We had a dusting of snow, and freezing rain on top of the snow....so it's very cold here. Now that winter solstice has come and gone, we will gain more daylight each day that goes by.....

*Anya* 12-26-2017 10:46 AM

It is going to be in the low to middle 70's, heading to upper 70's by the end of the week.

The fire fighters are still battling the Thomas fire.

Almost 274,000 acres burned so far and 90% contained. They have been fighting it since early December.

It is the largest wildfire in California history and there is zero rain expected.

homoe 12-26-2017 10:53 AM

We had a white Christmas with more than just a dusting of snow, I'd say at least two to three inches out here in the higher elevation.

Now they forecast temps to be in the low to mid 30's till Wednesday when they will rise into the 40's with rain!

I also noticed the sun is setting at 4:24 now compared to 4:19 on the solstice.

FireSignFemme 12-26-2017 01:22 PM

Snow! Snow! Glorious Snow! It's 28 degrees this morning with a high of 29 expected tomorrow so it's not going anyplace anytime soon. :)

Kobi 12-26-2017 02:39 PM

The cold is settling in for the next 10 days,. Temps expected in the teens/20's.
Potential for snow showers (wonder what that really means) several times during that period.

Used to like the cold weather. Now I am looking forward to a trip to Florida in a few weeks and Spring!

Gemme 12-26-2017 06:47 PM

I don't even bother with the actual temps. I only look at the wind chill number, because I spend a quarter to half the day outside so I need to know how many layers and how thick, etc. Looking at the figures for the next 10 days or so and I see a few days with negative signs in front of the numbers. No bueno.

DC got me a new fancy jacket for winter and I hate to dirty it up but I will be wearing it when I go back to work. I can guarantee that it will be salt covered in no time.

Esme nha Maire 12-27-2017 04:05 AM

Wow, it evidently snowed a second time here whilst I was poorly. Twice in December is almost unheard of in recent years! Didn't think the temperature had been low enough. It's melting though, and what's left on the pavements is thin slush, really, so I was able to get to the local shops for supplies OK.

girl_dee 12-27-2017 04:08 AM

Per Alexa it’s 33 degrees, High of 50. Warmer than yesterday.

Kätzchen 12-27-2017 05:00 AM

One of my Christmas gifts from my BFF was an green technology type heating blanket, so I'm fairly warm eight now, although it's terribly cold outside.

I came home after the holiday to see a few inches of snow and ice out on my patio deck. Really glad I spent the holiday with my BFF and her family. The gorge winds really factor in during any type of weather, so I agree with Gemme about wind chill factors.

Right now, it's 30* with fairly dense fog.

Kobi 12-27-2017 09:55 AM

It is 21, with a wind chill of 10.

Have so many layers on, Im not sure I can bend to get in the car. This will be interesting.

MsTinkerbelly 12-27-2017 10:27 AM

When I walked the dog this morning the wind chill was -12*.

Currently it is 5* wind chill -4*....the high expected is 10*

:praying:

Chad 12-27-2017 10:31 AM

Weather report

40 degrees and rainy in central Texas.

:cold:

BullDog 12-28-2017 03:17 PM

It is 66 degrees and sunny. It was nice to be out in the sun running errands.
The next few days will be up into the 70's. I am enjoying this while it lasts because it's supposed to get really cold on New Year's Eve. Fortunately, winter doesn't last that long here in SE New Mexico.

Gemme 12-29-2017 06:20 AM

It feels like -5 right now.

Brrrr.....

homoe 12-29-2017 11:25 AM

Rain and high 50's temps but starting at 6pm there is a high wind warning that goes into effect until 4 am Saturday morning! Hope we don't lose power!

I notice the sun is setting at 4:26 so we've already gained a few added minutes of daylight!

Clyde 12-29-2017 12:16 PM

Cold, with an expectation of cold, followed by cold and then cold. So yeah, cold.

EnchantedNightDweller 12-29-2017 12:29 PM

Heater on and socks instead of flip flops in Texas - although I did see teens in shorts at Walmart last night. lol

MsTinkerbelly 12-29-2017 01:16 PM

Currently 21* (feels like 15*)
Tomorrow it will be 11* with a low of -1*

It is cold!

Bootsandheels 12-29-2017 02:30 PM

Snowed in!

Well...I went home to MT for Christmas and there are now 2 winter storms that have kept me here 2 days passed my planned visit! Hopefully tomorrow will be better but the forecast is not so great so I may have to stay a 3rd day!

Kobi 12-29-2017 05:07 PM

Still abnormally cold but with the sun and decreased winds, it didnt feel too bad today.

Snowed overnight. Winter weather advisory in effect for Sat, Sun, and Monday.
Have 1 errand to run in the morning, then its hunker down time for 3 days.

Deborah* 12-31-2017 11:34 PM

Abormally cold. Tonight it's going to be about 10 degrees below freezing.

Time for hot tea, and hot broth, and actually everything hot to drink!

Weather report

23 degrees and overcast in central Texas.

:cold:

Kobi 01-01-2018 10:05 AM

It is 10 degrees with a wind chill of -1. Snow showers in the a.m. seems to becoming a daily thing.

Who is hogging the heat?

VintageFemme 01-01-2018 10:56 AM

It's 21° and with the wind chill, it feels like 16° the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. No snow though; bright sunny first day of the year. Bundling up and heading out to play!

