To all of you who have stepped in where others feared to tread...

To those of you who accepted the package deal...

To those of you who wanted to be the "father" part of a family and did so with your whole heart (or were inducted anyway)...

To all us single moms who had to be both mom and dad in our children's lives...

To all of you who chose to participate in the life of a child in the "other half" sense...

To those of you who are daddies to their little girls...or little bois...

To those of you who adopted the name and role of daddy, father, dad or step-dad, step-father or papi...

I wish you much love and happiness. I ask you to continue the love and support to your children and those who need you, and that YOU also receive that love and support, day after day, year after year that you need to keep going. That you are and would continue to be blessed with the love, respect and place you deserve in your children's (loved ones) eyes and lives...be they your own, your extended families, or someone you adopted along the way...

You are a rare breed, fathers....and I pray you will always be as tender yet strong as you need to be...God bless you all, father's, daddies and more...

Little Shug...(f)

Happy Father's Day to my grandfather. He passed away about ten years ago, but the influence he had on my life was immense.

Tu me manques tellement, pépère.

I still have stabs of loss around and on Father's Day. The simple truth is that I have never stopped missing my Dad after he died in 1983. His warm space of quiet and calm was wonderful nurturance for me.

I actually go Father's Day shopping.... just go to stores that carry things he would have liked and mentally pick out something for him. Then laugh, as he always just liked the new wool work socks just fine!

I miss you, Poppa.

LOL... my kid once told me that he always go through stuff on if he should send me a Mother's Day or Father's Day card... We decided on Queer Non-Traditionally Acquired Parent Day in-between! Hey, make your own music!

He taught me
to hunt
to fish
to play ball
to cuss
to fight
to believe in me
to stand up for what is right
to smoke
to play golf
to drink
to camp
to drive
to trust
to respect
to never lie
to be responsible
to be independent
to be patriotic
to quit doing many of the bad things also
Lately he has showed me he has accepted God, he has openly admitted his mistakes and he has been humbled not only by age but by knowing, admitting and understanding his mistakes and how they affected others.
He taught me that happy and anger are our 2 best emotions, the way we handle them is up to us.
He gave me his time, his money, his belt, his piece of mind.
Most of all he gave me his love.

I know I'm fortunate that he is still alive and hope I have him for many years to come. I love ya Daddy.

I have to say that I am humbled by this thread.

For my Pop, 1912-1999

I grew up feeling like an owl raised by chickens and you showed me you too were a owl.

You gave me the calm stability and displayed an alternative path to me and taught me that education was the key to escape.

The world I grew up through was hash and torturous in huge swaths and you helped install tools that I would be able to use later to make sense of it all.

I can, to this day, see your handwriting echoed in my own because you taught me how to write.

Of all the things I love at my core, good things I was able to salvage from my childhood, you gave them to me or taught them to me.

I miss you so much, I wish I could talk to you now and tell you about being accepted into a master's program, about my life in Texas, about training my dog and learning new techniques, about my students and my passion for teaching. I love you.

My children decided to take my ex to church then to lunch today...when hy came by to drop off the youngest you would though hy'd swallowed the sun! Hy was glowing and so happy...it was kinda sweet..bittersweet...but very nice...the girls had a great time and so did hy, and best of all, our 20 year old nephew was here too, from Chicago and he accoompanied them...they are all our children...still are, I should say...I was a little jealous that I wasn't included, but I was so happy that they'd done this together...we are not promised tomorrow...

To all the father's out there, to all who celebrated father's day, to all who remembered their father's today...I wish you much joy, love and happiness...we are blessed to have loved and been loved like that...amen?

God bless you all...

Little Shug,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul. The posts you wrote just brought me so much joy within.

I have joy from my own friends, furkids, and family of choice. I follow my faith, and hold on dearly to that. I know how some people are - like my own father. I sent him a card, and called. He refused to talk to me, and my sister told me that he got my card, and just threw it in the trash. He said it meant nothing. I forgive, and will keep trying to be a good son. It is his loss. I know that I have tried.

Love,
Andrew

Dual Roles for Mom's

Lady Pamela,

Thank you for reminding me of the single mother's who are both mother's and father's to their children. I have the most respect and admiration for those women. My hat is off to each and every one of those mother's. That is how family's stick together. You are so right about that!

Love,
Andrew
