I've always had an odd affinity for the smell of new shower curtain and pool liner plastic.
|
one from your corner of the world, puddin'
lemon-myrtle, or lemon-myrtle & eucalyptus combo! I remember smelling it for the first time and not being able to get enough of it. Incredible! |
The smells I don't like:
A cat-box that needs to be changed! The smell of pot. Its not a nice smell when you smell it on someone on the tube! Nail polish remover. Ketchup that has been sitting on a plate for hours! Coffee. Makes me gag these days! Wish I knew why. The smells I do like: Fresh cut grass. Fresh bread. I'm with Huge-Smile about the smell of new shower curtains. My new perfume. |
I love the smell of sawdust - childhood memory of being at my uncle's farm and a family friend coming over to build things out in the shed.
I love lots of smells, food especially - gardens. Flowers or trees as the breeze blows, etc. I process through my senses so it can be a really wonderful experience. |
Fresh homeade baked bread! Warm and buttery - cozy , inviting :)

The way certain oatmeal stout smells when I swallow it. I hate the way a dirty commercial kitchen smells. It is not a good smell. |
Have you ever read the book Perfume by Patrick Suskind? The lead character was a murderer with a very acute sense of smell. It gives some interesting descriptions of olfactory experiences.
I love the smell of sage and cedar and campfires and lilacs and saltwater...I'm very much emotionally tied to olfactory memories that wouldn't make sense so I won't even say. |

Likes - Smell of a storm coming in (reminds me of my Dad)
A new box of crayons Roses and Gardenia (Real not fabricated smell) Fresh baked bread Yeast blooming (cause it means yummyness is to follow) Dislikes - Lingering cigarette smoke (when it's fresh I don't mind, but when it's on furniture, clothe, people, etc because they are chronic smokers-not so much.) When The Boy farts in the truck then hops out quickly laughing and closes me in with it. I think I read/heard somewhere once that smell is the biggest memory trigger. I can believe that. |
Laundry just taken in from being out on the line on a summer day :)

I like the fragrance of the forest, after a season of rain - the deep earthy scent of evergreens and pine trees (cedar, sequoia, sugar pine, ponderosa).
I like the aroma of bread baking in the oven on a cold winter's day or the way cinnamon infuses the air as it bakes inside a batch of oatmeal cookies or the way apples, baked into pies or streusel, provides a calming affect. Much like herbs, such as: lavender, rosemary, thyme, basil (omg, I do love a fresh bouquet of basil) or the way fields of mint of alfalfa on a warm summers' day can trigger sweet memories of days gone by. I also love scented candles or esscential oils in musk, sandlewood, amber, jasmine (with Y'lang Y'lang) -- even oil of bergamot or eucalyptus or vanilla: scents that create an feeling of ambiance (welcoming and healing). |
