Already the light seemed changed this am
for my run...I count every foot strike...every
mile a blessing for which I'm grateful for...and
also remind myself that it has been my love of
this movement we call running, jogging, walking
...a moving love embrace...and that I love myself
for continuing to say "Yes!".

Desert hot run with light later...

I always feel that way too when I've worked out but didn't want to or feel up to it initially.

I was supposed to have a training session today but my trainer canceled so I stayed home and moved stuff around in my home, which is a different kind of workout.

nycfem 06-30-2018 06:12 PM

Welllll, I walked in the pride march. I'll count that as an hour due to starts and stops and such. It was like 8,000 steps. That was on June 24th.

I am finally done with school, so I have July and August to exercise, among other things. Today I went to the gym, and I felt so rusty. I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster. Then I did 30 minutes on the floor (weight lifting, stretching, yoga, leg weights).

I want to get my groove back. I saw Judith but ducked around a corner so she wouldn't see me. Introvert. Not in the mood for Republicans.

Gemme 07-01-2018 07:24 AM

I haven't been as good as I should be either.

I did make it back this morning, but mainly to work the damage out that I did to my back yesterday. I wrenched it lifting a piece of equipment into our truck for a customer. Next time, they can lift it on their own.

Thankfully, my back's better. Not 100%, but better.

Elliptical stats: 220 cal, 1.49 mi, 25:00 min

I spent some time stretching really good on the mat afterwards.

nycfem 07-05-2018 05:35 PM

I am in Las Vegas, arrived yesterday. This afternoon I used the hotel gym. I was the only woman there. GO ME! My routine was:

1 hour on the treadmill, 3 mph. 30 minutes weightlifting, abs, and stretching.

It was a functional gym, nothing special. But really, with gyms, that's all one needs.

I am watching "The staircase: Secrets and lies" on Netflix. It's a true crime series. They really try and draw it out, so I had to fast-forward through a way too long and repetitive forensics scene. But I'm still gonna continue watching.:eatinghersheybar:

Cool, tricky 6mi run this am on still wet sandy road,
more storming later today, so tomorrow's walk
will be fun 4mi

Back to longer 10 - 15 runs on Sundays, yes, I've
missed them. Stepping it up 2019 is around the
corner.

Made it to the gym before going to the art festival today!

Elliptical stats: 219 cal, 2.09 mi, 30:00 min

Then I walked for about 2.5 hours at the festival.

RockOn 07-07-2018 04:12 PM

Cut up tons of pallets to burn stump ... also, dug out deep around this huge freaking stump. I did not get up under the stump enough with my digging yet but getting close. It will burn a lot faster if I can put some 4x4 pieces up under it. The 4x4 chunks burn slow for a long time. I came in and changed clothes 4 times, even underwear and socks were drenched with sweat.

I don't know about calories but I bet I weigh 4 or 5 pounds less from this morning. Definitely a robust and lengthy workout. Made sure to constantly be drinking lots of ice water. The humidity is overwhelming!

Gemme 07-08-2018 07:27 AM

I dragged myself to the gym this morning after a rough night. My goal wasn't a heavy duty workout but to keep moving and make sure my joints stay flexible and 'lubed'.

Elliptical stats: 190 cal, 1.67 mi, 30:00 min. Different elliptical than yesterday.

When I got there, I was the 4th person to arrive. All females. At least two of the three were family. Very nice looking butches. Not sure if it was butch-butch or butch-femme but there were only two cars outside so someone came with someone or else walked a long way since there's no residences nearby.

1 hour on the treadmill...after 10 days off (I was sick)

Gemme 07-09-2018 05:51 AM

I'll be sweeping a lot today. Not my idea of a good workout but I can't be choosy.

cinnamongrrl 07-09-2018 09:10 AM

Kettle bell workout and yard work slash housework slash laundry. It counts! Those baskets of wet clothes are heavy and I have to carry them out in the yard.

nycfem 07-09-2018 09:21 PM

I did a second work-out in Las Vegas the day after I did the one I most recently posted about. This second one was on Friday, July 6th. I went on the treadmill again for an hour but did not have time to stretch after. After this work-out I felt horrible! My joints, especially my ankles, were a mess, like I'd been on a roller-coaster. So that means bad shock absorption. Luckily it went away after a day off.

