Which term(s) do you prefer?
A woman, recently married, was happy to now be able to call the man in her life her husband rather than her spousal equivalent. Spousal equivalent is new to me. I am familiar with wife, husband, husbutch, partner, companion, significant other, boy(boi)friend, girlfriend etc. How do you refer to the person in your life and how do you prefer they refer to you? |

I refer to JO usually as my partner....girlfriend at my age just seems odd to me..i think she refers to be as the same but im sure she will answer for herself later. Honestly i have struggled over the yrs on what to call my significant other...nothing seemed appropriate to me.

Girlfriend sounds too young...and also too casual...and also like what I call my girlfriend Annie (who is my best friend, but different...) And sometimes....Scoote's my candy-coated mean ass, but that's just sometimes :cheesy: |
I usually use partner, just seems to work :)

Grant is my slave and I am his Master, so I guess you could say those are the labels/terms we use.
|
husband and wife
a couple of swells..... |
There is not a term I like
I say G/F a lot, but that does not quite cover it. Special friend and long time companion sounds so..... |
i have many different ways of addressing her...
from SO in biz dealings over to my partner or lover or my girl, or even maybe my bitch... and yeah, i fully understand the connotations behind each... different strokes and all that... |
My wife is my wife (ha!)... :bunchflowers:
She calls me her partner.... and husbutch in some arenas.... It all just depends on whom she is speaking with... and how much they really understand... |
I have referred to Jack as my husband or husbutch in the past depending on the context. I made a conscience choice to refer to her as my partner in all areas (with the segue into "honeypie" every now and then) a long while back. It works better for us.

some venues require me to call Her Master.
on the job i call Her Ms. around my folks i call Her Ms. She calls me slave and boy a lot. sometimes She calls me grant. sometimes i will whisper Her given name in Her ear. :mohawk: |

She's my wife. She's my lovely butch woman wife. We were married in Amsterdam last month - the paper work is being transferred to UK and Canada. I'm still totally honeymooned out!! probably will be for a long time!
She occasionally slips up and calls me her girl friend - no worries, I told her, I can still be your girlfriend as well as your wife... but your wife first! |
I say girlfriend or partner.
She calls me her partner. I don't think she uses the term boyfriend with others, but I know that is another label for me in her head. :2butch: |
It depended upon the situation. Some places we called each other husband/wife. Some places with people in the know Master/slave. Some places where they wouldn't allow us to check off husband/wife it was significant other or domestic partner. Sometimes I called her bitch/slut/girl/etcetc, sometimes she called me an evil bastard/fucker/mean ass/etcetc, lol, it just depends (note - bitch was meant in the most fondest of ways as did evil bastard, usually, chuckles).

Before my late husband transitioned and we were able to legally marry (which made us husband and wife), we called each other lifemates. I still like that term.
Blessings to all of you who are sticking it out together, no matter what youcall each other. Smooches, Keri |

Hmm... sometimes gf, sometimes boo, sometimes boi, sometimes babylove, sometimes Papi, sometimes significant other...just depends on the situation and who I'm speaking with. Only once have I ever called anyone wife. And I don't usually use the term partner when refering to anyone because for me personally it just sounds too...hmm...understated is the word I'm looking for I guess, too sanitized. It doesn't really elicit "emotions" to me. It just brings up visions of the financial world...lol
My dad is very cool with who I am and who I date, but he's not always confident in expressing terms related to such...lol When Pajara and I started dating my dad would always say things like "how's your friend" or "is your friend coming to visit" and he would always look kinda shy and bashful while saying it, and that absolutely tickled me. Then he got more confident to the point where he would say "your friend" in that eyebrow waggle *wink wink* kinda way which cracks me up. He's finally started calling her by her name, but we still use the *wink wink* version sometimes when we're talking about certain things. My mother (the closet perv) may be oblivious and/or in denial to things that go on in her daughter's relationship, but I get my pervy-ness from my dad so we're on the same page...LOL |