And 23 F is equal to -5 C. Really cold, especially when considering that central Texas is typically 40 F/4.44 C. We're lucky in central Texas with our winter weather temperatures.. except this year!! Freakish cold weather.

Deborah

JDeere 01-01-2018 09:01 PM

I wish it was 32 F/zero C. here in Austin!

Here in Austin, it's been record-breaking cold. Awful!

I knew the forecast was for this record-breaking cold weather, and so I went shopping for groceries before the weather got bad.
The nice thing is I ran into Gene Simmons (of KISS band) and his lady friend when I was shopping for groceries. I figure he was in town for the holiday weekend.

Balmy, simply balmy.........we're at -16 actual temp here near Montreal.

Gemme 01-02-2018 03:56 AM

It's supposed to feel like zero by 11am this morning, just to slide back down the mercury. The weather reports for Thursday made me happier as it looks like we'll get the lighter end of the snow dump.

*crossing my fingers that that holds*

Spirit Dancer 01-02-2018 06:10 AM

22 degrees in Florida Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Kobi 01-02-2018 03:11 PM

22 in Florida? Oy.

Still in the teens here. Wind chill is above 0 tho.

Tomorrow will seem like a heat wave during the day with temps in the 30's.

Tomorrow night is a winter storm watch with snow, coastal flooding and high wind watches as well.

And then cuz it hasnt been enough fun thus far....the temps drop back into the single digits with wind chills in the minus double figures for Friday and Saturday. So, all will be turning into a skating rink.

Glad I had a new battery installed in the car 2 weeks ago. Finally got an appt to have an automatic starter installed......in 3 weeks. LOL. Nothing like a brutal cold spell to make for a brisk business increase.

Now Im just hoping the power doesnt go out during all this. Having electric heat is a pain.

Chad 01-02-2018 06:19 PM

Weather report

26 degrees and sleeting in central Texas.

Texans can't drive on ice we need a break. I had to drive on ice to get home tonight. Yucky! Wreaks everywhere.

Kobi 01-03-2018 06:53 AM

When I opened the weather program this am, it said it was 46 degrees! It had auto-defaulted to the weather in France again but it was nice to see!

Here in New England......it is 16 degrees and there is a blizzard warning from 1 am Thursday to 1 am Friday.

I'm thinking of trying to get a flight to France.

It was beautiful today! Sunny. Temps in the 30's. Felt rather balmy....until the sun went down.

The blizzard warning for this area has been cancelled. Winter storm warning still in effect. From what they are saying, it sounds like a typical, swift moving nor'easter for us. The end of the storm ushers in the brutal cold again for 3 more days.

I'm getting too old for this shit. LOL.

BullDog 01-03-2018 05:15 PM

The bitter cold has gone for now. It got down to 6 degrees one night, but now we are supposed to have 50s and 60s during the day and 20s and 30s at night here in SE New Mexico for the next 10 days. I can live with that!

I was talking to Shy and she said they were getting a bomb cyclone. I said, what the heck is that? A snowstorm hurricane. Yikes. Stay safe everyone on the East Coast!

Lucky duck!

I know you don't live too far away but we're not as lucky. At least a foot of snow, blizzard conditions, 50+ mph winds and 'bombgenesis' is being thrown around again.

The storm's lagging in the ocean. Never a good sign.

And I'll be out in it, shoveling and trying to win over Mother Nature (never works).

I, too, am too old for this shit.

On a happy note, it will be above zero.

There is always good news and bad news.

You are on the snow side. The good news is the foot or so will be light and fluffy. Normally, that would be easier to shovel (or use a leaf blower on as our snow removal guys do) except for the high winds blowing it all over the place. The temps, from what I saw, will be decent during the day but dropping in the evening, back to even more brutal cold that we have had thus far. The cold and the winds are expected to continue thru most of Sunday. Everything that falls is going to freeze solid until the temps moderate come Sunday night.

Raimondo was impressive when she talked about the state's readiness for this and her readiness to declare a state of emergency if needed. Safer to close stuff and order people off the roads than to deal with all the frozen snow/ice that will be out there.

Please be careful and safe out there.

I'm on the rain/snow line and far enough out, I think, to be mostly rain. If we do get some snow, it will be wet and heavy - not exactly what you want on trees and power lines when you are expecting wind gusts around 70. We too will be getting the return of the brutal cold tomorrow night. So everything here will be encased in ice if it is mostly rain. They are anticipating widespread power outages here and have warned power may not be able to be restored for several days due to the high winds. That will be a bummer. The electric company already did their warning phone call this evening. Havent heard from the towns emergency management yet.

The good news is, there is an opportunity for several days of snuggling, cuddling, and canoodling. :)

Kobi 01-04-2018 07:34 AM

It was eerily silent and calm when I woke up. That lasted for an hour.

Now the rain is flooding the roadways, and the winds are rattling the windows. I'm ignoring the stuff thumping on the roof. I am going to have to go retrieve the the stuff that broke free and thumped down the stairs tho.

Goods news is the temps are in the low 40's at the moment!

Gemme, I trust you are monitoring the reports and are aware something shifted in the track. The expected "light and fluffy" for your area is now "not so light and not so fluffy". Shoveling is going to be a chore. Please be careful out there.