Today back at home in NYC I did 40 minutes on the stairmaster and 20 minutes of floor exercising, weight lifting, and stretching. The stair master is heaven to me. I just hope they don't get rid of them- they only have 2 left. One opened up tonight, and I ran to it like my ass was on fire!

Gemme 07-10-2018 09:45 AM

I was supposed to get up and work out this morning but opted to sleep late instead. Sometimes, you have to know when to push forward and when to pull back.

Greco 07-10-2018 06:49 PM

stretch-i-n-g

So Sunday did my new mileage of
10mi...it was intense to say the least
with the stunning beauty of this place.

Anyway, what I wanted to share was
about something I don't usually share
and that is very important to my continuing
to run uninjured - for the most part, blisters
not included - and that is stretching.

I stretch from 30mins to 1hr depending
on the distance and the intensity of run,
or walk. On Sunday, I stretched for 5mins,
got home, showered in hot-cold water,
drank my green smoothie as I stretched
for an hour. Which activity is more meditative?
Well, for me, both...I do not like to sit to meditate
so I do it on a run, a walk, and during stretching.

Yesterday, I stretched only and had plenty of
green smoothie and H20...Today, I walked
with a buddy, not talkie, and we covered
3.5mi...good week so far.

nycfem 07-10-2018 08:16 PM

Today I did 30 minutes on the stair master. I did a pattern in two minute increments of Levels 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (3 repeats of it), followed by an extra four minutes at level 1 to cool down. it felt great.

Then I did 20 minutes of stretching and floor exercises. It feels amazing to stretch after an intense work-out. It is very meditative.

Having the summer off and getting to sleep in is very helpful for letting the body rejuvenate itself for the next work-out. I have such a hard time getting enough sleep during the school year. So the summer is luxurious to be able to stay up late (I'm a night owl) and sleep in (I'm not a morning person).

nycfem 07-11-2018 09:36 PM

I did 35 minutes on the stairmaster: 5,4,3,2,1 x 2 min. x 3 "sets", then cool down for six min. at 3,2,1,2,1,1 x 2 min. The 54321 is a fun routine, pretty rigorous.

Then I did 25 min. of weight lifting and stretching, and some core and ab exercises.

I ran into the same gym member I did yesterday in the locker room, Taylor. I may have mentioned her before. She's a petite house manager in her mid-thirties, very pretty, straight, and she has an edge to her. She works in a billionaire's big building that he lives in alone.

We originally met next to each other on stair masters, and she was immediately conversational at that time. When I told her I was married to a woman (in the context of an immediate personal conversation), she soon put her arm on mine to emphasize a point or highlight a laugh as we continued to talk, which I saw as a sign of, "I am not put off by you being a lesbian." Like a sweet liberal gesture. Also a little weird. Especially because we were still on stair masters.

So today we chatted about this and that. Then as she was about to leave, she did what we therapists call "a doorknob confession." She saves what's really been most on her mind for the very end, just as we are concluding. She told me that she had a falling out with another gym member, Ali. I don't know if I know Ali but I do know there a lot of crazy bitches in the locker room. She said that she and Ali had exchanged numbers as they became better friends but that Ali would text her like 15 times a day. She said it was annoying and that unless she was having sex with someone, she would not want to receive that many texts.

But that was just background, maybe to set me up not to like Ali. She said that when she and Ali would make a plan to do something that sometimes she (Taylor) would have to cancel because of work. She said that Ali would say, "I'm so sorry you have to work." And Taylor would say she didn't mind, and Ali would say, "But you don't sound genuine saying that." She said they had that exchange a few times, and it always annoyed Taylor.

Taylor said that Ali doesn't work and has a boyfriend who pays for everything for her. Taylor said she doesn't have a boyfriend or kids, and that her job is her life, that she's been on her own since she was 17, and she feels happy and grateful about her job. So Taylor confronted Ali about this, and how the exchange made her feel bad every time they had it. Ali became defensive, and Taylor asked if their friendship was over, and Ali said yes. Taylor was a bit concerned about still seeing Ali in the gym and also looking for validation from me. I validated.

Taylor I see as having a bit of a personality disorder. She both unnerves me and intrigues me. She's sort of interesting.

No Judith today.

nyc's gymxplotations always intrigues me, like watching the Discovery Channel.

And now, on the Serengeti....

My gym experiences aren't that interesting usually.

