramer--not even when she was married to him. It was sooooo fitting. And even though it was never said in the film, it was expressed in everything she did.... She is probably the greatest American actress of my generation. So glad I gave AOC a chance. |
I finished watching The Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal...I fell asleep watching it last night...
I had hoped it was some kind of war movie...I'm a girl who likes them...mostly... Yeah...it's not a war movie. It's some seriously messed up acid trip is what it is... don't get me wrong; I can watch Mr. Jake do most anything...but I just waited and waited for a conclusion to be drawn and when it did....all I could think was...REALLY?? I feel very meh about losing 2 hours of my life. But Jake Gyllenhaal has beautiful shoulders...does it compensate? Not really....just makes me feel less bad about the loss of time in my life... |
Social network... It made me feel bad for Mark. He had no social skills, but he was taken advantage of. Facebook was not even close to the Harvard dating site design.

I watched The Conspirator with Robin Wright, Kevin Kline etal. (I was VERY happy to see a very grown up Alexis Bledel from Gilmore Girls play a smallish role :) )
The movie is about President Lincoln's assassination and the trial of the many people who conspired to commit the assassination attempt on the president and several of his cabinet. The story focuses mainly on Mary Surratt, the owner of the boarding house where the plot was laid by Booth and his minions. It was a rollercoaster ride for me emotionally; Lincoln has long been one of my favorite people from history. I did not want to be sympathetic to Mrs. Surratt...but I was very much so in the end. The movie stands as a good example of mob mentality and how our government has the frequent history of acting before thinking objectively. I definitely gave thought to other incidences in our history that were not at all proud. Sadly, I look around today and see not.much.has.changed. |
amazon prime...
"at close range", sean penn and christoper walken
"serena", bradley cooper and jennifer Lawrence both good films... |
I had a double feature today. One movie for my action shoot 'em up style and one for my more mature side.
I didn't expect much in the way of acting. I'd seen the first one knew the cast, so I knew what to expect. Lots of explosions and angry glares and grunts as well as some good one liners. Hell yeah! Some of the tricks were really neat, so I was satisfied with that choice. Plus it's not every day that you get Stallone, Dolph, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, Mel Gibson (reprising his role as the bad guy)<---spoiler alert, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, some new blood, some old blood and the ever so sexy Jason Statham. I was happy to see a female kicking ass too. Good for Ronda Rousey. This is where I got my good acting gullet filled. It was well written, acted and directed. Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey had their hands in this one and it shows. It's a good, classy movie. I just wish I had smell-o-vision for the cooking scenes. |
currently watching 'The Matrix'. Oh, how I love these movies
currently waiting to see the next Hunger Games movie :) Love me some Jennifer Lawrence. |
I last saw Mockingjay, Part 1 of the Hunger Games series. I really enjoyed it, though loved the 3 books even more than the movies! There were a lot of inconsistencies between this third movie and the book, but it is all good!

I finally saw Social Network....
It's interesting to see how the Facebook came about...but I still don't understand how it's worth so much money... I also don't understand how they can assure that their system won't ever crash...I've never known it to be down, and even yahoo has done that in the past. I suppose, like baseball, I need a someone to sit and translate for me... :seeingstars: |

I guess I did not actually say what I thought either. Very well-done movie but the character Jake played is such a sociopath (zero conscience) it made me uncomfortable wondering what he would do next.
Movie well-done but not particularly enjoyable for me. Quote:

I enjoyed Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon together, pretty endearing and funny duo. Tugged at the ol'heart strings toward the end a lil. You can't beat Kathy Bates as an old school dyke! |
