For the sick, term. ill, poor, needy, homeless, hungry, and underemployed/unemployed. For all animals, pets, and our environment. For all world leaders to work together. For all of us here. I received a call on Tuesday morning from my best friend. She has been my best friend since kindergarten. She will undergo surgery in the morning for what her medical team is most certain a combination of ovarian AND colon cancer.
I can't begin to wrap my head around this news. She is 40 - to me, things like this don't happen and as selfish as it may be, I can't begin to fathom her not being a part of my life. She is a vital portion of so many of the indelible memories of my childhood and teenage years. Weddings, the birth of her son... the birth of my son when she and her husband not only beat me to the hospital, but sat vigil for the 17 hours it took for Bratboy to make his appearance. She made the call to me when my father had a massive coronary (her husband was a fire chief who heard the call with my folks address) and came to sit with us during his quintuple bypass and held me as I realized that my rock of a father was mortal. Now I am facing that she, too, is mortal. I am so grateful to know that her husband will be her rock through this. I am struggling with making a mad dash to Nashville to see her before tomorrow when I know that I could better help her in her recovery and subsequent treatment. All of this has come about in the space of 11 days - her GYN performed additional diagnostics during her annual visit. I can't stress enough how important it is for each of us to make and keep these appointments, no matter how uncomfortable or difficult it might be. If you haven't had an annual or are due for one, please make the call. I believe in the power of prayer and ask you all now to add her and her family to your list. I would like to light a candle in honor of a dear friend and wonderful human being. My friend Mark passed away on Tuesday from complications of esophageal cancer. He was only 44. I will love him and miss him always. He was one of the truly good, generous, and giving people on this planet. He was very active in the gay and leather community in NJ, and gave of himself and his time for countless causes. With his passing the world lost one of its lights. I will love him and miss him always. Rest in Peace Spanky...you left us much too soon and the world is a dimmer place without you in it. You lived your life marching to your own drummer and made your life what you wanted it to be. You are an inspiration and the light and love you left behind will shine in all of us that knew and loved you. :candle:

i burn incense for the country of japan, which suffered and seeks to recover from yet another earthquake. may the people of this country receive comfort, peace, sustenance, and all things needed! may those affected by radiation not suffer any long-term consequences! may their leaders act wisely and compassionately! may the people of the world respond to their need!

may our leaders in government resolve any impasses that they experience in their debates, put aside party partisanship, and act for the best of all the country! may this happen swiftly and with wisdom and compassion before parts of the country sorely affected by the consequences of a shutdown have to feel the effects! may our leaders remember those in country who need the programs that might be cut! may they keep in mind those who live in poverty and need and act on their behalf, rather than put the needs of corporations before people! namaste! |

I was just on a friend's FB wall that I've known since...well, we were best friends and crawling around in diapers together, so I've known her that long
Anyhow, her mom isn't doing well at all...my friend wrote; brain tumor has grown enough to compress the brain stem Asking to pull this circle of prayer we share and send some faith and hope out to my friend's mom and their family |
Today is the 31st anniversary of the death of my younger brother by suicide. My thoughts and prayers are with him, and that I hope & pray he is at peace now. He was so unhappy in this life. My candles burn brightly for all survivors of suicide. I so understand the pain and grief. :candle::candle::candle: :moonstars: |