I had an appointment with my trainer so I warmed up on the elliptical.

Stats: 78 cal, .70 mi, 11:00 min

30 minutes of circuit training, accommodating my wimpy wrist. I injured my left wrist in a slip and fall 2-3 winters ago and it gets aggravated now and again. Usually in winter, due to repetitive movements. I think the way I get up off of the living room floor is playing into this right now.

Then, we went into his office and booked appointments through September. The owner of the gym and the other trainer came into the office and we all talked about different things and somehow the owner got me to agree to run with her in a race in September or October.

Not sure how that happened.

Then I popped back on the elliptical for my official cool down.

Stats: 90 cal, .80 mi, 13:00 min

I haven’t been going to the gym, but I have been gardening.

Because I had cataract surgery last year, I didn’t prune and trim as much as I usually do, and my perennials are running rampant.

It’s been very hot here, so I garden for a while, and then I run inside for a break.

In other years I’ve been spoiled, and when I got desperate, Pete jumped in to collect what I’ve weeded and snipped, but she’s working full time and studying for a major test.

I am lucky to have the time to garden and I am grateful that I have safe clean water to drink.

nycfem 07-12-2018 07:55 PM

I did 40 minutes on the stair master. I did 5-4-3-2-1 x 2min x 4 sets! It was easy today. Sometimes there are just days like that, where one can add on an extra set and not have any problems. Good feeling!

No Judith.

No Taylor.

There is a mother-daughter pair that was there who I see all the time. They look beautiful and rich but they are not snobby. They are so kind and friendly to me. It is always a pleasure to see them. I *want* to hate them but, alas, it's impossible :praying:

It sucked not to stretch but my mom is visiting from Ohio and had just arrived, so I simply did not have time! Tomorrow perhaps I will take her to my gym. That should be interesting.

cinnamongrrl 07-13-2018 06:08 AM

Gonna do a little kettle bell to wake my body up. I'm stiff and sore.today and have no real.reason for.it other than carrying a vacuum upstairs...and maybe wrangling a squirmy pit bull....

I am lucky to have the time to garden and I am grateful that I have safe clean water to drink.

I weeded for an hour before it started to get hot.

I took a break to do laundry, and then I gathered up the cuttings and weeds.

If I were truly responsible, I’d bring the garden trash to the transfer station.

nycfem 07-13-2018 09:40 PM

I did 30 minutes on the stair master, Levels 5-4-3-2-1 x 2 min x 3 sets (plus 3-2-1 cool down for six minutes). I think I'm almost done with "the Staircase" ( a true crime series) on Netflix which is sad because I've been so very into it!

Then I did 30 minutes of weight lifting, core exercises, and stretching.

My mom came with me to the gym. We ended up in the locker room with the mother and daughter that I was there with last night (the beautiful, rich, but super kind set). We watched the gorgeous mother blow-dry and style the gorgeous daughter's hair (in her mid-twenties). Since I gym-know them I said, "I brought my mommy from Ohio" and introduced her. They were very kind, and Max (the daughter) said, "That's so nice. I'm with my mother 24-8." The rest of the day my mom and I couldn't stop using the phrase 24-8. It became a little joke with us.

After hanging out in the locker room, I asked my mom what she would be doing in the gym. She said, "Walking around New York City is enough of a work-out. I'm going to go to the gym cafe to have a turkey sandwich and do the New York Times Crossword puzzle." And she did!

When I got home, my mom had headed to a movie, and I took a bath at home. I love the feeling of a bath after working out.

(I snipped and put in some emphasis)

I am not sure what 24-8 means, but I wonder seriously how a single woman in her mid-twenties could spend all that time with her mother...???

Haha, my husbutch thought that was strange too!

nycfem 07-14-2018 11:01 AM

Charley, at first I didn't get what 24-8 means either, but then realized it means even more than 24-7!

Like, I often use (to emphasize my commitment or belief in something): 110%. I think it's the same type of thing! Still funny!

nycfem 07-14-2018 08:39 PM

Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster (Levels 5,4,3,2,1 x 2 min x 3 sets, plus a 3,2,1 cool down for 6 minutes). I'm still watching "The Staircase" on Netflix, thank goodness.

Then I did 30 minutes of weights and floor exercises. Two gym song highlights: they played "I'm sorry, Ms. Jackson" yesterday and "When Doves Cry" today.

