Gay Teacher Of The Year Fans LGBTQ Pride In Viral Photo With Donald Trump

Gay teacher Nikos Giannopoulos’ displayed his LGBTQ pride as he sported a rainbow pin and clutched a lacy fan in an official photo with President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump. And now the Rhode Island teacher of the year’s bold stand for LGBTQ rights has gotten global attention after the image went viral on Facebook.

Giannopoulos, who teaches 11th and 12th graders at Beacon Charter High School for the Arts in Woonsocket, visited the White House with other teacher of the year winners in April. He received the photo of his moment with Trump this week and immediately posted it to Facebook.

Though Trump has previously pledged to protect LGBTQ citizens, but members of the community have expressed concern that his administration is rolling back their civil rights in areas such as education.

Giannopoulos said he wore the pin “to represent my gratitude for the LGBTQ community that has taught me to be proud, bold, and empowered by my identity — even when circumstances make that difficult.” He brought the fan that day to “celebrate the joy and freedom of gender nonconformity.”

my husband took me outside and showed me how much work he has gotten done fixing up our trillium camper. His joy brought a smile to my face...and fear in my heart. It means I am going to HAVE to camp now. Oh lord...lol

I had it out with a friend today regarding this very picture, she said "why can't he just be Teacher of the Year, and not throw the gay in there."

My response?

Because some bullied child with flamboyant mannerisms might see that and realize that it does get better. Maybe it will result in one less child killing themselves.

She had nothing to say.

Getting emails from all my guys/firefighters who will be with me this week.... and knowing i will be with a few of them as i have dinner with the IAFF prez scaitberger and treasurer on tuesday. I dont talk about all my calls.... i work to improve lifes for all firefighters.

i will NEVER talk about my calls except the funny ones.... reserved for like folks

My career has seen alot of risk and loss.... to which i see folks about. My fallen.....partner and on shift folks are my loss and not for others sympathy.

folks always ask about my job..... i never tell the hard stuff.. only the funny stuff


it just doesnt seem right... as does those i know who saw stuff at war.


silence tells alot ....

i have seen more than i was prepared for and lost the same as i love my job....
i love it and dont want any sympathy for such as it is and has been a great career.

Offering to brew coffee for his first 6 a.m. shift working from home and his enthusiastic reply of "That would be FANTASTIC!" Then made the choice to not ride back for a seat on the train so I could stay home an extra hour and make him breakfast and enjoy some time in the morning instead ♡♡♡
