Southwestern Ontario, unite!

Because sometimes there is life after Toronto.

(I live in Sarnia. Hi.)

Wryly 08-29-2010 02:43 PM

After Toronto or outside of Toronto? :D

I now live in the Niagara Region.

The Niagara area is nice...well aside from Niagara Falls (the town, not the falls). A girl can only take so many wax museums!

I used to live in Toronto, but I moved to Sarnia for looooooove a few years ago. Still getting over the shock of living here v living there.

blue33 08-30-2010 05:40 AM

Kingston area here but alas I am not a Canadian but certainly have enjoyed my stay here for last 15 years......

musicman 08-30-2010 06:13 AM

hey Ontario

I'm from the Cornwall area. Nice to see a few Ontarian folks here.

Nice to meet you .

Kingston is cool. I haven't been in for-freaking-ever but there is (was?) a store there that I was obsessed with. Is Phase 2 (huge second hand clothing store) still there? I loved that place!

Hiya Musicman. I don't think I've ever been to Cornwall, but I know where it is.

I hope that more Ontario people start posting. :)

Hi there.

It'd be nice if the other SW Ontario people would come out of the woodwork. We could all do lunch or something.

New to site...

Femme in London, Ontario looking to connect with people in my area!

Maybe we can plan a get together for interested B/F folks that reside in the SW Ontario and Detroit area sometime in 2011?

I posted a shot of a few of us who met up last month. Good times and hope we can do it again sometime in the New Year!

I second that emotion! I also know of a couple of people from Ohio who I would like to get in on that. :)

yes, yes! forgot about Ohio! There really are a lot of communities in the area that wouldn't take to much travelling for folks to meet up.

:)

SaltyButch 01-15-2011 02:57 PM

Hello All,

I live in Port Credit and would love to get together with some SW Ontario folks, perhaps when the weather is more forgiving.

Hiya Salty, nice to meet you.

I used to work in Port Credit when I lived in Toronto. It's kinda neat there.

Hey everyone in the vicinity of SW Ontario--that includes Michigan and Ohio, people! (and all else!)

A bunch of us are heading out to the London, Ontario Lesbian Film Festival, April 15-17 (but I think the 16th, the Saturday would be best to meet up!).

I've been there before, and they have great films--Canadian and International--as well, there is a dance on the Saturday night: *Dukes of Drag and Women's Dance*.

If interested in meeting up with us, please PM Betenoire or myself and we can decide upon a time to meet outside the theatre etc.

Here is the festival website: http://www.llff.ca/index.html

Unfortunately, the line up for the actual films are not yet posted.

Come join us for some queer camaraderie!

:cheerleader:

betenoire 03-07-2011 06:52 PM

Thanks for posting this, HSIN. :)

So far:

HowSoonIsNow
betenoire (me!)
oneye (my lawfully wedded wedded person)

are going for sure.

And I -think- ABb is also coming with?

I know me and Nick will be there for the Saturday films. I would -like- to go to the dance and to see the drag kings, so I'm just going to go ahead and put my foot down and say we'll be there as well. Because I like to play at being the boss.

Chancie 03-07-2011 06:55 PM

Oh my god, I wish I could go. :magic carpet:

Soon 03-07-2011 07:14 PM

Good News!

I just called their host hotel: Delta Armouries in London and booked my reservation.

http://www.deltahotels.com/en/hotels...don-armouries/

I received the festival room rate of 89 dollars (this is a NICE hotel!) per night.

I had also joined (didn't remember that I did this!) and therefore receive FREE wireless access for the nights you stay if you join the Delta Privilege Club prior to booking. I don't know about anyone else, but free wireless is huge for me! So, if interested, you can book for a really great hotel and join the hotel club membership first before you book.

There is no code that you can input directly into the hotel website, so I would just call the hotel directly.

I just asked for the rate for the London Lesbian Film Festival and they have a block of rooms available for the really good rate of 89.00 (tax not included) for a sweet hotel.

This is really good considering I stayed recently at a highway hotel for more than that and this is a historic hotel in the heart of downtown London!

:)

(no, I am not affiliated with this festival!)

Wryly 03-07-2011 07:20 PM

Damn - I don't think I'll be able to make this. But it does sound like a lot of fun. I'll try to see what I can do.

Hey Salty! How are you doing? I love Port Credit - but it has been a while since I've done anything more than a drive along Lakeshore Road.

Oh Ms Chancie, I would like it if you could go too. :(

HSIN - I don't think that Team Sarnia will be staying overnight, unfortunately. :( I'd be all over that but I KNOW that particular battle is one that I won't be able to win. (However - that totally is a good price on that hotel.)

Sure you can make it!

If you bring a carload of people it'll cost less to travel -and- I'll be your bff.

C'mon, I used to drive from Toronto to London -all- the time just to go to a bar for a couple of hours and then go home.

(I forget where you are from though, Wryly. I'm bad like that.)

ETA - oh yeah, Niagara area. Duh. YOU CAN DO IT.

Wryly 03-07-2011 07:30 PM

Betenoire - I'll see if I can switch what I have planned that day (sporting event in Toronto) but I'm not sure if I will be able to. *sigh*
I don't have a problem with the drive - - I used to do Toronto to Windsor all the time.....when I lived in Toronto. Now I live near the Falls - the drive to London isn't bad at all.
But, like I said, I have something else scheduled already. If I can switch and make it to the festival then perhaps I'll get a hotel.

Seriously! My favourite positive stereotype about Canadians is that we are nice. I like to reinforce that one.

We'd let you in, too. Canada likes when new people move in!

But when you get here the government will be an asshole and refuse to let you work in your actual profession. We'll make it insanely hard for you to get certified at ____ here, so you will be stuck driving a taxi for the foreseeable future.

(I've never really understood that. I mean, if someone is (for example) a doctor it's easier for them to move to Canada - but then we don't let them BE a doctor once they get here.)

Well, you know. I hope that if I talk about how nice we are that people won't notice that I'm not personally nice.