It was very hard to get started today because I'd recently gone out for a big dim sum meal with my family, so I was yawning and carb crashed. The stairmaster was extra hard to do but once done, I felt good and the floor workout was back to normal.

Tomorrow, since my mom is still in town from Ohio, there is a tentative plan to go to the gym with her and Dave and Jan (my brother and his husband). I'm so annoyed with the idea of using up 3 guest passes at once! I get one a year, and I hoard them! I have 9 right now. :praying:

3mi at the track...then weights alone - upper body

Session at gym today...threw me into memories
that while beautiful, loving, nonetheless made me
sad...it's been a strange week to say the least.

Today was my long run day, but decided to head
to the gym instead, run 3mi - I don't enjoy indoor
tracks prefer open spaces - then lifted weights and
focused so, that no one interrupted my sets - best
for everyone.

Tomorrow? Feel like more weights - lower body.

I had a nice evening gym workout. I'm still loving my stairmaster workout of levels 5-4-3-2-1 x 2 min. x 3 sets (30 minutes total), then the 3-2-1 cool down (six minutes). And still watching the Staircase on Netflix.

Then I did 30 minutes of floor exercises, weight lifting, and stretching. Fun fact: When I do my floor exercises, they ALWAYS include 50 five second pelvic tilts with my knees bent. They strengthen core, butt, and back, and they are easy and relaxing and meditative.

I am loving having the summer off and being able to get my exercise in :byebye:

Kätzchen 07-16-2018 11:17 AM

Yesterday I got in some walking (steps) and I had to rearrange some things at home, on my own, which took an lot of energy. I must have sweated off at least a few inches of body fat. It's an small wonder that my body did not lock up, after all that physical activity.

I probably walked for about two hours (cumulatively ). And the other things I had to do on my own probably lasted about three hours of time.

Today I plan to walk to the mail boxes, maybe go to the farmers market for fresh veggies, and go up and down the stairs a few times, too.

I am grateful for the ability to do small things to keep mobile and keep my body active.

Bèsame* 07-16-2018 12:43 PM

Looked at my bruise foot. Looked at that scale. Remembered I had ate the bun with my hamburger this weekend.

Put on those walking shoes! Was out early with the dog walking peeps, birds and cut grass. I ended up doing 1.7 miles in under 30 min. You gotta remember, I'm tall, I take big steps..lol

The rest of the day at work, will be boxing up bodies! (Actually body forms, lol) up and down the ladder.

Say good bye to hamburger bun! It's all in moderation, these days.

I did the same routine I did yesterday (30 min stairmaster, 30 min on the weight floor). I felt so peaceful afterwards. Only one more episode of the Staircase (and this last episode doesn't seem like it will be of much interest). Highly recommend the Staircase on netflix if you like a good true crime series!

May our exercise bring us peace.

Chancie 07-17-2018 04:51 AM

Yesterday I lugged bags of mulch around the garden. It was extremely hot, so I couldn’t spend much time outside, but my body feels great after an hour or two in the garden. The results are so immediate; my garden looks pretty and my body is working hard.

nycfem 07-17-2018 08:00 PM

I did the same routine I've been into lately (30 min on the stairmaster & 30 minutes on the weight floor). I must say it's a great routine. The 5,4,3,2,1 x 2 min x 3 sets is the perfect level of challenge. I finished watching the Staircase (true crime documentary on a very interesting case on Netflix). I was wrong that the last (12th) episode was not going to be awesome. It was!

I ran into Judith. She yelled out my name in the locker room so I spun around. She was wearing a towel. I feel that she might have had an agenda. I think she's always trying to get me to accompany her to these gym parties that they have, which I would never do! I would never go to a gym party ever! I just switched the subject, and we exchanged a few pleasantries.

I also ran into one of my regulars whose name I forget. He often forgets mine too. It's something like Joel. He calls me Jessica, and I don't correct him. We've known each other at the gym for years. He is a real goof. Today he told me that at his job as an x-ray technician he got in trouble for having a Playboy magazine in his desk. He said that it was from after 2016 and that since then there are no nudies in the magazine, just good articles. I was like okkkkayyyyy.

Tomorrow I'll have to see whether I can fit in the gym because I have a dentist appointment and a movie plan and a dinner plan. We shall see.
