What did you GIVE today?

I got this idea from my own post in the "I wish" thread. I can't say that I give of myself every day. I can say that most days I at least give laughter to people. That in itself means a lot to me to be able to make people smile and laugh.

I'd like to think that someone will post in this thread daily, just so we can see that we are a giving group of people.

So share with us your story or sentiments
"What did you GIVE today"

I am making three coloring books for lil guys in the family. It has been a lot of work and I am happy to do it. It has been a three week long project filled with stories, cartoon characters and illustrations all done by hand. So not actually given as yet...... I give food to three stray cats everyday! And love to see them waiting for din din on my porch. I wish I could adopt them all but it is not possible.

I gave my parents my time today. I took my father to his radiation treatment. For my mother I did the laundry and cooked dinner. Time and love is all I have to give.

Soft*Silver 12-23-2010 05:48 PM

I gave bird seed and suet to my native birds. I used the fat from my cherry ham for the suet. It still had alot of the cherries in it so the birds got a special treat.

I gave cookies to my neighbors. They all looked at me like I was a crazy person, in a good kinda way. Is this what we have become? It was tradition to always send goodies to neighbors, out on the farm.

I gave a massage to my old dog, who with this cold cold weather, is having problems walking even with coated aspirin.

I gave myself a beauty treatment at home. I thought since others gave such pretty things to me, the least I can do is treat myself as well as others are!

no family.
A mini tree decorated, gown and slippers
bag o goodies. Smiles are free and love is grand.
Priceless are the memories we made:)

I gave Costco some money today. Organic gave Chevron some too.

We have given one another a hard time all day, but that's not unusual.

I gave him dinner and dessert. :)

We gave each other a good workout this morning.

I'm volunteering at the children's hospital ~ every day this week and next, as a lot of the college volunteers are out-of-town, so they asked me.

It's been so wonderful! I'll be there all day tomorrow and the children are so excited for all the visitors and presents!

little_ms_sunshyne 12-23-2010 10:12 PM

I gave books away this last weekend...
While in Barnes and Noble I overheard a lady asking where she could find a certain book and she also wanted to know the cost. The book she was asking for was one I knew I was going to take to the Goodwill along with several other books. As she went to walk by me I called her over and told her that I would gladly give her the book she was looking for along with several others that I was sure her teen daughter would enjoy. Her eyes got all misty and it made me want to cry. She said *really, you would just give me the book?* of course I said. We exchanged numbers and the next day we took the box of books to her sons job and left them with a smile. In all they ended up with over 300.00 dollars in books because we were all in the right place at the right time... She called me later to thank me again and tell me that I had made her and her sons day... Not only did I recycle my books but I know they have gone to a good home...

This might be appropriate here

The Golden Ladder of Giving
1. To give reluctantly, the gift of the hand, but not of the heart.
2. To give cheerfully, but not in proportion to need.
3. To give cheerfully and proportionately, but not until solicited.
4. To give cheerfully, proportionately, and unsolicited, but to put the gift
into the poor person's hand, thus creating shame.
5. To give in such a way that the distressed may know their benefactor,
without being known to him or her.
6. To know the objects of our bounty, but remain unknown to them.
7. To give so that the benefactor may not know those whom he has relieved,
and they shall not know him.
8. To prevent poverty by teaching a trade, setting a person up in business,
or in some other way preventing the need of charity.

today I gave shelter to feral cats by opening my garage door a little so they could climb under and find warmth. The garage they lived in next door to me was torn down when they tore down the abandoned house. Now they have a new shelter...

today I took my old plastic milk cans, cut an opening in the side and filled them with straw and wrapped straw around them using baling twine and hung them from my grape arbor and trellises....the birds will have a new place to find warmth and shelter...

tonight is the night it is said the animals speak to god...and tell him of how we have been to them. I look at how sweet my three animals are, asleep in the warmth and safety of my home. Without a doubt they will speak well of me...

tonight I pray for all the animals without such a home...

This is so lovely! I think they did awesome with the task at hand. I am very curious as to how the kids got their address.

More than that, Blade. Warmth is something many take for granted, until they don't have it. Especially in older folks, cold can get into the bones and just make you miserable. Kudos to you for being a good kid, being kind and giving of yourself.

Soft*Silver 12-24-2010 09:34 PM

this is lovely...where is this from?

The ground was covered in snow so I gave the birds and squirrels and rabbits food and put water out for them.

So far today...just refreshed the food and water for "the outdoor kitty." There's a very shy white cat that socializes with our Mabel, but won't let us touch him/her. Doesn't look or act totally like a feral cat...we think that, with all the foreclosed homes in our area, someone left it behind. It was a little thin, but has started to fill out and look better once we started putting food out beside the garage for it. :playingcat:

I gave tips to my niece on how to pick out a puppy in a litter. She had no idea that the puppy she was going to pick would be a destructive high maintenance alpha type dog when grown. She wanted a lower level of care pup, one who would get along with, not dominate her other dog. Hopefully now she will pick better.

justkim 12-28-2010 02:38 PM

I gave someone a hard time...
It was free and no one was harmed in the process of *giving* said hard time...
In the process of giving the aforementioned hard time I gave others the gift of laughter...
Two for one kinda day...

Sam 12-28-2010 04:05 PM

i gave a lasting impression

Sometimes gifts are disguised

I gave the gift of the truth and tough love.

It may have been somewhat painful for the recipient
to hear, however it was necessary and will hopefully
help to turn on the proverbial 'light bulb'.
